Re: Having non member friends over for dinner

A few ideas: 1. Quietly replace the pictures with Greek Orthodox churches from the late 1700’s 2. Quietly replace the pictures with your favorite professional sports athletes. Fake a few autographs for true authenticity. 3. Quietly replace the pictures with nothing. Or better yet, punch a hole in th...

5 (May 17th, 1843.) The more sure word ofprophecy means a man’s knowing that he is sealed up unto ceternal life, by revelation and the spirit of prophecy, through the power of the Holy Priesthood.
Gotcha. Don’t talk about fight club.

Re: Why don't they teach this aspect of Celestial Marriage?

How does the 2nd anointing play into this? Where is the 2nd anointing discussed in the D&C? If it’s not there then how did it come to be an ordinance? I also recall that the Deseret news or whatever the newspaper was called back in the day used to list the people who received their 2nd anointing. So...

Re: US Religion Census and the LDS church

When I was a ward clerk we counted sacrament meeting attendance each week. Didn’t matter if visitors were there or not. We just counted everybody. Of course the weeks when there were missionary farewells and primary programs attendance was higher. If I recall the weekly numbers were entered into the...

Isn’t that really just a built in excuse for Joseph to commit all manners of blasphemies?

Seems like he wrote in a few exemptions for himself.

Re: Tales from the Heretic in HC

Hey Mormorrisey,

What happens after you get released? Will you accept another calling? If so, which ones are you willing to do?

I maintained a primary calling with the wife for a few years and then post covid haven’t been back so currently don’t have one.

Re: US Religion Census and the LDS church

I think the census surveys are self reported. So it’s possible the church data was inflated by people who moved but didn’t forward their records or people that have died but haven’t had their records removed. Either way I think everyone knows the church membership statistics are always over inflated...

Re: Progressive mormonism

I’ve been fairly active during my faith crisis and only recently stopped attending (like Ghost, I just didn’t go back after covid). I never considered trying to follow a progressive Mormonism path because if I’m honest with myself, the whole schnitzel just stinks. It’s been beyond boring for years. ...

Unless the rule has logic and good science behind it, we need to be willing to let it go.
There would be nothing left in Mormonism when exact obedience is the first law of heaven.

But nonetheless you are right so you’re also getting my vote!

Re: Tales from the Heretic in HC

I love this post especially the Bishop’s wife complimenting you on your talk. Mormonism really can’t move past the redundant routines and accept that certain issues are slowly killing it. what made it great in the 50’s and 60’s no longer works. It’s a symptom of the one prophet and 14 successors mod...

Re: You're only happy because Satan won

My faith really truly began to unwind when I realized Satan wasn’t real.

The infants on thrones episode where Satan just quit and took his ball home may have played into that.

How do we know we’re not living in a simulation theory?

I’m sitting on the patio (possibly drinking) and there’s a light rain drizzling from the sky. Occasional airplanes flying overhead, the clouds vibrant, and the skies radiating in the the dim moonlight. As I look up, I wonder if God really exists? Are you out there my dude? I stopped praying because ...

Re: Church fraud investigation

I watched the documentary last night. Bednar’s body language during the national press club speech was very telling. He had his body turned away from the front of the pulpit, perhaps to look at a video screen or perhaps in avoidance. His eyes seemed closed at times and his voice reflection was all o...

Don’t forget the temple initiatory ordinance formerly known as “the Naked Poncho”! For all of those who forgot or never got to experience the Naked Poncho, the participant would strip down to full nudity in a dressing cubicle within the locker room. They would change out of their street clothes and ...

Stealth, your participation here at NOM all these years has been invaluable to so many of us. I always feel a sense of loss when posters move on and stop participating. I felt that for the short time you were away only to find a sense of happiness and joy when you came back! Especially with the news...

Re: THAT's why it changed from "teaching" to "ministering!"

I guess it could be the reason, but to me it seems more likely they just did it to sound more mainstream Christian. Non members or investigators, sorry I mean friends, have no idea what the hell a home teacher is, but "minister" might evoke some warm fuzzy feelings. Until they find out what it is. ...

From my TBM perspective, the best home teachers/ministering persons did this:

(Nothing)
Everyone is too busy to truly care if they were visited by another member of the choir.
