Re: Mental and Emotional Exhaustion

For the wife who says she needs physical affection, that is her “love language”. That was the first thing I thought of, too. She might not be able to offer more suggestions because what she's suggested already is what she needs most. Physical affection is my primary love language. I can tell you fo...

Re: Agency?

...so, when do I choose? Agency is the power to make choices. Believing in God takes away all of my agency because I immediately give everything over to an invisible deity. Gods are an ancient concept, whereas having "agency" is a fairly modern one. It is rather sticky to judge one mythology by the...

Re: Are member's testimonies changing?!

I listened at home to the live streamed testimony in my ward yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find that a couple of members in their testimonies said to the effect, "I'm not sure if the church is true but believe in Jesus". There were other more orthodox testimonies and one of the ones tha...

Hey guys thanks for the thoughts and advice. I should try to be more honest with her too. This is hard for me on some things like paying tithing and drinking coffee. She just found out I had been drinking coffee and had a bit of a melt down even though I told her I had been drinking coffee six mont...

Re: Ezra Taft Benson and Conspiracies

One thing that was really interesting from the book was how the civil rights movement played into his views on communism and blacks getting the priesthood. There were really 2 separate issues with the church regarding blacks; whether they should have the priesthood and whether they should be integr...

Lee vilified for tweets

So Mike Lee tweeted that America isn't a democracy. An even-handed account of the skirmish: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-lee-democracy-idUSKBN26T2YX I know it's not in a politician's mandate to understand an opponent and actually engage with their ideas, but the strident backlash ...

Re: Canonized Stupidity

Mosiah 29:13: ...it would be expedient that ye should always have kings to rule over you. Did that come from his Twitter feed? He didn't post anything from the Book of Mormon, but he said "Democracy isn’t the objective; liberty, peace, and prospefity are. We want the human condition to flourish. Ra...

Did you count my mail in votes?
From what people are telling me mail-in votes are mostly fraudulent so they were thrown out.
That explains why Rusty didn't get the million points I awarded him by mail just to mess with everyone.

(Not saying that ANY of us were actually able to understand those "covenants" at 8 years old. Not sure anyone can truly explain exactly what those "covenants" actually mean in reality...) Ooh ooh ooh! I know this one! You covenant to be Mormon, and there's little else to it. You talk like a Mormon,...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 39

Two words: loose translation. As a believer, every mental defense I employed against anachronisms came down to this.

And I mean really, really loose, to the point where Joseph is swapping whole paragraphs and parables with wild abandon. Beyond loose. A slutty old bimbo of a translation.

Re: General Konference Predictions

5 new temples will be announced, including one on the moon. 10 new GAs will be sustained, 3 of which are first cousins once removed of an apostle. There will be 2 who seem to have darkish skin if you squint hard enough. President Oaks will yet again publicly lick the church's wounds over having lost...

Re: Is anyone talking about the new proclamation?

My favorite part is “ We further witness that Joseph Smith was given the gift and power of God to translate an ancient record:” Now it is enshrined that the BoM was translated even as the narrative is changing to it being a revelation. I’m anxious to see how this plays out. Well, see, "translate" r...

Re: Inability to trust and feeling nostalgic

I get this. In an apparent contradiction, like alas, I think I actually trust people more. But it's individuals I trust more. What I trust less now is groups of people, especially groups that have a lot of influence over their members' beliefs and behaviors. And that influence tends to get ratcheted...

Re: Is anyone talking about the new proclamation?

My dad printed off a copy for DD and I to take home. I told her to hang it where she wanted. She hung in next to her Wonder Woman poster in her room. But she didn't put the push pin in hard enough so most of it slipped under her Wonder Woman poster. So right now it's mostly under Wonder Woman's lef...

Re: Rasband's Face-to-Face

Maybe what he was trying to say was applying “why not commit suicide” to “why stay in the church”. I used to give my depressed clients that kind of answer to why not kill yourself. Well because one year from now you will be glad you are still here. But the answer for the church DOES NOT WORK. You g...

“This is an emotional experience for me,” said President Hinckley. “I come as peacemaker. This is not a time for recrimination or the assignment of blame. Convenient. No one can explain what happened in these meadows 142 years ago. False. We may speculate, but we do not know. False. We do not under...

Re: How the Helmeth Hübener story was suppressed

That is where the church keeps screwing up. Over and over. Any mistake is proof they are human instead of supper prophets with a big letter “p” on their chest. They are too proud of “propheting” to admit they are human and repent of mistakes. This is the #1 reason I'm out. I can accept mistakes. Hu...
