Primary is terrible. The stake decided no more snacks for Nursery because two-year olds need more time for doctrine. No more singing happy birthday to the kids because they need more time for doctrine. No more fun songs because they only have time for doctrinal songs. I wish I were joking.

Re: Clenched Fists and Open Hands

This is interesting, sounds like he ends up on a similar page to Joe Scott, whom I posted about in another thread. Scott is a science and culture youtuber and his discussion of God talked about an openness to the idea of God and some of the possibilities of what it is, (rather than 'who he is').

Re: Unexpected and Unsolicited Spiritual Experience

Have you had anything like this happen to you since your faith crisis? Maybe Brother Fluffy will tell us a bout a similar experience he had at a heavy metal concert. Similar-ish. I was reading through Fowler's book and dealing with my crashed shelf and DWs angst about it. It finally hit me that I w...

Re: What Would It Take to Keep You?

I'd like to see them change from being a toxic influence in so many people's lives, but I can't imagine changes that would persuade me to re-engage on any meaningful level. This is true, I have a bit of angst that these continual moves will keep DW and my Kids in indefinitely. Since the toxicity wi...

What Would It Take to Keep You?

"At the rate things are changing, you may as well stay in the church!" I find this argument giving me anxiety. I have been asked "Can't you acknowledge all of what they have already done, and admit its good and that given time it can be a great religion to stay in? What does the church need to do to...

Re: Apocalypse vitamins and the return of FARMS

I agree. The problem is, that was the type of mormonism that many of us connected with and developed a testimony of. Now we can see that type of mormonism never existed, and what we have in its place is just hollow. Makes me wonder if that's why so many ex/post Mormons don't find another religion, ...

Yeah, well, I guess the jokes on us then isn't it? :|
Don't get me wrong, I love those quotes. But if JS or BY had to contend with the Internet I am very skeptical that they would have uttered them.

Re: Sunday Logistics

2 hour church is way better. I brought up how much better 2 hour church is at a family gathering and all my siblings ignored me, but my 18 year old nephew loudly agreed. Part of me would prefer 4 hour church, so I could point to how awful it is because that's better for my long term goals, but 2 ho...

Re: Apocalypse vitamins and the return of FARMS

Elder Holland's (and apparently the entire Q15's) version of Mormonism is not what Joseph Smith, or even Brigham Young ever taught. It is limited, watered down, weak, and provably false. Those statements are all fine and good unless they distract from holding up the church and its leaders. That kin...

Check out this update of some of the amazing new Book of Mormon evidence they have found at "Bountiful." In light of this I may have to reevaluate my faith crisis  :

by Red Ryder » Mon Feb 11, 2019 2:34 pm Can you expand on "this guy" for those of us that don't immediately click on YouTube videos? Give a summary or quick synopsis? I watch this guy for a lot of stuff and this came up in my suggestions. This is the closest explanation to how I feel about the God question that I have seen to date.

I went to the local meeting house and watched with DW and Kids. Boring, banal, church and prophet worship. DW thanked me for going and suggested I read something interesting on my phone. :D

Re: a creator god vs a moral god

Still don't understand how Mormons are "monotheistic". Elohim, Jehovah, The wholley spirit, Lucifer, 2/3 of the host of heaven that got cast down to earth as demons, all kinds of angels. That's a lot of God's and demigods. Just because they say one of these beings that have supernatural powers is mo...

This is where they have to go with it. These blessings are appearing more and more uninspired. my son was completely disappointed with his when he compared it to a friend and found that they were almost identical. They can't tell the future and they know it. So now it just has to be this kind of gui...

She tells me that she is who she is because of church and that the only way a kid can be raised to know good is through the church. I counter that I've known her since she was 15 and she is not this way just because of the church and that if she feels you can't raise a kid w/o the church what does ...

Thanks all, venting here helps. Which section are you sitting in? To clarify we are just planning on attending a the stake building, not driving to the stadium. I am still assuming this is going to use up the bulk of the evening. There's nothing worse than going to a family event where no one really...

Nelson visit

Sigh. This is giving me fits right now, can't sleep. Sunday is our day with DS and DDIL, it was supposed to be a birthday thing, but now its been usurped by the Nelson fireside. DW confesses she really doesn't want to go at all, neither do I, I know at least two of our kids wouldn't go if they reall...
