Re: Spiritual experience at Longhorn Steakhouse

We went to Texas Roadhouse a few weeks ago and when those rolls with the apple butter came in... I knew that those rolls had the spirit baked into them.

Seriously - I love those rolls almost as much as I like the steak, and I love steak.

Re: I will try NOT to FIX you

When it comes to LGBTQ stuff, it's true that if you remove marriage then acceptance would come so much quicker. On Twitter whenever I post something about acceptance of same-sex marriage I immediately get replies of 'If the world throws away God's laws for the world, then what's left?" And I'm mostl...

Re: Problems interacting with normal people as a family...

It is super awkward, those mixed tribe situations with mixed faith marriages. There's no easy answer here. So you make excuses as to why you can't get together and life moves on, but there might be another approach to try. "Guys, look, I'd probably be into beer, but I'm in a mixed faith marriage. T...

Saturday evening General Conference is canceled

The church has officially canceled the Saturday evening session of General Conference... apparently they realize they have nothing new to say and taking two hours will help lessen the burden of filling the time. https://ksltv.com/463814/church-discontinuing-saturday-evening-sessions-of-general-confe...

Re: Problems interacting with normal people as a family...

Yeah there's just no way to have this conversation that doesn't end poorly... and it's really frustrating because these are super nice people and I'm stuck in this rut where I can't really invite my wife to come with or it's so awkward it's not worth it, or I do invite her and have her mad at me for...

Problems interacting with normal people as a family...

Our kid is on a youth baseball team and I've been coaching with two others this season and we got together a few weeks ago to go over lineups, positions, etc as the league transitions kids during the year to be ready for little league next year along with just hanging out since we've been coaching b...

Re: Witness film. Got your tickets?

And not to be a jerk, but getting the movie in 350 theaters is extremely cheap and easy right now given that there are only a few new movies currently in theaters and they'd be happy to take anything that could bring in some foot traffic.

Re: Witness film. Got your tickets?

This feels like one of those releases that will be seen by the diehards but talked about by everyone for a short period before it's forgotten. The trailer makes it look like it will address some of the problems with the stories (it looks like they have clips of historians/apologists talking), but I ...

Re: One Month Down. 59 To Go.

I love these updates - please keep them up if it helps you process and remember your time as bishop! I am amazed at how many members there are that don't believe. There are very few Mormons around here, and yet I have made friends with 4 people who have recently left - mostly because they found each...

Re: An alternate perspective on marriage

Welcome to NOM, Zeezrom! I hope you stick around - it's a fun little group which I suppose you know since you've lurked before. You make some great points and that's something I have definitely thought about as I've tried to talk to my wife about church stuff. i guess on some level if she left...

Re: Angeles and Plates

I heard someplace if you can make Angles and Gold Plates work everything else comes naturally. Makes sense that belief in one supernatural event opens your your brain to all sorts of other zany ideas. Its like being a conspiracy theorist, you see them everywhere. I've seen this argument used by apo...

Re: No more “time only” temple weddings

As much as I hate the temple, this feels like a step backwards to me. Instead of saying that both men and women can be sealed to more than one person, they said that previously sealed women who want to get remarried (and DO value the temple) aren't even able to hold their second wedding in the temp...

Re: No more “time only” temple weddings

I think this is just to start making the transition to making the temple about eternity only weddings. They already have to have civil weddings first in some countries, and there will be a point here where there will be laws against discriminating against LGBT weddings, so I assume this is getting p...

Re: Anyone else feel trapped?

I feel trapped in the sense that I left ~15 years ago but was too afraid to even look until 3 years ago... so I carry a lot of baggage because of fear from both my wife and her family. They moved across the country because my wife and I were dating and I didn't join the church (and she didn't go to ...

Re: Anyone else feel trapped?

Yep. When I stopped going I felt that weight pretty quickly, and I think DW wearing garments was that daily reminder that even though I got out, it was still going to be with me forever. I don't think it ends until it does, which for some of us will be eventually if the believing spouse has that mom...

Re: Gay Mormon student sent death threats after being labelled ‘anti-Christ’ by professor

I have no doubt you are correct - and even suspect some of the Brethren privately sympathize with DezNat. This is just one of many moral and leadership failings of the Brethren, so in that sense their non-response to DezNat is entirely predictable. You can generally count on them to not do the righ...

Re: Gay Mormon student sent death threats after being labelled ‘anti-Christ’ by professor

The 'DezNat' stuff is IMO more of a byproduct of the radicalization in politics, but the church realizes just as political parties do that the most insane believers are also the most loyal. They don't want to anger the DezNat crowd for the same reason that political parties won't stand up to the fri...

Re: Official church stance ?

Does anyone know what the official church stance is if one partner (married and also in the temple) leaves the church ? I think I read somewhere the TBM partner is supposed to stay in the marriage if possible ? Need some help please. I don't think there is an "official" stance on that, but the rece...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?

She wants me to wear garments most of the time. If it were up to me I wouldn't especially at work. So if she knew I was taking my garment top off at work even though it gets too hot, she would probably have a problem with it. When I stopped going to church this was the first (and really only) chang...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?

Honestly, and I say this with the benefit of looking back 15 years later, but if I could have a do over I would have chose divorced over trying to make a mixed faith marriage work. I simply say this because then I would have had the benefit of 15 years completely out of the church. Staying married ...
