That's the one right there - the unquestioned obedience is to me the most harmful because IMO it leads to all of those other issues mentioned above.

Re: Families CAN be together forever also means they CAN'T
This is one of the teachings that drives me nuts from the outside looking in because once you think of the inverse it really makes God seem like a monster. But while you're in there you will justify it however you want. I remember asking my wife what she thought about knowing I would not be with her ...

Re: Purpose of the Book of Mormon
You do realize that you're not allowed to the take the church (and it's prophets or scriptures) at their literal meaning, right?

Re: Conspiracy Road Trip: Creationism
Man that clip of the two women and the one says 'then don't be thinking' about what she heard is just so common and so depressing. And I think most of us have experienced both ourselves thinking that way and then others responding that way to us once we take a step away. I can give a few variations ...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!
I looked into my seer stone last night and am making the following prediction: They will double down on garment wearing this weekend at general conference and they will have a woman do it because they want a woman (who is willing to say what the men wan them to say) to try and get the women of the ...

Re: NOMference Spring 2024 Saturday Morning!!!!!
Did I miss any announcement about the 2023 membership statistics? I know they don't read those over the pulpit because there's no time to waste during conference ( ) but I didn't hear anyone directing people to a website. The membership statistics are the most interesting thing about the ...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!
If the church is trying to provide the member with a religious symbol that reminds us of covenants and promises, it could accomplish this in a much different way. The cross is an example. This is it 100000000% The church used to claim they had protective powers and have obviously steered far away ...

Can you provide more details? The article you linked to is pay-walled. Here's the meat of the article: Brace yourselves, nonconforming Latter-day Saint women. Leaders soon will send an updated question to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who want to enter one of the faith ...

The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!
It's been a bit since I've been around, but I have to say if you're trying to push people out of the church, one way to do that is to try and enforce garment wearing 24/7. https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2024/03/29/lds-church-steps-up-this-message/ From Peggy Fletcher Stack, it was brought up at a ...

Re: Born of a virgin?
What's the gist of the podcast? Bart Ehrman goes through how the 'virgin' idea got into the Bible, why it's based on a mistranslation, and then talks a bit about how it's really nowhere else in the Bible and is actually contradicted by Mark/John and I believe he covers briefly that the birth story ...

Re: Born of a virgin?
I had never heard about this until last year when I was listening to a podcast about the Christmas story and it's just mind blowing. Even crazier is that a lot of scholars (Bart Ehrman included) believe that the first two chapters of Luke are late additions which really puts the story in Matthew on ...

Re: Elder Ballard has died
I don't think his legacy is altered whatsoever in the minds of believers... they either ignore the Tim Ballard stuff or excuse it. It certainly does make the church's job a lot easier is deflecting any accusations that might come from the Tim Ballard stuff now. And, no, I am NOT implying that they ...

Re: Elder Ballard gives tithing records to Tim Ballard
Or, as the current evidence suggests, MR Ballard called up big tithe payers and convinced them to give to OUR. M Russell was a fundraiser for the private organization, apparently. Yeah that would fit in there nicely too - Ballard used tithing records to find the marks to raise money for Ballard ...

Re: Elder Ballard gives tithing records to Tim Ballard
Church leaders earned their reputation, whatever that reputation might be. “President Ballard has never released tithing records to Operation Underground Railroad or any other organization,” the church spokesman said. The following could be realities that would still make that statement technically ...
