Re: Mental and Emotional Exhaustion
I was the 1st out of the church in our marriage. Some dark stuff with abuse of kids by brother-in-law, and DH had a few issues that I kicked him out of the house for. I was prepared for divorce, am able to support myself and kids - have a really good job and work community that has been my salvation...

Re: Estrangement
Thanks..."he" is incarcerated, pending trial. Unfortunately there's more now, more perpetrators we've become aware of, more higher level (highest level?) cover ups, and Spouseman holding the line has turned overt aggression on him from people with everything to lose and a long history of getting th...

Re: Estrangement
In anticipation of upcoming gatherings, and with a little help, this list was developed: how to diffuse conflict: #1 show love, #2 divert conversation to something non-confrontational about them, people enjoy talking about themselves. What projects they are working on, how great their kids are, how ...

Re: RFM and Peter Bleakley
He ... wants to fix the church rather than defend its bad behavior, so I'm sure he will be excommunicated soon. Yup, that is the first phase of leaving - the false hope the church can be changed from within. I do attribute quite a few of the new policies in place to people like Sam Young bringing i...

Re: Don't believe in the prosperity gospel? What if we give you COOKIES
Many members were shocked about the $100 billion dollar investment fund that never gives to charity. Just as shocking were the many justifications/excuses as to why the Church had this secret fund hidden even from the apostles. When poop comes out the apologists exclaim what a delightful aroma. :? ...

We paid tithing and served in callings and went to the temple and said "how high" any time we were told to jump, for YEARS, and our family has suffered setback after setback after setback. Perhaps you, like mother Teresa, was not doing the work with an eye single to God? It just ear-tags you as som...

...your wife gives you worldly boxer briefs for Christmas. :D Congratulations Hagoth!! I got fancy loose-leaf tea, and a Terot card deck & crystal ball to go with my gypsy ren-fest outfit. Also, some bike gear for our Sunday bike rides. This was my 2nd Christmas out - asked the fam if they wanted t...

Re: The irony of being blacklisted
My thoughts too. I've never been the type to "unfriend" anyone over politics or religious views, I like to hear diverse viewpoints so do not shut people out.
I am slowly learning what healthy boundaries are though...

Re: "Religion as a placebo" Metaphor
Someone on Reddit recommend reading the Buddhist parable of the raft. This short parable has been really helpful for me. https://www.google.com/amp/s/tricycle.org/trikedaily/buddhist-parable-of-the-raft/amp/ I think religion is a metaphor, but I don’t think it is a placebo. A placebo is something g...

Re: #givethanks
Was there a request by President Nelson or other Church leaders to do a mass gratitude campaign? If so, did they have specific suggestions on how to not make it sound cult-like? Sadly, now there will be no genuine gratitude posts, only forced obedient ramiumptum posts... ... to be seen of men... I'...

Fellow passengers.I listened to the message from Nelson. I thought it was rather good. It seemed to be a message of Hope and gratitude. It seemed to be free of most of the Mormonisms that annoy so many of us. It was a fairly mainstream Christian message, which seems to be a place where Mormonism is...

So.... do they like Trump because he is republican? or do they dislike Trump because he infringed on everyone's religious freedom? (or do they somehow disconnect the fact that Trump was president when all the religious liberties were taken away?)

Re: Maybe it’d be nice if everyone posted a very short intro who they are
Eventually, I found the Truth about God, in the Roman Catholic Church. I'm in RCIA now. (RCIA = Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) A good chunk of my family is Catholic, really fun and diverse people. I think everyone gets spooked because Catholics also claim to have genuine "authority" which...

Thank you!! Chatting with someone else who had recently left and was still in the dark stages of it all... I did not want to go back there, but knew it might be helpful to them if I let my mind remember what it was like.... Part of me wants to get out of all the ex-mo groups, never admit having ever...

Re: Prayer Why Bother
I don't know what I believe any more, or who / if god exists etc. To me, if god exists, and appears to be silent, I guess that means we are supposed to take ownership and responsibility for ourselves, rather than relying on god. so... live without desires, "not my will but thine" be done. Accept whe...

Re: Prayer Why Bother
Back in college, I took an Intro to World Religions class. One thing I remember from the section on Buddhism is that Buddhist will pray as part of their religion. That always confused me. If prayer is a supplication to the higher power of the universe, and Buddhism is a religion of reincarnation, n...

Conversation was short and simple with the hubby, he is out too (just not formally resigned).
I feel at peace, lucky this transition is going smoothly.

Re: Just a reminder - you are better off without "Families are Forever"
Reward/punishment motivational systems inherantly cater to selfish/lower survival instincts. The more noble/higher motivational reasoning comes not from reward/punishment, but a pure love of goodness and progression. The difference between those disciples who followed Jesus because they wanted free ...
