Re: child's baptism -- help

I baptized my last kid 10 years ago. It was literally a month after they changed the rules where you need the Temple Recommend to do the confirmation. I wasn’t fully out yet to family and my bishop wouldn’t budge on the rule change. He merely suggested I renew my recommend. I had not paid tithing in...

Re: Holy Fetch! (Update…)

Hey RR! It's been a while since I've been on this board, as my journey continues the church seems further and further behind in the rear view mirror. The recent AP story prompted me to come back to see the discussion, but I landed on this thread right away. I'm very happy to see that your relations...

Re: Holy Fetch! (Update…)

Your wife will process and progress at her pace as she is ready. I have to quietly remind myself of that each time my wife shares a little of her thoughts with me. Mostly I just try to hold space for her. Be present. Just listen, validate, and acknowledge. She needs to feel safe in opening up to yo...

Re: Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!

Here’s a great podcast she can relate to. Take a listen first and determine if you think she will like it then find a way for her to listen. Show her you have empathy for her “extra responsibilities” and perhaps she can understand why Mormon women feel the way they do in your situation. At Last She ...

Re: Convinced the Q15 know the truth

They know they’ve never seen or spoken to Jesus or God.

Everything else is irrelevant to me.

Have you actually spoken or seen God or Jesus in your role as prophet, seer, and revelatory? Yes or No?

Re: Church Statement on AP article - training of those who work with children?

The church should be required to spend the same amount of money and efforts preventing abuse that they do to pay and settle out of court and hide abuse.

Or at least start treating the children like monetary assets and portfolio balances.

Re: “By their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:20) - Seven years of sex abuse: How Mormon officials let it happen

That article needs to come with a trigger warning. It’s infuriating to see the patterns of protection applied to the church and not the children. If anyone is interested in an amazing podcast listen to episode 80 of the At Least She Said It podcast. It’s the story of a women who suffered abuse and h...

Re: Feel Injured->Desire Vengeance->Soothe

Good points. When a spouse demands that you attend church it's not only the church that you feel hurt by, but also your spouse for forcing you to go. It's like if there is a fire and someone holds your hand over it, both the fire and the person holding your hand cause the burn. But they feel like y...

Re: "Does DW Drink Coffee?"

I’ve been to the Dutch Bros in Provo with my daughter. The line spilled down the street and there were plenty of BYU stickers on nearly every car. I’d have to assume that recent talk on coffee suggesting any drink ending in “chino” was against the word of wisdom was a direct shot at the youth. We sh...

Re: Renlund story makes me mad

I clicked so you don’t have to! I’d like to know if the man was healed? What happened Elder Renlund? What happened to Brother Thomas? The first man we visited, Brother Thomas, was dying of AIDS. After offering comfort and support, I asked if there was anything we could do for him. Brother Thom...

Re: Holy Fetch! (Update…)

It’s been a few weeks now and an update is in order. Sis R continues to burn through podcasts including a few Mormon Stories episodes now. Her focus continues to be around the patriarchy, polygamy, and cultural issues specifically surrounding women and their roles (or lack thereof) in the church. Sh...

Re: More lifting from Old Testament?

Go read the FARMs apologetics where they state that “Bride Capture” was a common “ancient” practice! Some have criticized the Book of Mormon because a similar kidnapping story can be found in Judges. After a desolation which killed many Benjamite women, there were not enough women for the men. The i...

A lot of people are saying it's too little, too late. Count me as one of those people. Regardless of any sort of apology past or present, any organization that represents any sort of God would do all they could to avoid every problem requiring an apology of sorts. Why is child sexual abuse happenin...

Re: Husband accepted Primary calling behind my back!

Did you have a prior agreement about accepting church callings? I can understand the anger issue where the church didn't ask you about his accepting a teacher callings . I think that the norm is the spouse isn't involved for approval? Those are reserved for more intense assignments usually. So I ho...

Fascinating discussion!

I like the snow globe analogy.

I’ve had a few preliminary discussions with the wife about doing this and it always comes back to “hippy recreational drug use”.

I think I’ll get the Micheal Pollen book on audible.

Yeah it’s a weird sentiment isn’t it? They feel bad for us thinking we’re missing out on something amazing, wonderful, and special. I had a conversation with my dad and finally had the chance to tell him I thought the whole thing was fundamentally nice in principal and that I loved the idea of famil...

I really want a RazzBear from Fizz right now. We don't have any soda shops in Texas. My cousin said a friend of hers tried to get funding to start one but they didn't think people would buy soda with more sugar added to it. Sigh...Maybe one day... Yeah but ya’ll have Buc-ee’s! https://s.hdnux.com/p...
