Re: Brother Jake is back

I love BJ videos! You will have to find a new source of these videos because BJ announced that this is the last BJ video he is producing. I suspect that he is not as interested in BJ activity nearly as much you might be. He appears to be moving on with new hobbies in his life. You could produ...

Happy 3rd Birthday NOM 2.0! In celebration please share a memorable post that resonated with you. Sort of like testimony meeting. PS. Did Captain S pay the bill to keep this slum rental going another 3 years? The Captain only paid for one additional year, but it's for a surprisingly good reason. Th...

Re: Staying Positive While Being a Non-Believer

This is a very relevant problem to me. I still attend as a non-believer and I have not made my skepticism widely known. I simply find that certain parts of the church do allow me to stay positive. Basic Sermon on the Mount teachings from Jesus are great. Service, kindness, prayer, scripture reading,...

This is pretty much the same policy as at my work. It is hide, run away, barricade yourself, fight like hell if you need to.
The "fight like hell if you need to" is notably in last place and the average HR lawyer does not want a concealed carry person to be the first line of defense.

Re: Calling to Repentance

The other major disconnect is that we obviously cannot call LDS leaders to repentance. There is no feedback mechanism back to Oaks or Nelson for anything they say. There is no base level expectation on what we should expect from someone who calls themself a prophet. Even apologists like Patrick Maso...

Re: Richard Dutcher's Films Are on Amazon's Prime Video

"God's Army" was produced back when Dutcher was still a believer. I have never seen it, but I recall that believers largely liked it. I probably should watch it and see how my heathen eyes see it.

Re: MormoCon 10.19 Schedule

I don't have the ability to watch it as of last conference. Done. Can't do it. But still curious about anything interesting that might be dropped/announced. The institutional LDS church has an astonishingly large and organized opposition. If I were to spend this coming weekend watching nothing from...

Re: If you're bored/interested: My First Vision section of a project I'm working on...

This is a great project that is going to be increasingly relevant. Next year is the two hundred year anniversary of the First Vision and I eagerly await whatever the church attempts to say about it. April 2020 General Conference should be talking all about this, but I have the feeling that it will b...

I have not read anything by D. T. Suzuki. I will add this author to my projected reading list. I have read the Tao Te Ching and I'm still processing it. I am a regular listener to the Secular Buddhism podcast and have found it very enlightening. I could not make any claim that I fully understand Bud...

My one-liner is, "I don't think you're prepared to have this conversation with me..."
That's a good one. It actually is respectful of believers while simultaneously throwing down the gauntlet. Any believer that picks it up has to thoroughly understand what they are asking for.

The PISS youth program. Physical Intellectual Social Spiritual I'm confident that some clever teenage boy would have figured it out sooner or later. The whole thing feels like she is only playing the audio to check it off her list and doesn't actually care about the message they are trying to get to her (us) assimilate. And yet it is, apparently, so important that we hear it! A lot of LDS culture revolves around passive-aggressive methods to de...

... Joseph was sealed to 35 women and none of them left any criticism of him, even the seven that left the Church. Personally, I think they would be very displeased with accusations as those published in this list. How many of Warren Jeff's wives criticized him? Does that make him right? What the h...

It would be very interesting to get Gong into a Mormon Stories interview and get a solid view of his beli...

Wow that "faith matters" site is quite a goldmine. I especially enjoy the unsensored comments on many of the articles. Right. I read a few of the comments and it seems like the unbelievers are more than represented among the readers of this website. Believers would be challenged by it and unbelieve...

Re: Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

So the way I see it, I have two choices: 1. Tell her I will try harder to lead the family in those things, take her to the temple, etc. OR 2. Tell her that me living a double-life obviously isn't working, and it is time I act on my beliefs and stop participating in church. You don't have two choice...
