Re: Where will you go?

I would say I'm already there; on a journey of discovery instead of going around and around in the same circle. I would tell him that a wise man once said, "if you still believe the same things at fifty that you believed at twenty-five, you've wasted twenty-five years." Love that quote and have use...

Re: Technology- has it ruined music?

I feel your pain. IMO, there are some very talented people making some very nice music, but it's not the stuff you see on mainstream media. It's more difficult to find. What does today's Mozart do? The Jimmy Hendrix? There are still the prodigies, but sometimes they get lost in the technology. Again...

Re: Is it possible to get your donation history from the church?

Working together doing our taxes, I realized my wife has been paying tithing. She pays a small monthly amount from her small home business income. She handles the family finances and I'd previously asked her to please not pay one cent of my money to the church, so she hasn't. She's no longer TBM. Sh...

Re: Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!

End temple exclusivity. End temple garments. The people in attendance of a sealing aren't even in temple clothes, just Sunday dress with little booties. I guess the reason they don't open it up to members in general (which is still too restrictive IMO) is because the couple is in temple clothes and...

Re: Church's rainy day safety net

I'm learning that building needless temples is a good way to spend some of the excess tithing dollars and help to ensure the tithing donations continue to pour in. BUT, the Church does NOT spend more than it takes in, so there are still millions (if not a billion) excess AFTER building needless temp...

Re: Temple attendance, temple recommend, temple, temple temple!

One of the last times, if not THE last time (I can't remember for sure) that I attended the temple, it was for a nephew's wedding. A large number of people were there gathered at a temple taking pics. We all then went into the temple waiting room for several minutes while the soon-to-be bride and gr...

Ministering Interviews

I recently listened to a John Dehlin podcast where he interviewed a current bishop from Mexico. One of the things discussed involved this bishop's stake pressuring wards to report that ministering interviews occurred among 80% or more of the ministering companionships. It sounded like they were tryi...

Re: O.T. Prophets who messed up.

What's so damn ironic is that steroids shrink your testicles and make you sterile. So even if God wanted Nephi to pass on all those fine qualities to a multitude of women, he couldn't. Now, the Lion of the Lord, Mr Brigham Young and Brigham Often surely had no problem procreating, and thanks to the ...

Re: Do LDS give their Soul to the Church, or to Jesus?

Well, Joseph was pretty good at getting others to do what he wanted by getting specific and convenient revelations from God to them. Many of these were canonized in the D&C. I think later prophets missed out on that perk. It seems rather clear to me that the church has packaged Jesus pretty well, so...

Re: Reconciling the new temple teachings and literalism

I haven't been for quite a while. Is it true that you don't actually shake/ touch hands anymore? They used to say, "we desire all to receive it" and ask to make sure everyone received that touch token. The ordinance workers went out of their way to get that dang token to everyone in the room. Why wo...

Re: O.T. Prophets who messed up.

The "really Old Testament?" That cracks me up, cnsl1! Thanks. What I thought was funny is the idea that God can't get into the God Hall of Fame because it came out that he made a bet with Satan on Job. I have a weird sense of humor. Obviously Nephi and the rest of the BofM prophets will alway...

Re: Church paying $5 Million SEC fine

I stand corrected. ... Cnsl1: I hope I didn't "offend" you with my post. I wasn't necessarily trying to call you out. I have seen several posts elsewhere asking "who" stated that the fraud was committed to hide tithing funds from members. I literally randomly found that screenshot over on that othe...

Re: Church paying $5 Million SEC fine

I stand corrected. Roger Clarke from EPA said exactly that, Just no one from the 1st presidency said it, and they were careful to NOT say that, and then disingenuous in their press release to Deseret News about the event. I wonder if Clarke will get thrown under the bus. Probably not. As momentous a...

Re: O.T. Prophets who messed up.

It's pretty much a known fact that you can learn to talk if you're raised by wolves, AND also have a bear friend and a panther advisor. You can even talk to snakes, buzzards, and elephants. And pretty much everyone over the age of 30 should know that unless they were raised by wolves. You bring up g...

Re: O.T. Prophets who messed up.

I could be wrong, but I didn't think Lot was a prophet. And based on the Bible story I remember it was his daughters that got him drunk and seduced him. The apologetic I've heard for that one is that the daughters thought they were the only people left after Sodom and Gommorah were destroyed so want...

Bishops like you guys make the church a pretty good place.

Unfortunately, the corporation squashes, washes, and bashes the good bits until they become the exception and not the norm.

Re: Church paying $5 Million SEC fine

Here is the SEC press release about the case. https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2023-35 Near the bottom of the story is a link to the SEC Order. Here you can see the actual order, which is what was agreed upon by both parties. No where does the church or Ensign Peak say a reason for hiding this...
