Re: Have you had this experience? Care to share?

Have you had these kinds of experiences that you seem unable to explain away? Nope. Absolutely nothing that I can think of. I'm sure there's still a part of me somewhere that wants to believe in this type of magic. Why is it that it seems only an extremely tiny subset of humanity gets to experience...

Re: Stagnant Numbers

Have you gotten any letters to leadership in your ward where they are asking wards to increase name submission? There is a huge push right now to increase name submission coming from at least above the stake level, especially with the youth and new members. It's kind of this "chicken or the egg" ar...

Re: Stagnant Numbers

But: Wasn't there an article recently that said that Salt Lake County is moving the opposite way? So I guess "some parts" of Utah are getting more conservative, and more MORmON , but not all. The fact that so many of these people are moving to St. George suggests that they are retirees coming to Ut...

Re: Have you had this experience? Care to share?

Yes, I have had these kind of experiences. There seems to be something, maybe more than one something, about our consciousness that is more than localized energy inside our brains. We have had discussions on NOM before about NDE, and that is one kind of experience, often related to out of body exper...

Re: Stagnant Numbers

Would be interesting to figure out if there was a dominant cause to the CA drop, like all the fallout from prop 8. If what I have heard in our southern Ut club is correct, people like Mormons are moving out of California because of the liberal political climate. When we have new member of the club,...

Re: Stagnant Numbers

Martinich noted a particular drop in California, which had “50 or 60” wards and branches discontinued in 2017, due to congregations “getting smaller and smaller” that have been consolidated. He said this has happened throughout the state and is not isolated to any one particular area. While “the Ch...

Re: RMN is an extortionist

The lady from the article made a wonderful point about how this is kicking sand in the eyes of all families that vary from Nelson's ideal family. Plus, it is one more attempt at establishing God as running an after-market retirement center for Pharisees. He would just claim that of course he preach...

Re: Worth sharing..Response to Nelson’s talk

Christ leaves the 99 sheep to go after the one that is lost. Mormonism says the one sheep is sh** out of luck and when another sheep points out that the first one left, Mormonism has that sheep shot for agitating the remaining. At first I thought this is about right, then I remembered what was miss...

Re: Doctrine vs Policy -- a distinction without a difference?

You guys are confused. The #1 doctrine of the church is: follow the prophet. Perhaps that is the only doctrine. So, if you disagree with what he says, you are in violation of doctrine. Doesn’t matter if he says one thing one year and the opposite the next. Doesn’t matter if he says something that go...

Re: THEY MUST APOLOGIZE!

...the offender will come face to face with exactly how much pain they caused, and they will actually feel that pain, then we will see the groveling. The Brethren's worst nightmare would be that the judgement they are constantly warning us about turns out to be real. Yes, you have to wonder about t...

Re: Wrapping our identities in the church

She responded that her identity is the church, and that without the church she would not be the person she is... for better or worse, the church is what made her. The feelings she gets reading the BoM she can't deny, and she doesn't need to worry about "mistakes made 100 years ago." We've all been ...

Re: THEY MUST APOLOGIZE!

Relevant quote? The best apology is changed behavior . Actually, I think the best apology is restitution. But for cases like kids committing suicide, if they can’t accomplish restitution, they need to grovel a little.....or a lot, then change their behavior. But then, I am a believer in NDE, and th...

Re: Equally yoked? I don't think so.

I think the problem is that the word “victim” no longer means an innocent person harmed by another. It now means, “You stupid idiot, how the hell could you let that happen” or it means, “quit whining and get a life.” There is a “self help” movement that started in about 1990 that actually accuses pe...

Re: What would you choose?

I wouldn't personally choose anything related to mormonism, but that's not really the point of this. If you invited me over, and I already had scheduled an activity for my favorite hobby and spent money on tickets, I'd decline. I'd suggest an alternate time, but I wouldn't change my plans. I wouldn...

Re: General NOMfrence Sunday Afternoon!!!

We made it through. I'm exhausted. Oaks -100 Gong +75 Bednar -50 McKay -90 Rasband -105 Nelson 0 Thank you MoPag (and everyone else who contributed)! You are all amazing. I think by Nelson’s last talk we had all quit caring how horrible it was, because his talk was pretty bad. Or maybe we had all j...

Bednar is falsely implying that we should not talk specifically about the covenants we make. I really disagree. How can you covenant on the spot, to something you don’t know about ahead of time.

Re: General NOMfrence Sunday Afternoon!!!

-50 on Oaks because even my believing husband said he is just horrible, and turned the sound off, then mimicked his stern continence. If believers can’t stand it, it must be bad. I was reading, so I only 1/4 listened. Never have liked Oaks. And I am sorry, but I can’t give my points during the talks...

Re: General NOMfrence Sunday morning!!!!

Question. Is conference getting worse, or am I getting more intolerant of all things “eventhechurchofjesuschristoflatterdaysaints”? And how do you even know? This conference bothered me more than most. And my TBM but liberal spouse man turned it off at least once per session and this last one sessio...

Re: General NOMfrence Sunday morning!!!!

I didn't mind so much the diss on the Beatles (they can handle it) as on the song about love. It brought to mind a clear memory of Monson saying, with a sneer on his face and in his voice, "all you need is love." His point was that that was a stupid thing to say and wrong on all levels. I don't kno...
