Re: A New Years plan !

Hello Nomies : I have thought up a new plan to continue in my apostate ways . Its a plan anyway but Im sure it is not new. I am going to church tie less in blue jeans and golf shirt. This plan will keep me from saying any prayers , passing sacrament, any talks and showing my true apostate self with...

Re: Religious persecution! Would Oaks step up for my religion?

Religious Freedom Issue Moves Church to File Brief in Court Case This is from the website of the LDS church from May 1984, the very month that Oaks joined the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It has a great headline that fits with the interests of Dallin Oaks. This is from the article (emphasis added...

Re: New RFM Podcast--Arguing Against the Evidence

I loved the podcast, but it's yet another issue that my believing family will never dig into and understand the depths of silliness and underhanded rhetoric employed by JFS. This has become more acute in the past year with my devout in-laws on a senior mission in Nauvoo. Their group emails to family...

Re: Gems from open-mic Sunday

I'm vaguely aware that there are several people in our ward that are experiencing/have experienced a "faith crisis". Sounds like the bishopric is well aware of it and trying to address it. Good luck! I'm a bit envious of people who know that a faith transition is underway in their ward. The few in ...

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

I wonder if the brethren ever feel like they are loosing control. Where once they could issue edicts from on high with little or no pushback, now they get pushback on every questionable move they make. I think that LDS leadership has been relying on the scriptural stories of doubters and apostates ...

Basically this young adult is catatonic, nonresponsive. Hospital says its psychological, no medical cause.
Has this been evaluated at a non-IHC hospital?

Re: Bill Nye is a prophet.

Bill Nye got criticized for debating Ken Hamm because it actually encouraged more people to donate money to Hamm, but I think he did a great job, and the donations were probably a reaction of fear from people who didn't actually listen to the debate, or at least did not listen to both sides of it. ...

Re: The challenges of attending church

So I go for my wife and my son who enjoy it but it's getting kind of old. For those who feel like they have to attend, how do you cope? I wish I had a better answer for you. The imbalance is that the believers in your life generally have no interest in balancing out church attendance with "somethin...

Re: The Actual Power of the Imagination For Seeing Reality

Thanks for an interesting read. I admit to being partial to Kip Thorne because he was raised LDS and casually discarded it as he worked through his education. Dr. Thorne also was a long time collaborator with Stephen Hawking.

t has become important enough for me to choose and grow a pair like my mom told me before she died two years ago. My wife has pushed me over the edge 41 years married and I am taking charge !!! . When I first saw the topic title, I first registered it as "Going to grow a tapir " which would have be...

Re: Onslaught of Church ads on internet

The ones that really weird me out are the ones from Book of Mormon Central. They seem more "apologist" centered rather than simply "join our church" centered. I have not seen any in a few weeks, but they were around on a couple of news sites in early October. The #LightTheWorld campaign starts now a...

Re: Mission rules are now just suggestions.

Let the P Day festivities begin. The P-Day festivities will end in different ways in each mission. Some will end after the mission president says, "no more bungie jumping". Some missionaries will be told that it is still against the rules to go swimming. Some hardline missions will seem like, "Fun ...

I'm really glad that all of the difficult problems in our society and legal system have been solved so that judges in a conservative state can apply their wisdom to people being naked in their own home, in a utilitarian, non-sexual way.

Yeah, but the entire internet predicted Epstiens demise tho.
Absolutely. It was the least surprising event of the year once he was in prison. No one with the power to "see the future" mentioned it.

Re: Prophets vs. Fortune Tellers

I had not thought about fortune tellers having a faith crisis. That is an interesting twist. It is enlightening, yet not surprising that health, love, work, and family are what draw people to psychics. One of my favorite podcasts is the Skeptic's Guide to the Universe. Their first show of the year a...

Re: Also applies to religious hierarchy

Hagoth, that's a great quote from Brother Paine. It's funny that the LDS church quietly does acknowledge this because their is long understood cultural thread of men who feel lost after they are released from a leadership position. There is the relief of not having responsibility, but the honor and ...

Re: Speaking out about accepting callings

This topic was particularly timely because I just turned down my first calling. The Gilbert, AZ temple called me and asked if I would be a temple worker. This is a clear sign that my role as "undercover unbeliever" has been, perhaps, far too successful. We will see what happens when this message get...
