Re: Who wants a Christian "Sharia" society?

I'm reminded of the movie Cool Hand Luke (1967) - The Captain's speech " What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it. . . well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men." Let me try to com...

Re: Communication skills

I have been thinking about what to tell Angel about not trusting feelings. This is really quite common in the mental health world. The cure for it depends on the reason for it. Some people take it so far they stop having feelings and become kind of like Mr. Spock. They operate as much as possible f...

Re: Communication skills

Boundaries - in NYC everyone learns to live in a crowd, limited personal space, rushed life, limited resources. NY'ers don't use fuzzy words like "please respect my boundaries". They say "No" haha. Direct, clear, you make deals with people, its businesses - this for that - consequences for actions. ...

Re: Communication skills

Back to the idea of feelings telling us stuff. First point is that like logic, emotions are only as accurate as the information they are based on. So, garbage in, garbage out. The trigger may not be accurately interpreted. Or, you may have some faulty beliefs that lead to faulty feelings. Now, some...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

I just had someone from old ward reach out to me for help - I connected them with support services in area. (my school serves low income/ immigrants etc so I'm in the loop of where to go for what).

There are amazing groups out there.

The church isn't one of them.

Re: Since we don’t have moderators

there is a great story on not ruminating on past pain - knowing to drop the feelings - when the fight is over, let it be over, reliving it, emotional pain does nothing to help. "This pain isn't real", nothing is currently wrong, I don't need to be triggered right now etc. I've learned to pull mysel...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

I have also seen TBM member do things that helped. One friend knew a woman was in an abusive marriage. The elder’s quorum told the men not to help her move out f the house as she was going against the bishop’s advice to stay with her temple marriage. He was the only man who showed up to help her ge...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

Angel, you said members won't go outside the box to help a child? I did. When I was still a TBM I observed a man physically abusing a child alone in a classroom during sacrament mtg. I got in his face and told him to stop immediately. I told him he knew that was wrong. He didn't argue. I called CPS...

Re: Since we don’t have moderators

Hey, your feelings were not lies, just based on incorrect information. So, rather than distrusting your feelings, just keep searching for the best most accurate information. They were lies: Everything I felt good about, feelings of trust, feelings of comfort, love, safety - that "warm fuzzy" holy s...

Re: Since we don’t have moderators

Great topic. I do think I'm now on the spectrum - comfortably numb - no feelings. I found my past feelings to be completely false, false trust, false beliefs, false security - my feelings didn't protect, were based on lies, so I have no respect for feelings. In Tuchkman team formation stages, the s...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

Brainwashing is real. Cognitive dissonance is real. It's impossible to communicate with the brainwashed.

"The spirit" isn't from "God". God isn't real.

Empty boats. All of it, empty.

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

All abuse is awful. I guess we have to keep saying that. There is no excuse for violence. The church is a corporation. That is a fact. The members are patrons and volunteers who make up a portion of the staff. Some folks are often described as part of a "lay clergy." Other members are also employee...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

Whether or not I can or can't find case evidence of what the church does or did or does not do - does not validate calling all the members part of a herd. Some folks are awful. Some are complicit in awful things. Most people are not. There seems to be a disconnect in what a person named Jane or Jim...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

Neither is my Mum a sheep. Thanks. You have some great points, Angel. Sometimes though, the same conclusions or circumstances are not universal. Name a court case where a bishop, or RS president or any church official testified against a pedophile high priest to protect a child. Unless you can prov...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

From Jim Jones to Heavens gate, none would reply they were slaves, none believed they were brainwashed. All the offshoot polygamous groups, Warren Jeffs, to all the fundamentalist groups - apple doesn't fall far from the tree. No one in a cult thinks they are a slave. I get it. I didn't think I was ...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

My Mum would not describe herself as a slave. When I was TBM I wouldn't have described myself as a slave either. If you don't move, you can't feel the chains. It's not until you get that phone call from the detective... and then try to get help from those in the church.... that you realize... the c...

Re: How do you define Mormonism?

Many women do view Mormonism as slavery. Eternal polygamy - eternal adultery, nothing to look forward to, hell on earth and hell in heaven. Not proud of women who stayed married to pedophiles, who allowed their own kids to be abused.. then grandchildren to be abused. Not proud of those who forced th...
