Re: FairMormon's "Most of"

It's funny to listen to FairMormon on several levels. First, I can only imagine the agony of trying to remove "Mormon" from their name. I'm sure that the rebranding will be like watching Dan Peterson and Kerry Muhlestein run a three legged race. It's additionally amusing to see how apologists say th...

Re: The exmo selfie train!

It's an amazing phenomena watching the selfie brigade when it shows up. It just kind of "starts" without warning and suddenly a whole new batch of pictures comes up. I have two thoughts about the season of selfies. First is that we are probably seeing the ones who are enjoying the "blessings" of apo...

Re: Salt Lake as Luxor

Don't give the institutional church any ideas. A full theme park for Mormonism does not sound completely out of character for the LDS church. The Potemkin Village of Nauvoo is crazy enough without getting a more elaborate homage to LDS authority and personality.

Re: Faith Crisis Contagion

How old is he? My parents are in their early 70’s and I don’t think they could mentally survive a faith crisis. At this point they need Mormonism until they die. My father is in this position and my mother passed away two years ago. Working in the temple is his social support system where he has so...

Re: History Question

Probably the closest thing to what you're seeking would be the disfellowshipping and excommunication of two apostles when plural marriage was revoked. Can't immediately remember their names but this should get you started if you feel inclined to research it. John W. Taylor and Matthias Cowley are w...

Re: Bad movie night is the best night

I added Mazes and Monsters, which looks amazing. The most amazing thing about it might be that I've never heard of it, because it's right up our alley... I watched Mazes and Monsters when I was in high school and I was deeply annoyed that this movie is far more about mental illness than actually fi...

Re: If you need a good laugh today!

Question: did they used to have some sort of “urim and thummin” (sp) contraption on the table at this site? And did they recently replace it with a hat (w/o Russ’ permission ) Also, honest question, is there a rock in the hat? I truly do not know uf anything is in that hat. I'm guessing th...

I can't believe Strange Brew has not been mentioned yet in a bad movie thread.
I watched Strange Brew as part of my cultural education before I went on my mission to Canada.

Re: Patriarch talk

Wait, you can download relatives' blessings? How do you do that? Patriarchal Blessing Request It takes a few weeks, but I retrieved the blessings of a couple of ancestors, including my mother after she passed. I have not tried to download the blessing of any person who was not a relative, but there...

Re: Church’s truth claims can be tested

I see priesthood blessings of healing as another test of LDS faith and doctrine. The church would not want to statistically test the efficacy of priesthood blessings because they simply don't work that way.

Re: Guns in Heaven!

I'm noticing a lack of discussion about what those "liberals" in the Terrestrial kingdom will be doing on this issue. I imagine they will protest the Celestial gun owners with signs like "Arms Are Made For Priesthood Blessings" and "Make New Worlds, Not New Wars". They will also insist on some kind ...

Re: Nelson visit

I had the privilege to be in attendance. Here's my report. I am one of the possibly more privileged who simply went to their local ward building instead of going to Mormon-palooza and see the prophet in person. My dear wife went and she also did not get home until 9:30, but did not avail herself of...

Re: Greatest Film Series Of All Time Gets Long Anticipated Sequel

I am truly looking forward to this movie. It has a lot of possibility since the actors have visibly aged in the past 30 years. An honest reflection on maturity and Rock and Roll could still have plenty of comedy for them.

Re: Apocalypse vitamins and the return of FARMS

I listened to the first half of Elder Holland's Maxwell Institute talk on my commute today. For those who have heard it, did you also get the message that Holland is suggesting that Pres. Nelson's "eat your vitamins" comment is an apocalyptic warning? It's queued up, but I have too many other podca...

Sigh. This is giving me fits right now, can't sleep. Sunday is our day with DS and DDIL, it was supposed to be a birthday thing, but now its been usurped by the Nelson fireside. Re: The gospel for dummies

Some Sunday after Sacrament meeting, in the not too distant future, your Bishop is going to wander out to his car to get some papers he had forgot to bring in. He will look up and see that half the cars in the parking lot have formed a tightly knit circle. Car trunks are open, pleasant (a mixture o...

Changes post 1990 are well documented and known. However the transition from a literal bathing and full bodied anointing in a large bath to what it was pre 1990 changes isn’t as well known. I’m intrigued, does anyone know when it changed to a hose in a tiled small partitioned room with devotees mov...

Re: New temple PowerPoint...change or pre-emptive damage control over temple film director

This whole situation is so annoying because virtually no temple recommend holding Mormon knows the name, "Sterling Van Wagenen". Many know that Michael Ballam was playing Satan in the 1990 movie, but he was probably the most high profile actor since Gordon Jump played Peter in one of the 1970 movies...

I had that "Snow" when I lived in Canada for two years, but I so rarely encounter it now.
