Four-year seminary graduation required for foreign missions
Another board brought to my attention that graduation from seminary is required for anyone to be considered for a foreign mission. Does anyone know more about this protocol? It doesn't surprise me, but I wonder how members feel about that. When I was active, it was usually stressed that foreign miss...

Re: The other board
I have been watching the back and forth drama between that board and mormon dialogue and discussion (had a different name a long time ago) for more than 7 years. It goes back into the 2000s actually. Daniel Peterson posted on the old fair board, and he was a noted apologist. Then, Dr. Scratch came a...

Re: Who said it?
The quote is "“Now, sisters (not women), while your input is significant and welcome in effective councils (not meetings), you need to be careful not to assume a role that is not yours.” I totally forgot his name was M. Russell Ballard. I have been out for years. I think I thought it was Russell M. ...

Re: Who said it?
I’ll try one. I am fudging with the quote a bit to make it not so obvious though. I can put up the true quote if anyone cares (I substituted 2 words). “Now, women, while your input is significant and welcome in effective meetings, you need to be careful not to assume a role that is not yours.” A) Do...

Does anyone know more about the women age cap at 39? ...

Re: Areas where science has forced the church to change their story/approach/whatever?
I debated adding oral sex and birth control to the list, but decided not to because the changes were probably more member driven. However, I think some science was definitely involved to some degree in the church's softening to a "it's between the couple" policy now.

Re: Areas where science has forced the church to change their story/approach/whatever?
Evolution, to a certain extent. “The Church has no official position on the theory of evolution. Organic evolution, or changes to species’ inherited traits over time, is a matter for scientific study. Nothing has been revealed concerning evolution. Though the details of what happened on earth before...

Hagoth, thanks for alerting me to the Bossard pictures. I had never heard of him or them, and I just read about them at the link below. https://dialoguejournal.com/wp-content/uploads/sbi/articles/Dialogue_V29N03_9.pdf Of note--there were spittoons in Bossards's pictures of the SLC temple interior th...

Re: Stop telling the sick and dying to have faith, it isn't helping
I am very sorry for your aunt and your family. It is very painful to watch someone suffer in pain for years and wish for death. I watched my father-in-law go through this for 7 years. He received blessings and prayers. I hoped that they would bring him comfort, but I don't know if they did through t...

Re: Latest RFM Podcast Second Best in History?
I took Kent Jackson's Pearl of Great Price class in the 90s. I don't remember a lot of what was taught then, but when I learned about the different First Vision accounts by reading Rough Stone Rolling and other sources a decade later, I felt like I hadn't heard or read a lot of the information befor...

Re: Primary Misinformation about Mary Fielding Smith
This is such an astonishingly terrible story for one additional reason. Wasn't "taking care of widows" one the primary excuses for plural marriage? This is not just any widow. It's the widow of Hyrum Smith who stayed way more faithful than Emma Smith. This story reminded me a bit about the Heber J....

Re: Does anyone have examples of a GA being a bully?
I remember one instance from years ago back when I first stopped attending. Bednar revoked an apostolic blessing. There was a blog post that supported this account in addition to this forum's version, but I can't find it any longer. It got me searching for other priggish behavior by Bednar. There ar...
