However, LDS leadership wants to keep obedience to leadership held high while not holding prophets, seers, and revelators held to high standards of divine knowledge or inspiration. GC has always tried to show how these aged, dignified men are calmly looking at you and speaking the will of the Lord....

Since just about every ancient civilization had some kind of religion you probably would have had religion. The question is whether that religion would have been monotheistic or polytheistic. Big changes just mean restructuring things like a business.
Only the LDS church can present a name change and call it revelation. Now standing up in GC and stating that Sunday hymns will no longer be played & sung as if at a funeral - now that would be inspiration!
