Sunday post church and post football
Sleep in. Relax. Eat breakfast. Work out. Relax some more. Watch some television. Play some guitar. Wash some dishes. Avoid some work that I know will still be patiently waiting for me tomorrow. Feeling very fortunate. Feeling very blessed and very lucky. Understanding that finding the gratitude is ...

Re: Communication skills
Reminds me of the Mehrabian Study in the 70s, Alas. When communicating emotionality, it's what... 52% body language, 47% tone, and 7% the actual words? I'm sure I have the percentages off slightly, but that's the gist. This study has been misunderstood quite a bit, but is particularly applicable to ...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?
Angel, you said members won't go outside the box to help a child? I did. When I was still a TBM I observed a man physically abusing a child alone in a classroom during sacrament mtg. I got in his face and told him to stop immediately. I told him he knew that was wrong. He didn't argue. I called CPS....

Re: How do you define Mormonism?
My heart aches for anyone abused. When I say the church is behind.. i mean lags behind the science, the data, the social understanding how to deal and address and treat the victims and the oppressed and those who are a little different than the norm. It isn't everyone in the church, but because the ...

The 10 Commandments (JST translation)
1. Thou shalt have no other God's before me, except my God, thine grandfather God, and his God and so on, but not whilst thou toil in this mortal existence. For now, I am thy God and I am a jealous God, so watch thine ass. 2. Thou shalt not make into thee any graven images except temples, which are ...

Re: Church and State; Utah and Texas
I would just like to mention what somebody said on another thread when they mentioned wanting to keep political discussions to the coffee shop as much as possible, so that these forums don’t get taken over with politics. They mentioned how political discussions can become so consuming as well as ma...

Re: Has Finland Anti-LDS Values?
Again, what Alas said.
I know there has to be a balance, but it ceases to amaze me that the folks who spout their Christian values the loudest are often the ones who act the least like Jesus.

Re: How do you define Mormonism?
In my humble opinion, both Mayan and Angel are right. Not all Mormons are idiots, scoundrels, or feel like sheep. Not all are mistreated. But, there is a huge systemic problem when it comes to the reporting of child abuse within the church. There is a huge systemic problem that sets up situations wh...

Re: Psychedelics in the Beehive conference
Interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing, Hagoth. I wish I lived close enough to attend. It will be interesting if or how "the brethren" will respond to questions about psilocybin. Surely they've been asked already. Lord knows that many Mormons will not make any kind of a hard decision on their own wit...

Good God. If anyone can say they've never met an Evangelical they must be living alone on a deserted island with nothing but coconuts and old Hemingway novels.
And even then.. there are the coconuts.
And even then.. there are the coconuts.

It wasn't me, Deacon. I'm the guy who's written the farcical scripturish tales like the one when Nephi III decides to apply what he's learned through prophecy and boat technology and ventures back East following that new star then meets up with Casper, Melchior, and Balthasar and finally finds Jesus...

Whoever has been keeping the lights on in this place, thank you. And thanks to all who have opened their hearts and doubts and difficulties and shared them so others could read and relate. I found this place many years ago and it felt like I landed on an Island after being adrift and feeling alone. ...

What Alas said. Also, what creates more homelessness is the LACK of good mental health services. Also, what attracts the homeless are places that are a little more liberal about letting them camp out. It's a problem that could probably be solved in a society with more humanity, less greed, more reli...

Re: The most correct book....
It occasionally strikes me as odd that this "most correct book" is used to blanket the veracity of entire church gospel. IF the BofM is true, THEN Joseph Smith was a prophet, AND Nelson is a prophet, and everything they say is true, even if it has nothing to do with anything in that most correct boo...

Re: Ruminating on Mormon Ideas
You hear the "wise" or experienced priesthood holders do this very frequently, sounding like "spiritual giants" and intelligent guys who really understand the gospel even though when you break down their argument or premise, there's not a lot that becomes very defensible, or is equally susceptible ...

Re: Keeping up with Trump
"Every American should be troubled by the choices that they have for presidential candidates." Who said that? Me. Hey C, would you rather have a likeable candidate win a fakeass election, or have a jackass win a credible election? Like probably most of you, IDKSAF, so I try to research where I can ...
