Re: Secret Mormon Meetings of 1922

I have been enjoying this also. My undiagnosed ADD allows me to listen to about 30 minutes at a time, so I'm still in the middle of it, but it's great. Hagoth's comments above remind me of an email from my bishop's councilor that was sent out to our ward members. It was probably written with people...

Re: Polynesians with native american DNA article

I can't believe you don't subscribe to the lost DNA theory. It was in all the papers, or at least a certain essay, and very popular among certain COB/47 E. S. Temple patrons. Lost DNA, lost Book of Abraham scrolls... and yet so many buy into it even after hearing that since the evidence goes agains...

Re: My Interview with Brian Hauglid is Up!

What was the guy to do for a job if he burned all his bridges? ... You go, Brian!! I agree. We have seen how nasty those good church men can be to people who don't play the game properly. I think Hauglid did exactly the right thing. He was working his way through this stuff the whole time. Unlike M...

Re: DW Back To Church

DW wants to get back I think for two reasons 1. She has two dudes coming each week so she can partake of the sacrament and I assume would rather not have to deal with that in front of me 2. She has become somewhat radicalized politically in recent years, and I think she feels like allowing protests ...

Re: Polynesians with native american DNA article

I haven't been online much this week, but I haven't seen this posted by the usual DezNat types who would claim victory for the BoM. Are you seeing people pass this around as proof of the BoM? It reminds me of that (National Geographic?) article about finding human remains in North America but then y...

Re: My Interview with Brian Hauglid is Up!

This is my favorite illustration to show that the church knows Joseph Smith's translations are absolute garbage but just don't have any way out without being caught. They knew that "God sitting upon his throne" is an Egpytian god with an erect penis, but they couldn't leave it out because people not...

Re: My Interview with Brian Hauglid is Up!

I was able to listen while working today - this one is extremely important to understanding the inner workings of church apologetics. I don't think this podcast is "important" to the normal member because a lot of it just goes into how the church whitewashes and 'subterfuges' evidence, but I do thin...

Re: DW Back To Church

Ugh... I'm just waiting for it here in Illinois... the restrictions are much more, but they are thinking of just rotating SM for groups so that people who want to go can go every other week or something. I wonder if your wife will dislike going from two Saturdays to none enough to think about other ...

Re: Brian Hauglid on RFM!

Also, what does he think of Gee saying that facts are like hand grenades that should be kept away from us tiny-brained members, because we can't handle the truth without getting smithereened (my words, not his). And his Packer-like condemnation of teachers who are breaking covenants when they tell ...

Re: Brian Hauglid on RFM!

I am really looking forward to this one - I know Hauglid is still a believer, but i'm wondering how he maintains any belief in the BoA after agreeing to Dan Vogel's deconstruction of how it was produced. And then how do you take that knowledge and not apply it to Joseph's other works be it the Book ...

They're trying to open here... I'm in Illinois which is much stricter than most states, but they just moved to "phase 4" last week where 50 people can be there at once. So in one stake where I know some people who recently left, they sent a survey out to ask their comfort level and what concerns the...

Re: Sunstone Symposium - Dang!

The good news: Bart Ehrman will be the key note speaker. The bad news: It will be online-only. That's kind of good for those of us who don't live in Utah. :D Bart Ehrman is one of the people I want to interview if I do a podcast on Mormonism this fall... although I have to wonder what his fee would...

Re: Bad example

I think of this a lot just from hearing conversations of my in-laws over the last ~20 years of Mormon families vs non-Mormon families. Since I started the deep dive, I know I am a topic of conversation and I can only imagine the thoughts they have of where I'm at. And DW gets really upset if my kid ...

Or realizing your wife wears the exact same underwear as your mom, her mom, her sister, your sister, both grandmas, the lady across the street, and 89% of the ladies in the neighborhood! Nothing weird about that either. That's just depressing. Garments are really one of the worst aspects of the chu...

Re: The word eloheim.

It's been a while since I listened, but I think on the David Bokovoy Mormon Stories on the Old Testament he talks about how they believed in multiple gods and that the wording also implied it in the OT. But as Hagoth says, I think Joseph Smith's issue comes in part from not understanding that the di...

Re: What’s the future of anti-Mormonism look like?

I already see a form of apologetics emerging that tries to turn every "anti-mormon" comment into a strawman argument. That's the way Tad Callister's writings are - he picks these outdated criticisms and then tears them down. I wrote about it a while back because it was so disingenuous - he wrote as...

Re: What’s the future of anti-Mormonism look like?

Then Oaks will become the Prophet we all thought Elder Packer would have been had he lived long enough to ascend to the throne. Oaks will be the hardliner who pushes the progressives out. The next 10 years will be fun to watch from the outside but intolerable for those on the inside trying to make ...

Re: Time for another fast?

There's a 'DezNat' (alt-right LDS) guy on Twitter that my wife follows that had some charts that showed how the 2nd fast flattened the curve... he had it as his pinned tweet and I just noticed that at some point in the last few days that was unpinned. The charts were amazing - I saved a screen...
