Re: Faith Crisis Report

On the topic of Clayton Christensen... I've wondered why he hasn't risen to the ranks of area authority or even general authority for that matter, given his serious life accomplishments and respect amongst the business-academic and big business communities. The church is all about big business right...

Re: Faith Crisis Report

In another online NOMish discussion group, someone purported to know a few people who were behind the creation of this project and its presentation at the COB. This individual confirmed what I suspected based on the quote at the beginning of the presentation - that Clayton Christensen of the Harvard...

Re: My Exorcism

Interesting for sure. I have no firsthand experience myself, but know a few people who served missions in the AZ and NM missions, and a good friend who's mother is 100% Navajo. I've asked these people what they think about skin walkers because it amuses me, and all of them say they believe in them a...

Re: Faith Crisis Report

I wonder if this influenced DFU's October 2013 talk, Come, join with us . That was the "Doubt your doubts" talk and I think we can all see how effective that bit of advice truly was. As others have noted, this was the response of a guy who is revered as a prophet, see, and revelator. I like Dieter ...

Re: What would you expect if the church was true?

If, "If the church was true" is the same thing as the church is God's one true church, I would expect the church to be the clear objective best organization on earth in: - Caring for orphans - Caring for abandoned children - Caring for the poor My #1 issue with the church is I believe the church is ...

Re: Sin, and an Omnipotant God who can't change His mind.

The famous 1982 letter banning oral sex is a good example of a sin that stopped being sinful. Was gonna say the same thing. If you really want to find some examples, dig into McConkie's Mormon Doctrine or Joseph Fielding Smith's Doctrines of Salvation. There's some interesting stuff in there. For e...

Re: I'm Leaving Soon

If you wouldn't mind, would love a report of the aftermath. And good luck! I may find myself doing the same if things continue to forward like they have under RMN. If Oaks goes crazy as president in his crusade against LGBTQ folks, I may become very publicly against the church.

Anyone want to guess?
There's some $ to be made in creating a new-name trivia game. Could be popular amongst ex-Mo's

Re: A new name

If temple names were celebrities I would be named after a Super Bowl winning quarterback and the wife would be named after a Supermodel! Yes, we have beautiful kids! Anyone want to guess? Oh man, you could be a few. Elijah, Andrew, Aaron, Stephen, Phillip, John, Joseph. As or your DW - no clue. I'd...

Re: A new name

The other night, I shared my "new name" with my DW and a good friend who is a gentile, but who knows a lot about Mormonism including the endowment. My DW then shared her new name with our gentile friend (I of course knew it already), and then we just talked about how odd the whole endowment is, etc...

FWIW, I think its' a cool name... :D
The character is cool right? As a TBM though, I always wondered if I was less faithful or something because I shared the name of the great hunter who opposed God

http://www.mormonorigins.com/assets/files/_ms1266-1-3_5--Lecture_XXXIII_The_Fall__Oath_Convenat_Fall_After_The_Order_Of_Melchezidik.pdf Interesting. There seems to be some strong parallels with temple endowment language in the above lecture: "I shall explain to you the covenant of grace..." I strugg...

Wow. Wasn't aware of that forum. Thanks for sharing. That OP is insane and god-awful. Was scanning some of the other posts on there and it literally made me depressed. Makes me understand the perspective of Richard Dawkins-type folks who hate organized religion. Shocking that people believe what the...

Re: The problem of evil and the name of the church

Good opinion on the tribune about this: War, famine, disease, global warming, drug epidemics, human trafficking, human rights abuses, Donald Trump, sexual assault (oh, I’m sorry, the last two were redundant) and God picks up the phone and calls Russell Nelson about nicknames. I am fairly certain, Pr...

Re: The Second Sacred Grove

I just read an article by Matthew C. Godfrey in the Journal of Mormon History titled The Second Sacred Grove: The Influence of Greenville Indiana in Joseph Smith's 1932 account . Interesting that Godfrey (currently at BYU, right?) would publish this. Do you know if Journal of Mormon History is bias...

Re: MormonStories #998-999 - Dusty Johns

Dusty and John talk about this in the podcast. It's really interesting... Supposedly the church has backed off in excommunicating individuals who are active in their homosexuality. This is particularly the case for inactive homosexuals - the church is just leaving them alone (this is what John sugge...

Ex-Mormon Discrimination

Just curious, have any of you experienced employment discrimination because you are known publicly as an ex-Mormon? If so, is there much you can do to work with the problem, get around it, mitigate it, whatever..., absent going back to church? I got wind that news of my DW and I leaving the church h...
