Method Infinite

I've been meaning to read Method Infinite for a while and I'm about 3/4 through. Has anyone read it? I'm in front of a screen all day for I like to listen to books. I bought it on Kindle and then the Alexa app will read it to you. It's a little clumsy, but generally works well. Some things that stoo...

Re: Magical Parchments

Yes! That's the site that really peaked my curiosity. The site founder is the guy who did the amazing Glass Looker graphic novels, he has some replicas available for sale complete with carrying pouch https://theglasslooker.com/product/magic-parchments/

Magical Parchments

The first time I read Quinn's Mormonism and the Magic Worldview, I was fascinated with the magical parchments in the book. There are crappy black and white photos of the parchments taken by a Smith family friend in the 70s (before the book came out and when everyone thought they were quirky Masonic ...

Bath Golden Plates

I just listened to an interview with Paul Toscano where he tells the story of Gary Fuchs in Bath, England who had missionaries tract into him and brought out golden plates, a sword of Laban and U&T. He claimed that his father was a German archeologist who had worked in South America and fled to Engl...

Authority of the Apostleship

I am probably different from a lot of you in that I am probably close to many on the belief/non-belief side but feel like I have actually found a good niche in continuing to participate and embracing cafeteria Mormonism. I had to teach an EQ lesson on Nelson's talk about finding rest from the last c...

Re: Why modern prophets don't appear to have the gift of prophesy

I listened to an interview with a Community of Christ historian and was surprised to realize that their church president/prophets have revelations that are voted on and canonized into their scripture. This is pretty wild when you realize that last canonized D&C section fro us was in 1921. From the C...

Re: Original Doctrines

Flex-if-Fabulous does have a great ring! I agree this is definitely Brigham era godhead, but seems to be what Joseph was experimenting with at the end of his life in Nauvoo and jives with the King Follett Discourse. I will have to talk to my friend again, but several years ago, a friend who worked i...

Original Doctrines

Rick Bennett has a fascinating interview on the gospel tangents podcast with Joe Jessup who grew up in the United Apostolic Brethren (Allred Polygamous Group) and converted to the LDS Church. He gives the history of the various groups and gets into the doctrine. This won't be news to anyone on here,...

Moderation in All Things

This has probably been covered a ton in the past, but I wanted to get some ideas from people on here about alcohol. I first started experimenting with drinking last year during the holiday season and it was love at first sip. I loved the taste, the feeling, everything about it. I am a regular coffee...

Re: Demythologizing Mormonism

I think the church is in a tough position on this one. On the cover of the most recent Liahona, it shows a bunch of photos of all races of people and says "The Lord is Gathering His Covenant People." This was a big turn off for my wife who does not like the exclusivity this promotes (elect covenant ...

Re: Grant Palmer's non-believing GA revealed

Busche was German and from Germany, but moved to Bountiful and I don't think he ever left. He was in my friend's ward growing up, so that would put him in Utah, even after he retired.

Re: Grant Palmer's non-believing GA revealed

For some reason,I've found this whole thing fascinating ever since Grant Palmer talked about this mysterious GA and looked at charts, etc. to try to figure out who it was. My research was pretty bad because Busche never came on my radar. I have a friend who was in a ward with the Busches growing up ...

Re: Burial in temple clothes

Interesting discussion. I have heard that Brigham Young was the first leader to be buried in temple clothes and people kind of followed after that. I think it does tie back to masonry, masons are traditionally buried in their masonic aprons.

Re: On Tea

I may have lost all credibility for flirting with cigars, but after a lot of research on the WOW, I am convinced that JS incorporated accepted health science of the day into scripture and attributed it to God as a revelation, this included the idea that the temperature of drinks was bad for the body...

Re: New RFM episodes on Translation

This is a really great episode and articulated an idea that has been in my mind for a while, which is a tendency from JS on to attribute the thoughts of leadership to God and call it revelation. RFM did a great job of making this case. An interesting follow-up would be to show how this continued thr...
