There you go again, trying to apply logic to religion.

Re: Today was a hard day !

My husband at one point admitted that if he had been treated the way the church treated me over my father being a child molester, that he would have left the church. But when I finally reached that point, he still considered divorcing me. So, spouses can fully understand your reasons, and still feel...

Re: Psychics & Ballards

My MIL was into some of the psychic stuff and saw no conflict with her Mormon beliefs. But she was also into NDE and seeing her dead relatives and other kinds of woo woo. And the more you know about Joseph Smith and the crazy stuff he was into, it is not so far fetched to understand Mormons into psy...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?

I agree with the idea of “don’t make it about the church, make it about the child.” If your child was receiving a diploma from school and the tradition was that the father hand him the diploma, you would be happy to follow tradition, even if the school wasn’t your alma mater. If he was getting a dri...

Re: Today was a hard day !

I understand that. I did it for years. So, it really does help to remind yourself why you are doing it. You just keep in mind that you love her more than you hate the church. And make sure you do happy things with each other to keep you loving her more than you hate the church. But, as Pale Rider sa...

Re: Today was a hard day !

I don’t get triggered as much when I do attend, which isn’t often. I think I would be more bothered if I was going all the time to keep a spouse happy. As it is, I was a church just before Christmas in our son’s ward, where his family was 3/4 the program. Special musical number with my granddaughter...

Re: Temples, temples everywhere...

Attention future presidents: If you don't bring this mania to a screeching halt soon you will have a thousand temples waiting in the wings despite a membership that is actually shrinking. It's insanity. Just read recently that the church is too heavy on the money side and they need to use a bunch o...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

I think the online protest to the crackdown are interesting. Some really good arguments against wearing them and lots of feelings about being forced. Some arguments I have seen, not in any specific order and not rated by how common: 1. So, the doctrine about what garments symbolize has been changed?...

Re: A New Theistic Argument

In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these… God is your ugly mean neighbor who drowns puppies and yells at kids to get off his lawn. Oops. Sorry you live next to Old Testament neighbor-god. Well, that was *not* how I meant it. But, yeah that would be Old Testament God. I meant it a...

Re: A New Theistic Argument

... So, when we project onto God our own helplessness at stopping all that evil that atheists project onto God and say that therefore God does not exist…..maybe we are missing the point. Maybe God wants *us* to stop all that suffering, not just throw our hands up in the air and yell at God for not ...

Re: A New Theistic Argument

An idea that's sometimes thrown around is that Lucifer rebelled not out of pride but because he sincerely believed that Heavenly Father's plan was flawed. That the types and degree of suffering baked in just weren't worth it and there must be a better way. I think he did honestly think there had to...

Re: A New Theistic Argument

Something fun I read the other day about this theistic argument: If god is going to go to all trouble it takes to make it look like they don't exist, It's only polite to believe them. This just made my day. Just like when a very old person does not want to tell you their age, or a very fat person d...

Re: The new throat-slitting

Also, any contract made under false pretenses, or under duress is void. And we were not informed ahead of time what the covenant was going to be, and holding a person’s marriage or mission over their head if they refuse is duress. So, even if we covenant to RustyAlmighty, the contract is null and vo...

Re: NOMference Spring 2024 Sunday morning!!!

I couldn’t really follow, because my husband is listening on his phone in the other room, but Oaks talk was one of his worst ever. He went so far overboard on the word “covenant”, that it started to sound just ridiculous, like every third to every other word, and he emphasized it, like maybe he is ...

Re: The new throat-slitting

You promise to give everything to the church of JC of LDS, but if it isn’t his church, then you are off the hook. Or, if there are no saints in said church, you are equally off the hook. Or even if it isn’t really the latter days. I figure three loop holes is good enough.

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

The deeper concern from members not wearing garments all the time is that of jealousy. Nobody likes garments. They are worn as a sacrifice they are making. When women see other women wearing yoga pants all day and athletic wear instead of garments, they instantly become jealous. If there was a new ...

Count how many times he says “covenant”, multiply by 10 and subtract from his score. I am only hearing part of this garbage, but every other word is “covenant.” Is the church now the covenant of the covenant of the covenant?

Re: NOMference Spring 2024 Saturday Morning!!!!!

I read in someone's conference predictions that they would get a woman to give the “wear your garment’s” talk because it is the women who they are losing tight control over and it will go over better if a woman nags at us. After the talk on line about the crackdown, I agreed with that idea because t...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!

A group of women got some medical based information on the problems women have with garments and took it to the man in charge of designing garments. He complained about them talking about periods and all that blood and gore. Poor men can’t stand to even hear about the blood and gore they force women...
