Re: Grant Palmer's non-believing GA revealed

I keep having this dream that Richard Bushmanrhc leaves in his will for an official statement to be read where he explains that the church is a fraud and he didn’t say this earlier because it would have affected his book sales. If Bushman was truly a non-believer, he is hiding it really well. All I...

Re: DW Back To Church

My stake is starting up at the end of July with the usual restrictions. I am interested in how the faithful will react in my ward. I'm looking at this as an anthropological experiment.

Re: An integrity crisis?

Is my friend awarded more integrity points for firmly stating what he believes and wants from life? Or does he lose integrity points for giving up on his family? How do my choices add up - being as honest as I dare with my wife and more-or-less lying to my friends? In the end the points may not mat...

Re: LDS Church proposes new community near future Tooele Valley Temple

Let me offer a tiny, tiny defense of the LDS church in this regard. In short, I can't see how anything else might reasonably happen. The believers in the area would love to have a home in the temple neighborhood for either the blessings or virtue signalling, depending on your attitude. My father is ...

Not exactly the nightmare I was hoping for. This would creep out anyone, regardless of religious upbringing.

Re: What’s the future of anti-Mormonism look like?

My guess is that the LDS church will need to demonstrate some compelling reasons to be Mormon here in mortality. Exaltation and eternal life are simply too distant when you are dealing with mortal challenges. The church has really ticked off the rising generation with its stand against LGBT people. ...

Re: RFM and Evangelicals. Out of the pan and into the fire?

I do not know what draws Calvinists into their belief system. I'm certainly partial to Christianity and would happily declare myself a non-denominational Christian. The Calvinists simply seem eager to tick off virtually everyone in a way that even Mormons don't. LDS doctrine is a bit condescending b...

I haven't plucked up the courage to ask my father, what he thinks will happen to me when I resign from the church. He's hardcore TBM, does he think I am getting chucked into outer darkness as an apostate? or just demoted to TK Smoothie land? On a recent episode of the Sunstone Podcast , Joanna Broo...

Yes this, my statement reflects the aspersions leveled at me from father and father in law. It may be an awkward fathers day. :? Some philosopher that I truly do not remember said that the problem with metaphysics is that there is no laboratory for testing those statements. It's like when a family ...

Re: Request: short list of JS paper juiciest bits?

One unintentionally funny place to look is the 1832 First Vision . Certainly the 1832 version is its own can of worms. But look at the edges of the pages near the spine of the book. You can see a long, vertical line on those pages which is where they were carefully taped back in after Joseph Fieldin...

Oh and I guess there is a special place in Hell for me because I have "corrupted" my family.
There's also a special place in Heaven for helping your family come to a better understanding of reality. The only people condemning you to Hell are those who are adamantly certain of their conclusions.

Re: lol Stake President calling all families to tell them to stay inside today due to riots... in the suburbs

Why didn't Fox 13 tell Brother McCormick to put some clothes on before they interviewed him? It seems like there is a certain age range of Boomers and older folks that seems to like hanging out in their temple garments. It's always a little bit creepy when my father-in-law does this. Even in my mos...

Re: What will change?

There is a paradox in all of this. Most of the time, things don't change very much. But then something big happens and nobody saw it coming. But after it has occurred, the signs were there all along. This is the problem with revolutions and big changes, because signs for change may exist all around,...

Hagoth, that picture you posted has masks on all family members. As a result, it almost looks like Michelle Obama and Paul Ryan are accompanying their mixed-race children to church in an obviously stage photograph. It will probably be a generation or two before the LDS church can truly rectify itsel...

It also makes it a lot easier to record. Now you can covertly get video of both parties for future needs. Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but what is the possibility that some interviews are being recorded and sent to the SCMC for further review? I just can't imagine how adopting East German Stasi attrib...

Re: Asking for a friend: What are the resources for women married to a TBM? Podcasts, friendships, groups, etc.

There is a Facebook group called "Another Testament of Marriage" . It's for the faithful side of mixed-faith marriages. I tried to join it, but I was politely rejected as the apostate side of a mixed faith marriage. I did not want to be quite as duplicitous as I am with my temple recommend. The "Upl...
