Re: HOW did Joseph Smith write the BOM?

I put an overview topic together on this and I tried to map out how I think he did it... www.ldsdiscussions.com/authorship My personal thinking is that he used the breaks to map out the next sections and I think he was also reading the Bible as he wrote it and was using phrases from what he read in ...

Re: Dehlin Alternate Reality

I feel like NOM exists from people I've talked to, but it seems to get pushed out just like the 'middle' of politics has been squeezed out in recent years as things have escalated. If you look at Twitter, people who advocate for a middle way/NOM approach (maybe I'm using NOM in a different way here)...

...continued. It really is bizarre that Kwaku was basically bearing his testimony about witchcraft and the occult, and saying that he really believes crystal ball gazers receive true revelation. I hope he continues going down this path. I can't wait to hear about how alien abduction is a priesthood...

Re: Debate night live thread!!!!!!

One of the narratives that you see from the MMs all the time (and in the debate) is that anyone who tells someone the church isn't true needs to replace that person's 'faith' with something else. They did it against RFM, Dehlin, and Reel in their 'homewreckers for hire' podcast last year and then at...

Re: Debate night live thread!!!!!!

I would like to see a debate like this with a panel of independent judges. Theses judges would be there to sound an alarm anytime any side uses a logical fallacy, gets off topic, uses personal attack, or states factually incorrect information. Each side would get a score for how much BS they use in...

Re: Debate night live thread!!!!!!

The few bits I got to see make it clear why church apologists and leaders do not do debates like this. Unless you are already a believer, the responses are absolutely devoid of any actual evidence or substance but continually fall back on emotions and deflections. Even when they tried to rebut on th...

Re: Debate night live thread!!!!!!

I saw things get heated there and the MMs immediately run to the "Your side is burning down our buildings and sneak a porn star into our temples. Your side would be the one with the guns" line they use a lot on their show. It's so stupid because inevitably they just dodge on the issues and then blam...

An interesting way to look at the church's insane finances...

I saw this posted I think by Consig on the discussmormonism board and thought it was worth a thread here. It's a sort of mini presentation about the church's finances and I think it's both well done and easily digestible which are two things that are needed with these kinds of issues. https://widows...

I'm with you!

No need for me to add on to this - it's well spoken and should be the script for fast and testimony meeting tomorrow. :)

And being able to rant like this is what makes NOM great.

A friend who currently teaches religion/history at BYU has offered to do a fireside in our ward. How to reconcile that mo...

Re: New garment survey

I took about 20 screen shots - I just need to get them up somewhere later... I stupidly used wix for ldsdiscussions.com so I am maxed on pages so I would have to delete something to add them.

I'll add them later though - if you showed these to people out of the church this survey would scream cult.

Re: Consistent Logic Not Required

A lot of people say 'cafeteria Mormon' for people who don't obey the rules 100%, but it applies to the way we approach critical thinking too. I know I've mentioned this before, but when I was visiting my in-laws on their senior mission they were going on about how Elizabeth Warren was a fraud becaus...

I feel awful for them. Imagine spending $500 a month to basically stalk community groups on Facebook to try and get someone to connect with you. They're selling a product that is just not wanted by almost anyone and they're giving up two of the prime years of their lives (and thousands of hard earne...

Re: Debate night: RFM vs Midnight Mormoms

These guys sound like self-appointed, modern day versions of the Danites. They just don't have contact with upper echelons of the church or the guts to actually kill the opposition. The best these weenies can do is try to make fun of you. Their parents should be proud. That sums it up pretty...

Will there also be a live audience? It would be fun to attend.
Hagoth - as an update to earlier, RFM said in their podcast last night that it will absolutely be open to the public so if you can go by all means check it out so you can return and report. :D
