Re: My chance to speak on Easter

I would just stick with scriptures from the Bible. Talk about the garden tomb in Jerusalem - how neat it is that you can actually see where these events took place (unlike anything in the BOM  ) I like to use the BLB - look at original words, and different translations: https://www.blueletterbi...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

Strange - the Catholics claim infallibility - Petrine supremacy of the pope, and yet no Catholic I have ever talked with believes their church or pope to be perfect...

Mormons do not claim the prophet or the church are perfect.... and yet... the culture acts like they are??

Re: on being outside

My parents did not attend my temple marriage (they were never members), and now I might not attend my children's marriage. I guess you could see it as part of letting go, letting them start a new life without you. Words over an alter and a pretty dress are not what create a marriage. Marriage is the...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

What do you think, how far would a simple apology go? ...It would take a while to make up for that, and even then, would trust actually be restored? What if they did not ask for your trust - but instead used their faults to promote individual agency and beliefs? I'm on the fence because of family (...

Re: What was your first NOM thought?

A homeless girl came to church asking for help - and our bishop at the time told me "people like that, I give them $50, and send them on their way". It shocked me that they were unwilling to really help... (The homeless girl ended up staying with me for almost a year... she is ok now, but it was due...

If the church were to admit and apologize...

I was thinking about forgiveness, and the repentance process. I recently suggested to our stake president that the church is not perfect and should go through the repentance process just as its members are asked to. ... the church is kind of like a marriage - if there is dishonesty etc., if everyone...

Re: Dr. Laura gives advice to mormon couple

I'm not sure if I agree with "no details of why I left" idea. Different families have different dynamics, and there are kind vs. confrontational ways of sharing things... Why not - "I can share why I left with you, but know it would involve delving into subjects you might find painful. If you would ...

WW Devo for YA Help

Long story short - mixed faith marriage, kids in the church, I am supposed to 'help' them study for their upcoming lesson from: https://www.lds.org/study/broadcasts/worldwide-devotional-for-young-adults/2018/06/hope-of-israel?lang=eng I would like to send them the *full* lesson, and was hoping you c...

Re: Need Advice - Potential Visit from a Seventy

I would conditionally attend - on the condition they agree to allow the mtg to be recorded. Let them know you represent a group of inactive members (us) who are all interested in what a mtg like this looks like. If they are truly interested in helping inactives who all have very similar concerns, th...

Sounds like you need a support group - if your spouse is struggling too, that might be good to do some kind of group together. What city do you live near? Maybe someone here can help with local resources for you?

Re: Ruined relationships

I feel your pain - I'm in a mixed-faith marriage with kids as well, and have also been given the lecture about "not keeping my covenants". Keeping covenants??!!?? I had no idea what covenants I would be asked to make in the temple, if I had known the polygamous nature of the "new and everlasting cov...

Re: How to Reconcile LDS Doubts

It’s not a possibility to me personally because the Holy Ghost did strongly testify of this truth. I can not deny this testimony. My Eternal Progression depends on it. I just found this forum today. You sound JW to me? Yes, a lot of people here have felt the spirit, and yet here we are... Funny thi...

Re: What did Jesus look like?

didn't really have a response to that because it stirred up a bad past memory of an encounter I had with a born again Christian who hammered me with the "You Mormons think that God had sex with Mary." That was a WTF moment. If you have not seen this, you need to. The Mary part is a gem. https://www...

No, we didn’t give it to everybody, but we probably should have. Having known the youth leaders for so long, they were already following the two-deep policy. I’d actually been in YM before I was the EQP and they wouldn’t even give rides to kids without another person in the car with them. We emaile...

Merry Christmas Moksha!! OK - one good Christmas story deserves another - pull the little ones up round the Tannenbaum, light the fire - ... Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a mighty hunter whose name was Nimrod. Nimrod (and his mother - who was also his wife - whose name was Semiramis) ...

Re: Feeling anxious about new YM/YW announcement

We had to deal with this recently too. Not because of the age change obviously, but because I have a 13 yo daughter. We told her previously that she was not to be alone with any adult that isn't a parent. When she was offered a blessing she "forgot" and mom found her in a church classroom (at least...
