Re: United States election discussion
He will no doubt continue his pattern of seizing women by their secrets without waiting. I suspect that he'll devote most of his time looking after his businesses, and delegate most of the work inherent in the presidency to "most powerful VP ever" and notorious homophobe Mike Pence. He will probably...

Re: United States election discussion
I reiterate what I said before: Undirected rebellion is very bad, because if you succeed in "breaking the system", you have no idea what to replace it with. There will always be selfish and malicious people who do know what they want to replace it with, and the new system, being constructed by the s...

Re: God is with us??
I like to think God is with everyone and for everyone. Then he must have been with and for both the Union and the Confederacy during the American Civil War, as both sides made appeals to him. For both the Nazis and the Jews whom they persecuted. More generally, for both the persecutors and the pers...

What an atheist to have elected then. A particularly repellent atheist.Corsair wrote:Honestly, the United States may have just elected its first agnostic atheist or at least apathetic atheist into the Oval Office.

When will old people quit whining about their children? Honestly, it makes you look more infantile than you accuse us of being.

Indeed, and the religious authorities were all too happy to indulge the same if they thought they could thereby inspire fear and respect.deacon blues wrote:It's interesting that jealousy and greed led to Liszinski's trial and execution.

Re: Life After
When bad things happen to me, I still find myself lapsing into infantile superstition, wondering whether it's God's punishment. Then I come to my senses and realise that it's only infantile superstition and fear of my own imagination.

Casimir Liszinski
I looked this person up yesterday during down-time. Casimir Liszinski was a seventeenth-century Polish nobleman who was executed in a horrid manner for atheism in 1689. He became an atheist after reading a book of arguments for the existence of God that was full of contradictions, mockingly writing ...

Withdrew from a religion class
One of my religion professors (I was foolish enough to enrol in two religion classes this semester) had said some dumb and awful things, which I don't dare to challenge, because BYU. This, together with my generally poor academic performance this semester, has inspired me to withdraw from that class...

Agree for the BoM and the BoA. I would also add JS-M and the Book of Moses, and at least the first few books of the Old Testament. I would reword it for the D&C, however, because Joe Smith actually existed.

You do have to wonder what could be justified under this system though, if it were to actually govern as a state. Oh, I don't know - I think Utah under Brigham Young showed us where it would go! fh451 How about being a current BYU student under the Honor Code rules? I think we know how Mormons gove...

Re: Do you drink coffee?
Let's mix it up a bit. Let's say one of the people is a Muslim, and the mom comes over and says she wants to put a team BBQ together and have some pulled pork sandwiches. How would you expect the Muslim person to react? Wouldn't it seem perfectly reasonable for the Muslim person to point out that h...
