Re: The Waiting Game

So I recently got an email back from him. It was very heartfelt and genuine, a side of my dad I don’t get to see very often. He addressed some issues, but basically said that if it wasn’t pertinent to his salvation he tries not to worry about it too much. I haven’t replied yet. I’m kind of on burn o...

Re: Faith Crisis and Depression

Thank you all for the positive responses. I have an appointment to see a psychiatrist this week to see if we can get my medication smoothed out. I’m hopeful that that will help.

Re: “Have you been reading the Book of Mormon?”

I just tell people that I’ve never done so much reading in my life. Which is true, even if it’s not ALL scriptures. But in my history research I find myself looking up a lot of things in the scriptures and rereading them as part of my research. So I count it.

Re: The Waiting Game

Update: So I sent an email out to my whole family the let them know I’m bi last night. Mostly positive responses. My mom called this morning and had some questions. We had a good conversation. During our conversation I found out that my dad has been wanting to dig into the information in my email bu...

Re: Success is possible

I post here a post of home for those who are waiting for their DH/DW to see the light. Last night my wife told me "Hey I have made my decision" *my heart sinks* We have been here before and had to be a mixed faith marriage. She then proceeds "The Transition will be hard, but I have decided to follo...

The Waiting Game

My dad agreed to discuss some of the more difficult parts of church history with me. I’m hoping to gain some insight into the way he sees things, and hopefully it will help me better navigate some of the rougher parts of his personality. I’m hoping it will also create more compassion in his relation...

Re: BoM forensic linguistics

Fascinating. I spent the whole day reading (no really, ask IT_Vet) and learning new things. I was mostly rehashing sources I’d already read for a compilation, but I kept getting distracted by new things. It’s crazy how much I never knew! And I was BIC!

Re: Hello, I’m new

I mostly just want to run away. I’m definitely at the “flight” end of fight or flight. I’m thinking a quiet island somewhere. Not many people. No churches. Mountains and beaches to explore. Yep. That sounds amazing. My wife has made nearly the same comment, that she would be ready to accept it all ...

Too much

I’ve spent too much time with my nose in books today. I’m trying to put together an email on polygamy and in rereading so many of these sources I’m filled with so much anger and grief. I wish I could give Emma a big hug and hold her while she cried. She endured so much. Also, I can’t even read apolo...

Re: Using truthful facts to deceive

"Several months before her 15th birthday" is paltering. I haven't checked yet, but I have the impression that paltering is mostly what the essays do to mislead and deceive. Yes!! I was just complaining to my husband about this very quote today! Now I have a word to define what I was trying to expre...

Re: Hello, I’m new

Thanks for responding. I was curious because Kalikala has talked about moving across the country and just making a fresh start. DD is 13yo and still TBM, so I don't think DW would leave it entirely behind, but would likely take a similar approach to what you've described. I mostly just want to run ...

Perhaps she has been in communication with the Angel of the Drawn Sword.
I think that’s going to be my new favorite euphemism.

Re: Beliefs influencing major life decisions

This is absolutely heartbreaking. 💔 I’m so sorry you went through that in a place that’s supposed to be loving and accepting. I started thinking about it, and I know the church has effected my life, but I’m kind of a rebellious person at heart, so I went against the grain a lot. Like when I got marr...

Re: Mom is in the hospital today

Sometimes I can hardly contain the anger I feel for the church's backward teachings about families. Telling people that they cannot be with their family members in heaven if they don't believe is cruel to both the believers and the nonbelievers. At times I am so furious about this, and at other tim...

So much for the first amendment.

This is probably a valuable lesson to the girls on how social media can effect their lives and to think things through before posting.

But the school is wrong about this IMO.

Re: The Patriarchy is strong in my family...

Thanks all. After having a few days to calm down I feel a little better. Still frustrated, but now my frustration is more aimed at the church and the well disguised fear based beliefs. I hope I’ll be able to find a way to talk to my dad without feeling angry. Especially since he’s coming to visit fo...

The Patriarchy is strong in my family...

Ugh. Talked to my parents tonight to let them know ahead of time that my son has left the church. We decided it would be best for them to know now before they come to visit so they can process and hopefully the anger will dissipate. It was an interesting conversation. My parents still think I'm TBM....
