Re: TBM's and LGT

Not to make an assumption here, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but most of us feel that believing that the BofM is true is a ridiculous approach. First of all, it's been edited a gazillion times. The LDS apologists ignore items that are so far fetched, only an unlearned person person would bel...

Re: Dear Spouseman love your mother

Are you going to respond with a recommendation to read "Letter to My Wife", or will you simply ignore this? While they may be no limit to parental love, there are increasing limits to parental authority. MY suggested response doesn't fit the community standards of this forum to share. Based on this...

Re: Dreams equal visions?

I think the fine line between dreams and visions is a concern, but i'm not sure how to address it. This is a weird problem that the church truly has because revelation, manifestations, dreams, visions, and inspiration have no defined distinction between each mode of divine communication. The instit...

Inerrancy among Church Employees about Church Materials

Inerrancy among Church Employees about Church Materials This article was initiated by the recent old school views of race in the printed "Come Follow Me". The first paragraph outlines a deep problem: I recently had a (now-deleted) conversation about the “printing error” in the 2020 Book of Mormon m...

Re: What are you reading right now?

Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham is the next book on my agenda. A friend recommended it after he had watched the Chernobyl miniseries. While the series was great, it concentrated on the failures in the thinking of the participants and some facts were change in support of the narrative. Thi...

My inlaws might donate money to these guys non-ironically. Please do not tell the about it since I might get fervently asked to also donate. I would rather blow my money on sketchy penny stocks than donate to these guys.

Re: Ministering, YM, EQ, and the Bishopric

The new program just barely started. We had the last Eagle Board of Review in our ward recently and bishops church-wide are still figuring out how they will move forward. The former scoutmaster is still an adviser in YM and he is taking the YM on a solid hike soon. I would like to see such activitie...

Re: Saved as we fake it !

Mackman, I'll gladly buy you a drink at the Judgement Bar. Since I no longer pay tithing, I can afford it. I am heavily involved in faking it. I am an undercover unbeliever and, therefore, an inveterate liar. I'm happy with claiming basic Christianity and certainly the teachings of Jesus. I have rea...

Re: If Joseph Smith got it right, then who got it wrong?

The "Race and the Priesthood" issue is particularly thorny. Because if Joseph got it "right", then Brigham Young through Harold Lee definitely got it wrong. Spencer Kimball got it "right", but the explanations still all seem very wrong.

I saw an interesting theory on reddit. The church found the error in the printed manuals but still sent them out. Then it changed the online manual. This was the older members, who are more likely to use the printed manual, get to see the same doctrine they have always known. The younger members, w...

Re: Tragedy and the Tribe

In the past decade, my ward has had three teenagers pass away in tragic circumstances. Two of the families are sitting in front of me in sacrament meeting right now. Those were tough church meetings after their deaths. It's really hard to know what to say in those citcumstances.

Re: Romney and Trump's Tirades

If Mitt Romney had been chosen for Secretary of State when he was interviewing for that job, how do you think he would have handled Trump's constant anger tirades with his staff and cabinet? High turnover is so common in the Trump administration, I think it is virtually by design, not as a bug. I t...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Week 4

I grew up in northern Arizona and know a bunch of "Lamanite" Mormons. I Had a seminary teacher that claimed we should call LDS Native Americans "Nephites" since they had "returned" to the gospel. The most faithful of them really like their Book of Mormon heritage as the faithful would describe. They...

Re: I’m Catholic now.

What is the appeal of Roman Catholicism over the Orthodox faiths? I'm not saying you are wrong, I have done a lot or reading of Christian history and the tension between these faith groups since 1054 is complicated. Was there any interest in other high church faiths?

Re: Changes For Temple Ceremonial Clothing Announced

https://i.imgur.com/YBx2ity.jpg The temple clothing site has not updated the pictures yet and this is what is displayed for the hat. I assume that it will be just this exciting when it comes out. It's all gray, faceless minions modelling the temple outfits and I'm sure that this temple symbolism is...

Re: Changes For Temple Ceremonial Clothing Announced

The website appears to be down at https://store.churchofjesuschrist.org/usa/en, probably based on a stampede to get the new outfits. I have a niece going to the temple for the first time tomorrow and I wonder what she will be getting. I still have a current temple recommend for increasingly hilariou...

Re: New LDS video on temple clothes and garments

I suppose I will watch this later today. I anticipate that the various true believers on my Facebook feed will gladly trumpet how wonderful this is and how it's "not weird at all". This belies how these people would have never spoken publicly about temple outfits before the release of this video. Th...

Re: Strange things in the Bible

You can talk about how Satan is a really different character depending on where he shows up in the Bible. The book of Job shows him making a friendly bar bet with God. Genesis has Satan goofing up the Creation project, but he does not look entirely malicious. Satan is distinctly the bad guy in the N...

Re: Why belief in Satan is comforting

Satan is philosophical scapegoat when explaining the Problem of Evil and Suffering. We live in a Fallen World and it's Satan's fault as the God of This World. This is a position held by many Christians.
