Re: Next biblical scholarship overview - the global flood and mormonism

It's a good article and I am trying to imagine an apologetic response that could rely on anything other than large amounts of faith. Thanks for creating this.

Re: How the Helmeth Hübener story was suppressed

The Church will do what it can to appear to be taking a stand without really doing so, offering poorly-defined general statements that could be interpreted to support either side, and generally being the wishy-washy non-force it always is for any cause that isn't discriminating against the LGBTQ+ c...

Re: How the Helmeth Hübener story was suppressed

One of my teenage daughters was ticked when she ran across this story. The only times that the LDS church has espoused unpopular political views it has lost and then engendered more animosity from the public at large. This includes polygamy, statehood issues, ERA opposition, Prop 8 opposition, and o...

Re: 6 months...

My dear, TBM wife has consistently wanted to do home church each week. For my own sanity, and for my children, I have presided over a weekly sacrament and brief "Come Follow Me" lesson every week since March. My goal has been to keep my semi-believing children engaged by pulling out something intere...

I know many have asked about the recent changes to the endowment announced by the First Presidency last month. Here are the modifications I can remember from taking my son through the temple for his mission this week:
Thanks for passing this along.

Re: Dad allegedly chokes son for refusing to serve a mission

I don't want to take away from the sheer family tragedy going on here. It's a bad situation. My terrible thought is that it sounds like an episode of "Seinfeld" or "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", but with LDS characters. As long as I'm already going to Hell for pride and a lack of compassion in...

Re: Temple changes

How will this affect initiatories? The space used is super confined and having 3 people in there makes it crowded. I wonder if you really need the different stages to go into each cubicle. You could just have one big space now. I would love to hear about the discussions in March and April planning ...

Re: Working on some biblical scholarship overviews and did a Tower of Babel one - looking for feedback

That's a good article. My favorite family apologist has stated a few beliefs he has about The Tower of Babel which were apparently gleaned when taking BYU classes from an elderly Hugh Nibley in the 1990s. His contention is that the Tower was also in place to for the wicked to survive another Biblica...

Re: Weird discrepency

According to facebook, if you're below a certain age they emailed you about same-sex attraction being a struggle and if you were over a certain age, they used aging instead. Apparently people stop having same-sex attraction at a certain age. Who knew? I wonder which version of this message that Tom...

I have heard rumor from a bishopric acquaintance that in the new version only the witness couple receive the tokens. I wonder if anything changes at the veil.
Honestly, that sounds like a boring, common sense change that would surprise virtually no one. This sounds likely

Re: Tests for Mormonism

When I was a child, there was a Hispanic family in my ward. The mother was named Rachel and was good friends with my mother. Rachel made enchiladas that my mother loved. But my mother was always trying to politely ask Rachel to tone down the chili in these dishes. My mother openly admitted that she ...

Re: Usefulness of Prophets, Seers, and Revelators

If the Mormons can do eternal ordinances by proxy, surely they can do sacrament by YouTube? Other faiths have allowed the sacrament over Zoom or YouTube Live. Many other conservative faiths have simply not done the sacrament for their parishioners. A lot of populist opposition to covid policies has...

I have not been to the temple yet. There simply are very few open for anyone with a valid temple recommend to check out. My father is a temple recorder and he has not seen details on the new changes either. I asked him about it and he could not tell me any details because he had honestly not seen th...

I think he should expand his brand. Young/Dumb would also be an appropriate banner for his apologetics. I thought your comment was some kind of silly joke, but then I looked at the news story and did a double-take when it was clear that Young/Dumb is the actual name of the brand. I suppose I should...

All I want is simple ability to read, think, and come to my own spiritual or intellectual conclusions. Certainly I like the members of my family and more than a few of you fine forum members. But I don't need much else.

But now you've piqued my curiosity. If this is too personal, I totally get you not wanting to share more. If it's not, how on earth do you make it work to use any of my commentary in your fam? Are they already questioning? Are you all out emotionally/spiritually and this helps validate? Are you jus...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 32

I wanted to acknowledge how much I appreciate the work that annotatedbom puts into these presentations each week. My family is doing home church and I try to use each Come Follow Me commentary to move the direction a bit away from the Orthodox LDS view. The CFM lesson manual is really simplistic and...
