Looks like the judge is limiting the clergy penitence privilege based on the idea that Adams didn’t really follow the repentance protocol and posted his crime videos to the internet.

Re: The Mormon church releases ANOTHER statement going after the AP
If the church really practiced what it’s implying in the statement then their policy would be focused on mandatory reporting regardless of state laws. Forgot about the whole repentance process. That’s not even a significant priority when abuse is involved. Report, help the investigation, then perman...

Re: The Mormon church releases ANOTHER statement going after the AP
I’m quoting the statement here to preserve in case it gets redacted or flushed down the memory hole. For generations, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have spoken in the strongest of terms about the evils of abuse and the need to care for those who are victims or survivors ...

Re: The Mormon church releases ANOTHER statement going after the AP
Sister Ryder read the statement to me after seeing a post of Facebook. It appears the church laid out some more details around the timeline that the AP article missed or got wrong. Paraphrasing: One “limited” instance of abuse was confessed Helpline was used to navigate complexity of state mandatory...

Imagine if a hamster had to pay to run in the wheel and all he got for it was shame for not running fast enough to please the Sky Hamster. But it's all worth it! The more time and effort he spends running in the wheel, the greater reward he can look forward to... AFTER he dies. What’s with all this...

Re: Naïve Realism
I had similar thoughts as a young naive missionary. If people could just believe like “we” do then their lives would be sooooo amazing. All thoughts and stuff said before I even understood if their life was already fulfilling and meaningful to them. After a year out, I recall teaching a lady who let...

Re: No more “tithing settlement…”
What makes tithing so special that we need to have a special declaration for it? What is the greatest commandment? Why don't we have a "Love the Lord Thy God" settlement? Is tithing really more important than chastity? Why don't we have a chastity declaration? The church puts its focus on what it c...

Is Bishop really a 40 hour a week calling?
I’ve never been a Bishop. I expect I’ll never be a bishop. My dad was a bishop in the late 80’s. I don’t exactly recall how much time he spent doing the job. I just remember the other kids teasing is for being the bishops kids. Mom played the organ so us kids had to tend to ourselves on the back row...

Re: Adult Saturday Night Stake Conference "date"
I always refused to mix church and “date night”.
Let’s call it what it is. Church is church.
Date night is date night!
Semantics eh?
Two things church should never be a part of.
1. Date night
2. Bedroom activities
Red Ryder’s Rules #56 and #1, respectively.

Re: No more “tithing settlement…”
I’d prefer “Financial Statement Review” where the Prophet gets up at the pulpit and reviews the consolidated financial statements of the church and details all of the various portfolios. Specifically: Contributions by source Investment balances by source Detailed expenditures by use Sexual abuse pay...

Here’s the specific clip from YouTube. https://youtu.be/DQfT0ZT2bEo When did these guys adopt the evangelical swagger? It’s like they’re trying to be cool and hip while throwing down the Lords commandments! It would be cool if someone could edit the video and replace “mission” with “polygamous wife”...

Mormonism is embedded in our psyche. We’ll always be those guys on a bike. Always wear your garments on a hike. Wanted to go on a mission since a tike. Mormonism is embedded in your brain. Right down to the foundations of your frame. Can’t get out and ever be the same. Cuz Mormonism is embedded in y...

Re: No more “tithing settlement…”
This just means someone has to update the bingo cards. And the Mormon lingo will take care of itself. Can we push back Sunday family dinner until 7:00? We have tithing declaration at 6:20. Brothers and sisters, I stand before you today to bare my testimony that the lord knows each of us so well. Dur...

No more “tithing settlement…”
Tithing settlement to be replaced with tithing declaration.
To begin September 1st.

I declare zero. Nada, none, zilch, zero.

Re: child's baptism -- help
I baptized my last kid 10 years ago. It was literally a month after they changed the rules where you need the Temple Recommend to do the confirmation. I wasn’t fully out yet to family and my bishop wouldn’t budge on the rule change. He merely suggested I renew my recommend. I had not paid tithing in...

Re: Holy Fetch! (Update…)
Hey RR! It's been a while since I've been on this board, as my journey continues the church seems further and further behind in the rear view mirror. The recent AP story prompted me to come back to see the discussion, but I landed on this thread right away. I'm very happy to see that your relations...

Re: Holy Fetch! (Update…)
Your wife will process and progress at her pace as she is ready. I have to quietly remind myself of that each time my wife shares a little of her thoughts with me. Mostly I just try to hold space for her. Be present. Just listen, validate, and acknowledge. She needs to feel safe in opening up to yo...

Re: Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!
Here’s a great podcast she can relate to. Take a listen first and determine if you think she will like it then find a way for her to listen. Show her you have empathy for her “extra responsibilities” and perhaps she can understand why Mormon women feel the way they do in your situation. At Last She ...

They know they’ve never seen or spoken to Jesus or God.
Everything else is irrelevant to me.
Have you actually spoken or seen God or Jesus in your role as prophet, seer, and revelatory? Yes or No?
