Re: Growing Up

I think it's also important to recognize that this is not a one and done event. Your ideals will continue to evolve as you do. They're only as stable/stagnant as you yourself are. Think of it more as a process of refinement rather than a fixed unchangeable declaration.

Re: Does it really matter ?

It's the unfounded jump to meaning and meaning as deriving to real facts that I object to. That logic chain is beyond flawed. I agree with this dogbite! I agree with dogbite also as far as establishing external reality. But an NDE is a claim on external reality. I concur that a person can achieve p...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?

No, I'm not divorced. I watched people get divorced as part of a college class and i worked collections while in college. Very eye-opening. It's public session. Go watch divorces if you're thinking about it. People get hung up on punishing the ex rather than the divorce itself. As a collector, divor...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?

Figure out your debt. Once you divorce, your income changes in unforseen ways. While the divorce decree will say who is responsible for what debts, any debt you're signatory to can and will be collected from you regardless of what the decree says. One or both of you will likely face bankruptcy. Idea...

Re: Does it really matter ?

Lucidity and Alas are touching on my bigger point. What's going on in our heads is not a very reliable system of reality. We've all been tricked by our senses, Hearing and seeing things incorrectly. It's a highly lossy model running on weak inputs in a biological kludge of conscoiusness. We need ind...

Re: Does it really matter ?

Its indsinguishable from a Mormon Testimony. If I accept one, there is no empirical basis for rejecting the other, or any other claim. Even though they make contradictory claims.

Like i said, it's very much faith. Because there isn't any evidence it is so.

Re: The Bible Vs. Joseph Smith

This is actually the crux of my faith crisis. JS revealed scripture requires a high degree of Biblical literalism. And the Bible just doesn't support that intense kind of literalism. It breaks down all over the place.

Re: Does it really matter ?

I'm always surprised how they recognize god/jesus/angel. How would you know? How would they demonstrate it? What proof could there possibly be that an afterlife human could use to even hope to verify it? Wounds in the hands/feet? How would you verify the source/age? It's all so very much faith and a...

Re: Is forgiveness required?

I don't think forgiveness is required. I think letting go is beneficial in that it frees you from the weight of carrying the pain, opening up the brain space, dumping the thoughts occupying your mind. And for some, forgiveness is a path to that letting go. The wanting for a justice that isn't coming...

Re: New Apologetic Movie: Witnesses

The witnesses are certainly a problem for the Church, and not just the three, but also the eight.

We have no signed document even.

But they're pretty far down my list of problems. Seems an odd choice to focus on actually. I guess the rest of the problems are just so unaddressable.

Re: How to Handle Adding Children to the Picture

This is mostly a boundary issue in my opinion. While it's easy to find oneself worrying about family reaction, I think that this reduces to a misplacement of boundaries in the newly forming family. If you set the boundary that the mother and father are raising the children according to their standar...

Re: Forced Turning Point

It's too late for my first suggestion. Don't accept meetings where you don't know the agenda. This also means your wife can't consent to a meeting on your behalf as a couple without your prior consent. Just say no. Don't let them dig. Offer no details or explanations. Tell them it's of no ecclesiast...
