Re: Garments always hanging out and it drives me nuts
I feel for ya'll. Been there, worn that. So glad my wife and I no longer wear them. She will still wear them to church at times, and when I go, I will usually wear at least the top garm, as it's relatively comfortable under a long sleeve white shirt. Nothing special to me, just a while t shirt that ...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?
But, was anyone else ever confused about what exactly the "token" was? In a masonic ritual, a token must be performed by two people. So the sign is the little micro-dance you do with the positions of you arms and hands (bent to the square, cupped...) and the token is the actual handshake. Oh yeah! ...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?
It's been years since I've done a session. Still... I think I can remember the first and second tokens of the Aaronic Priesthood, and the first and second tokens of the Melchizedek Priesthood with their accompanying names and signs. But, was anyone else ever confused about what exactly the "token" w...

Re: Past Stance Against Christianity
I remember feeling very surprised by the preacher dude the first time I went through the temple, and was happy when he was taken out of subsequent temple videos. It seemed very clear to me that the preacher represented ALL the other Protestant Christian sects and that Satan was behind it all, and th...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?
I remember being a bit startled that Satan in the live session wore a black suit. I just wasn't used to anyone wearing anything but white in the temple. The one live session I attended was pretty fun because it was different. But it was also kinda weird; when you take the same lines and you remove t...

Re: What did you learn in the temple today, honey?
I learned a lot in the temple. The first time through, I learned that it was a bit underwhelming and weird. I didn't learn anything new, really, except my new name and that pregnancy was painful for women because Eve ate the fruit first, but the second time I learned that Eve was the smarter one aft...

Not to take away from Alas's sound advice, but if you want to do something bad enough you will do it, and deal with the consequences. You want to try beer but don't want to do it behind her back. So you bring it up, she recoils. She asks you never to do it. You don't. Is your marriage really better?...

Re: Gavin Newsom is more in tune with God’s will
Good lord... The folks I was referring to, and I do know some, are inching their way out of the church because they, if I understand their position correctly, feel the current leadership is too liberal in some areas and are becoming more "mainstream" and tolerant while the constitution begins to han...

Re: Everything scary was invented by The Church
I agree with all ya'll... the only exception I can think of is Bigfoot. I watched The Legend of Boggy Creek when I was a kid and it scared me. I remember hearing that hairy monster's footsteps following me after I finished the chores in the barn one evening while I was running back to the house. Luc...

[If you are disabled, elderly, or permanently handicapped in any way - there is no support for you from the church. Do you think that comes from the LDS interpretation of Jesus's message to help, or from LDS political conservatism "to be not of the world but rather emulated dog eat dog in the world...

Re: NOM for Thee, NOM for He, or NOM for me?
The hateful NOM described by some has not been my experience. In some ways, I feel that the experience anyone has with a group of people reflects the attitudes and personality of the person having the experience. That we change the dynamics of the group and the effect the group has on us by the vari...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?
I totally understand the wife's concern. In the Mormon world view, leaving the church equates to losing the spirit and being unprotected from the machinations of the adversary. From this perspective, people can be good before they have the gospel, but not completely happy. Once they have it then lea...

I think this issue may also relate to neurochemistry and hormones. Maybe too much testosterone?
And incest isn't always violent. Case in point, a female cousin asking her barely younger male cousin to touch her. Technically incest, but more exploring sexuality with an available and willing partner.

Re: Slowly fading away? The future of NOM?
I very much appreciate this forum and all the folks who have made this forum possible. I found the old forum at a time when I thought I was nearly alone in my thoughts and beliefs, and it was a wonderful feeling to realize I was one of hundreds or thousands. I then landed at StayLDS, which became a ...

Re: The usefulness of prophets
The apologetic response might be that priesthood authority allows certain men stewardship over others. They get revelation for you and can tell you what to do. Or rather, they can say that God told them to tell you what to do.

Re: So, why did Jesus have to die?
I don't know about you guys, but I was taught that the reason Jesus died is because God sent him to earth, and we're the only people in the entire universe wicked enough to kill him. He would have been just fine on Perelandra or Rigel 9. Yessir, preach it. Hagoth! Jesus was the savior of many world...

Re: New marketing manual from dear leader
I remember as an executive secretary, being asked to shred several copies of an old version of the church handbook of instructions after the new handbook arrived, and to do the shredding not at the church, which had no shredder, but at my place of employment. I did not do as I was asked. I just toss...
