The church should pay

https://www.ksl.com/article/46655480/60-people-treated-for-carbon-monoxide-poisoning-after-provo-meetinghouse-leak My DW has a friend who’s family was in the chapel when this happened. The friend recently posted on social media how the incident has caused serious neurological problems for 2 of her a...

Re: Brief Entertainment of Mormon Nostalgia

If you are interested in church, why not tryout some other churches? You don't have to go for truth, just go for the experience. Consider it culture, like visiting an art museum or going to a play. Living in West Virginia, I always stuck me as funny the ideas Utah people get about church out in the...

Re: Update after meeting with counselor

I know it's a process. Does anyone have any suggestions? I guess just keep going slow. The good thing is now she seems to be more open to listening to the other side. She wanted to study come follow me with her about the priesthood recently and I relented. When we were done she said do you have any...

Brief Entertainment of Mormon Nostalgia

My DW and I have been talking about the concept of attending the Mormon community again for the good that can be taken, not at all for the truth. We both value our growing up in the church, but now being informed, see no reason for us or our kids to participate. Anyways, I was a bit nostalgic yester...

Re: Mayan palace at least 1,000 years old uncovered by archeologists in Mexico

The person who came up with the theory pointed out that there was water erosion all over the sphinx, except for the head. I forget his complete argument, but he convinced me that the theory had merit. And I can totally see a vain pharoah having his head/face carved into it. Fascinating! I didn't ge...

Re: Why belief in Satan is comforting

When I was a TBM, I always wondered whether temptation/evil desire originated from the natural man within or externally from SATAN! or one of his minions. Did as much research I could on it back in the day and could not come to a conclusion whether evil originates inside you or without... Seems prob...

Re: Administration of the sacrament

I predict in the historic April 2020 Conference, females will be allowed to assist in some way with the sacrament. My old TBM self asked my McConkie’ite mother about this nearly 8 years ago. There appears to be no scriptural authority against women preparing, blessing, and passing the sacrament. Th...

Another update: I've gone as high as 13mg in edibles, still no effect other than a good night's sleep. I’ve tried edibles only once — about 3.5 decent sized brownies. 3.5 because I wasn’t feeling anything after the first so I went for it. Wow. I was high as a kite very quick. It was a Sat night my ...

Oaks and Reasons for God's Commandments

Just finished listening to RFM's most recent podcast #120. He airs Oaks speaking on reasons behind the priesthood ban, for which Oaks said he sought answers to but never received anything. Oaks then said something to the effect of: "in scripture the Lord rarely gives reasons for his commandments..."...

Re: "Thirst for my blood..."

I remember reading something from BH Roberts where he said the BoM was actually theologically shallow. It certainly didn't have anything about priesthood being essential for salvations,...etc. Anyway,...when I think of black & white reasoning as you mentioned, it also tells me that JS had a level o...

Re: "Thirst for my blood..."

The necessity for black-and-white thinking was set up from the very beginning wasn't it? Was it? I've been on a kick listening to Greg Prince interviews and it seems like there was a switch to fundamentalism after David O. McKay, mainly with Joseph Fielding Smith sparking hard core fundamentalism, ...

Re: Talking around the issues

Going back to the original post, the biggest "talking around the issues" of the $124 billion war chest, is exactly how that war chest was accumulated, and how it's being portrayed in the Mormon media. Many articles from newsroom/church news/desert news tells me that this "rainy day fund" is great f...

Re: CFM - If I could ask them one question this week . . .

Another "not very useful" truth that I like to point out about the witnesses: According to most of the accounts we have, the "golden plates" were never actually used in the "translation" of the Book of MORmON that we have today, only the 116 pages. So... What good are "witnesses" of source material...

Re: Why Priesthood At All?

This is why I wanted to amend my first post from saying that priesthood is something men invented to maintain “power over women” to saying to is something “men invented to maintain authority over women and other men who are lower in the organization.” I saw this inference in what you first wrote al...

Re: History between JS, Rigdon, & Cowdery; BofM and Priesthood

Sidney Rigdon had been "prophecying" to his congregation in Kirtland that a "restoration" was imminent and that a book of scripture was about to come forth that would be instrumental in that restoration of the Gospel. This was some time before he had supposedly met Smith. Wow, this is fascinating P...

Re: CFM - If I could ask them one question this week . . .

Honorable mention I thought I might ask something to get at the reliability of the Three and Eight Witnesses accounts, but I think it's a little more difficult to get your mind around the problems with them. But, if you feel prompted, maybe something like, "If the witnesses are such good evidence, ...

Re: Why Priesthood At All?

While I have a hard time saying that I believe in supernaturalism, I still think there can be value in some of the Mormon priesthood (as a power to serve towards good) activities. While faith healing is dubious at best, a blessing of comfort really can convey comfort for those that want it to. Shar...

Re: On losing your temple recommend

Theoretically, what duplicitous measures would you recommend for a person wishing to retain their Temple recommend for the sake of their spouse? My wife and I were just talking about this yesterday. We both settled on the idea that it's okay to say 'yes' to every question because going to the templ...
