Re: Resources for Bible authorship and history for Sunday School
Hmm wide consensus in the documentary hypothesis collapsed at the end of the twentieth century. It's now mostly D with a late P, in persia crafting the rest with Genesis a separate late addition. Interesting. Lots of shake up in pentateuch theory.

Re: Higher Historical Criticism and Mormon Doctrine
Spong thinks the gospels are completely allegorical to fit in the Jewish liturgical year. His view of the Virgin Birth is that it is to symbolize that membership is open to all and no longer by tribe or even jewish heritage. In the context of his whole argument, which gospels have the virgin birth a...

Re: First Sunday Councils
Give your home teacher explicit instructions that you and your family are off limits for any discussion or targeting in any such meeting.
That's where I'm leaning right now. Probably still ineffective but at least you made your wishes known.

Re: Wikipedia
As a user written product, the apologists are more motivated to protect the church than it's critics are to tell the truth. The church also finances some apologists and similar groups like more good foundation If you look at the edit history you can see a lot of edit wars in the church related topic...

Re: Is Mormon Satan anachronistic?
From with inside Mormonism, Satan is consistent. But Mormonism makes certain unsupportable assumptions in order for that consistency to hold.
From an anthropological and historical view, Mormon Satan is inconsistent and anachronistic.

Re: Does Belief Require Literalism?
If you're pursuing life philosophy from fiction, that doesn't seem to be belief in the same category as the OP. Indeed fiction is meant to be used as a tool to generate interpretations according to Umberto Eco. This different than belief. Sort of like the separation between philosophy and religion. ...

Re: Does Belief Require Literalism?
It seems to believe in something, Odin, that you have to accept it as a reality to start off. That seems to require some literalness at least at it's core.

Re: Are you anti-free speech?
Free speech is about limiting government action against speechin public places. On private property, the owner has say in if you're allowed to speak in certain ways or not. A newspaper can't be censored by the government in the USA though there are limits for libel, incitement of violence and so on....

Re: What about the Bible?
The Bible at least has some empirical adequacy. World scholars can debate it's efficacy but how it came into being is a limited argument. It is verifiably ancient. How it came into being is has three main theories but the hard evidence is actually very limited. The oldest fragment is from Numbers a...

Re: What about the Bible?
To point out flaws in the Bible would be to point out the flaws in the Book of Mormon. As a generalization, The Book of Mormon reinforces every outlandish claim of the Bible. The Book of Mormon teaches a literal creation, a literal Adam and Eve, no death before the fall, a literal Global flood, a li...

A lot of the material im thinking of is older and no longer on the church site. This ensign talk had the same concepts though https://www.lds.org/ensign/1983/05/teaching-no-greater-call?lang=eng Look for his use of "on safe ground" and "President J. Re: New Priesthood format
Give it some time, you'll drop off the gossip radar simply because no one there will know you. It will happen faster if you're between the ages of Elders and High Priest because you aren't really in either group very deeply. The people in leadership simply don't know me and I don't know them so ther...

I know that. That's the risk of operating a public accommodation in an open society.
Certainly the owner can explain that issue and see if the customer would like to take the job elsewhere. But the owner doesn't have the right to refuse the job on the grounds of sin or offense.

I enjoyed it but there are parts that didn't work for me. Just quickly, Luv knowing where K was at the orphanage for no good reason, then not knowing when he goes to Vegas. Either she can know or she can't or they needed a much better bit of explaining. SPOILER there's no reason given to think that ...

I'm of mixed attitude on the burqa thing. I do agree that as far as a need to identify a person, a clear face picture and face exposure for comparison is important for our current toolset. You could have a person of the same gender do the identification in private if that were the key factor. Althou...
