Re: Question about the Pious Fraud Idea

Really the thing that JS was good at was being able to use persecution to grow membership he used the logical fallacy. Prophets are prosecuted. I am persecuted therefore I am a prophet. The Mob did us no favors by making him a martyr because then BY used that same fallacy now with a martyr to grow t...

Re: Why do leaders preach mostly feel good stuff?

I think it comes down to what the gospel means it literally translates to the good news. It's what you will never learn in Mormonism is that Christ died for you and saved you from your sins and it's not after all you can do it's in spite of what you can do

If you received the most powerful spiritual witness in your life, and that witness told you that the church was not true, would you believe it?

I'm so sorry they weren't supportive. MIL yes- She said that if that's what god is telling us to do then she supports it, and loves us all the same. She was a little underhanded saying that she hopes it leads us back lol FIL no- He was a drama king telling us how we just made his life worthless and...

UPDATE

So I reached out to my niece who is pagan for tips on how to reach out to my family about my choice. She says she will keep it secret. Then I get this text from my father: "I understand you think you have a new calling from God. You need to really think about where you are getting your revelation. I...

What Happens when you tell the In-laws that your family is no more

I have shared with this group my wife decided to join me and become Christian. This weekend she decided to tell her parents about our decision. Were they understanding?: MIL yes- She said that if that's what god is telling us to do then she supports it, and loves us all the same. She was a little un...

Re: New Calling

I think a lot depends on where you see yourself with God and/or Christianity. Some people go through a faith transition and lose their belief in God such that they no longer consider themselves Christian. For those people, I think any sort of a teaching calling in the mormon church would be very ha...

Re: Success is possible

FYI: Overgeneralizing discounts other people's experiences. Hence the apology Fluff. Can't help but comment on everything huh? I get being skeptical, but you need to learn to live and let live or you are being just as controlling as the Q15 I don't see where you apologized for overgeneralizing. You...

Re: Success is possible

Honestly, I was probably overgeneralizing I don't care about those who don't believe. That is fine its comments like have you investigated Islam to see if you can find spiritual experiences. It discounts my own experiences and I don't think the attack is needed it reminds me of FAIRs Ad hominem Att...

Re: Success is possible

In my experience, a lot of people lose faith in it all when they leave Mormonism. The reason for this IMHO is that their relationship with God is tied to the religion it's not its own thing. So, when they lose their faith in the religion they lose faith in God as well. Also, it doesn't help that th...

Re: Success is possible

Honest question - After deconstructing Mormonism and losing faith, how did you stop short of deconstructing Christianity? I have had experiences in my life that have made me Christian regardless of Mormonism. I always felt Mormonism was a middleman in my relationship with God. I essentially got rid...

Success is possible

I post here a post of home for those who are waiting for their DH/DW to see the light. Last night my wife told me "Hey I have made my decision" *my heart sinks* We have been here before and had to be a mixed faith marriage. She then proceeds "The Transition will be hard, but I have decided to follow...

Re: The Waiting Game

My dad agreed to discuss some of the more difficult parts of church history with me. I’m hoping to gain some insight into the way he sees things, and hopefully it will help me better navigate some of the rougher parts of his personality. I’m hoping it will also create more compassion in his relatio...

Re: How do you respond when...

Funniest thing I have seen lately with something like this I was in a business and two employees were talking. Out of nowhere one of them just asked the other Are you Mormon? Which she replied "Not Usually" it made me laugh and left the guy who asked speechless
