Re: Will it be a softer, kinder general conference?

On second thought Nelson probably won't say this. Every other speaker will say it for him. Social distancing will, however, prevent lips from making physical contact with butts. You are correct. That way members could talk about how humble their prophet is while the others giving talks slobber all ...

GenCon predictions? Is the church preparing to ordain women?

I haven't seen a GenCon prediction thread, and interestingly enough in past conferences a lot of the "news" is out by now so it might be a lot of nothing tomorrow... But there's a thread on Mormon reddit about the email to prepare for GenCon asking women to read the D&C about priesthood, which is le...

Re: Will it be a softer, kinder general conference?

I'm half expecting, half hoping that Nelson will say something similar to, "When I said that this conference would be special, I didn't mean like this." and then grin and pause for the General Conference Laughter™ That would really be refreshing. Based on his past performance I kinda expect it to b...

Re: Church membership numbers

The church's #s are like China... they tell you what they are and you just have to take them at face value. They have no transparency and the methodology can change on how they count members and you might never know. Same with finances... missionary counts... whatever. I like looking at the numbers,...

Re: No Book of Mormon, no gathering of Israel???

There is a cruelty to Mormonism that you can't understand until you leave. The forever family teaching is not only paper-thin theology it is scary and hurtful. This is 100% correct. My wife is extremely understanding even though she obviously is all in and on some level thinks I was led astray, but...

Re: Will it be a softer, kinder general conference?

I believe it will be a very bipolar GC. I think there will be speakers who are kinder and gentler and hopeful, and there will also be speakers who are preaching that the end is near and pay your tithing because you do not want to be separated from your family. That way there will be something for ev...

Re: I'm kinda worried about the children of fundamentalists

Yeah... that's a really interesting thought. Lindsey Hansen Park has been sharing on Facebook posts from Mormons that are tying the pandemic to backdating prophecy/etc and that's bad enough, but there are plenty of other religions that are preaching the end of the world stuff too... and now they'll ...

Re: I have passed the garment hurdle

Congrats... it's a huge bandaid to rip off, but I think you did it in a much better way than just trying to not wear them around. When I went back to normal underwear, it was such a weight off of me. It did make me resent the church for making my wife wearing them more as they are possibly the least...

Re: Faith Journey level-up!

I check this board too often to forget... but I hope to get there someday. Or at least to a point when I know it's coming but don't care because it won't impact me whatsoever. If my wife ever opens up, I could walk away in a heartbeat. I'd check in here because this stuff still fascinates me, but I ...

Re: Prophetic hindsight

I was listening today to the recent RFM podcast about backdating prophecy, and it really brings what is happening today home pretty good. If anyone is interested, it's a great podcast that looks at how events both in the Bible and Book of Mormon were clearly written by people who knew about events b...

My blood is boiling - stranded church member with health issues

So last night I see a post from a facebook friend who is not LDS. They were asking friends to share a post about his cousin who is in Russia and was trying to get home, but they went on lockdown and he is stranded. He has asthma and is low on medication, and with the lockdown they are scared he will...

Re: What the church did right:

These are fair... although looking at them with my skeptical eyes: Would argue that 1&2 were very reactive to the spiraling situation, but at least they did it. Both of my nephews on missions right now are not going anywhere, and I know at least for one of them there are no flights in or out, so the...

Re: How about this for a prophesy...

Why bother with prophesies when the members create them retroactively for you? From facebook: Repost: I cannot tell you what a testimony builder this COVID 19 experience has been. Everything our governments are doing is reactive. They are trying to handle the situation as it develops, in varying sta...

Re: Prophetic hindsight

I don't have a ton of TBMs in my social media feed, but the ones that I do have wholeheartedly embraced food storage as prophetic foresight. Even though the church hasn't emphasized it in any real way and even though the church has been behind most corporations/sports/etc in shutting things down. At...

Re: Still in anger stage

I’m still in the anger stage from my faith crisis. I just want to admit it. I’m stuck in this phase because most of my family, both sides, are TBM and I see no light at the end of the tunnel. I want to get to the apathy stage where I just don’t give a hoot. Seems hard to move on without a lot of fa...

Re: Is the church saying or doing anything???

It was fast sunday anyway, right? What a great way to make it seem all the more important. These things just strip away any belief that this church has any divinity to it, and it certainly takes away any belief that they are here to serve people. Instead of opening the investment fund they are just ...

Re: Is the church saying or doing anything???

The least Rusty or his cronies could do is come out with some sort of statement telling their followers to listen to the scientists, doctors, and governmental leaders who are trying to keep people from getting themselves killed by an invisible enemy. Seriously tho… And Rusty is a surgeon, a medical...

Re: #Bringthemissionarieshome

I guess now they're bringing home everyone over 18 months? It's progress... even if they're behind every other corporation, sport, or government at this point. But, yes, they should be home. There is no point in having them isolated for weeks (or months if they really want them to value safety over ...

They should cancel all Sunday meetings too if they are really concerned... as has been mentioned there are a lot of surfaces being touched and a lot of bread being torn apart by hands with unknown histories.
