Re: Loyal Christian's hanging onto mormonism

If there is such a thing as a loving God, seems like they would be no respecter of persons or organizations or books, giving the same resources to everyone through all time (ie - everyone has a conscience, that is all you need?). As nice as it is to belong to a group, I just cannot see any one group...

Re: Bob McCue: The Church is like a Narcotic

In a conversation with Corsair last night he mentioned Bob McCue, a name I hadn’t thought about for awhile now. For those that don't know, Bob McCue’s experience leaving the church played out back around the same time my faith crisis started. Bob’s writings were excellent and helped me to see the p...

Re: Brant Gardner Gave the "Ancient" Bias Game Away on the BofM

I suspect JS copied/modified the Spalding book, combined with KJV over a rather long time period, then took his manuscript, put it in his hat, and read to people - not from a seer stone, but straight off his copied manuscript that he had hiding in his hat. How likely of a scenario would this be? Hav...

Re: A one-liner that captures your disaffection

Heirarchy with middlemen vs. God is no respecter of persons.

Dogmatic mob mentality vs personal relashionship with God.

Follow the leader, vs follow your conscience.

Re: If you aren't doing conference, what are you doing?

Yesterday went to the history museum for a new Lego's exhibit, DD volunteered all day at a pollinator fest at our local botanic garden, so met her there (new Muslim friend!), finished the day out with Astronomy festival - looked at Saturn, Jupiter, the Hubble came by, moon - perfect weather. Today, ...

Re: the Dark Night of the Soul

So update - I was able to bring the whole family to a UU service this morning (because of GC, they did not have to be at the church for anything, so were free). Started the morning talking DH into changing out of his suit. - "They do not wear suit and ties at the UU church, people go in jeans and t-...

Re: the Dark Night of the Soul

God is either a lie or a liar, and this Universe is a sadistic puppet-show, where no truth can be found and that offers nothing but a temporary, painful, and meaningless existence; we are left in the midst of a world of selfish people all wearing smiling masks and popping chemicals. This is a false...

.... the legacy you leave your children. ... I'm worried about the kids so much in all of this - they are teenagers which is a hard enough age already. I keep trying to convince myself there is good in the church - and there is, that is why I joined it in the first place. It is hard to tear the kid...

... I mean, does anyone really expect their spouse to stay the same their entire life? ... I have told others - I have not changed. My values are the same - I seek health and happiness for my family and myself, I seek love, peace, justice, mercy - I believe in hard work, I value honesty - these are...

Re: the Dark Night of the Soul

Existential crisis is a stressful time. I prefer to call it that rather than a faith crisis because for some, there is more loss than just the church narrative. Your whole concept of reality is in question. "Existential crisis" is a better description of it. Yes... more excerpts from notes going be...

Re: the Dark Night of the Soul

I have suggested a UU church as a healthy place for community, ... No matter what you decide, it would be enriching for the family to see what others believe and how they worship. So today I did attend a UU service, which I very much appreciated. One kid stayed home, the rest attended TSCC (mission...

Re: the Dark Night of the Soul

Thanks so much for the replies. It's so hard, I wanted someone to jump in and take the pain away, or just talk to so much too. You realize there are no answers, there is nothing anyone can do to put things back again, realize you're on your own with no real guidance for anything... it is scary until...

Re: Resume fun

That is hard when people are so wrapped up in the church that they have nothing else to help define themselves or be a part of. In one sense it would be good to give them a job not associated with the church so they can broaden themselves a little... but if their world view is so warped and limited ...

I just caught up on this thread - so sorry you're experiencing the whiplash here. I do like Alas' idea to bring it up and ask if it was just an angry outburst or something deeper, because while it's important to set boundaries it's also important (and in my opinion more difficult) to get honest exp...

Re: Kids in MFM

I've been trying to figure this out since the thread started, but I'm missing something. What does "MFM" stand for? Mixed-faith marriage, I believe, but someone can correct this if wrong. This is a tough situation, Angel. In many ways, I'm glad my kids were a lot older when I went through my faith ...
