Re: Has Elder Uchtdorf lost his Mojo?
IIRC, his current assignment is on the Missionary Committee, the corporate marketing arm of the church. At that level you have access to the real numbers and know just how poorly things are going. But unlike being the most functional member of the FP, you no longer have the bully pulpit you need to...

Re: Tithing
I haven't paid tithing in years because my wife paid 10% and I figured that was enough for the both of us. She still has urges to pay tithing even though she has started to distance herself from the church and only attends occasionally now. We'll see how it goes for her. We talked about alternatives...

Re: Has Elder Uchtdorf lost his Mojo?
I voted that he's church broke just like everyone else, and he's clearly been demoted and pushed in the shadows but he's still my favorite for his previous body of work. Yes he's church broke but he did some good work while in the FP.

Re: Where Will You Go?
I was discussing my faith crisis with my pretty understanding TBM mom the other day and I was trying to express the difficulty of being an all-in TBM and then finding out it wasn't true. I even blurted, "Where was I supposed to go?", without realizing what I was saying. Clearly very similar to Elde...

Re: The anxious Mormon voice in your head
Yeah, that's a great post RR. Makes it really clear. It's a HIGH DEMAND religion. We went to church this past week and then we had an LDS funeral. It has become so clear to me how bored I was in Sacrament Meetings. I don't think I could admit it to myself until recently. It was always work for me ju...

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU
In a way, I'm glad this talk was given. E. Holland basically spilled the beans and provided a window into the thinking of the top leaders right now. There can be absolutely no doubt whatsoever where the leadership of the church is at and where it is headed in the near future on LGBTQ+ issues and tha...

Re: I have passed the garment hurdle
Congratulations! It's fantastic! I never thought my wife would get rid of hers but she has since 3-4 months ago. Congrats Stealth! You’ve waited patiently for this day to come. I’m still dreaming about the day Sister Ryder ditches her britches. I REALLY hope it happens for you two. I never thought ...

Re: Allowing TBM's to save face.
I think in some interactions with TBM's when they get irrational in discussions/debates it is a good idea to let them save face. “Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across.” Sun Tzu There is merit in giving a defeated enemy an honorable retreat rather than destroying every remaining uni...

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU
What a god-awful talk. I guess I should thank him because it is part of why my wife has now felt like it is the right thing for her to have gone inactive which I NEVER thought would EVER happen. We both have separated ourselves from the church as of 3-4 months ago (although two of our three childre...

Re: Casting out evil spirits?
I don't really believe in evil spirits anymore. Certainly not anything to the degree that could actually cause problems for a human being if any do actually exist. That said, human beings say and do all kinds of things that relieve suffering. Some practices have been around for thousands of years. R...

Re: Mormon church pays $250 million in Boy Scout settlement
It's so sickening what has happened. While the church was spending all their might, mind, energy, strength and $$$$$ attacking LGBTQIA+ people they allowed child abuse to occur in their care and midst. They even framed them as the one's we should be worried about. It's so sad.

Re: Who thinks they're going to the CK?
It's difficult to remember what I thought about the CK. I didn't think too much about the afterlife. I was more into what was happening in the here and now. I never have really feared death. I did hope to still be connected with my wife and family and I thought of the CK as more of a big tent rather...
My Update
Hey everyone, Some of you know me and others don’t. I thought I’d give an update. My wife was moderately orthodox up until maybe 5 months ago. I had basically dug in for the long haul expecting to try to make it work as best as I could. I had been teaching GD for about 3-4 years. I enjoyed it. With ...

I feel for you. I was called as the BP for my ward almost 14 years ago. It's rough. Glad you're at NOM. I got a lot of support from here.

Re: I have passed the garment hurdle
Because of home church bringing up some uncomfortable discussion content, I took the opportunity to have a crucial conversation regarding garment wear and it actually facilitated a less emotionally charged transition than if I had just stopped wearing them without discussion. So far I'm on 2 days a...

The church website has a link to this thing it calls the "Become Experience" - https://become.comeuntochrist.org/ It allows you to click on a single simple topic that will help you start on a spiritual journey. The longest of the topics is "Dealing with disappointment", which is a very important to...

Re: Feeling sorry for TBM's.
I feel bad for them too. They are stuck in such a unhealthy system and don't realize how crazy some of it is. I wonder how prevalent of a belief is it that the Earth is 6,000 years old. I had hoped that would have gotten better but maybe it's worse!!?

Re: Behold! The Fruits of E Oaks' Oct 2018 Talk Begin to Ripen!
For the record, I am a free speech advocate. I obviously believe in the 1st Amendment. It gives us the right to do what we do here on the NOM board. However, there are some limits on it. You can't shout "fire" or "bomb" in a crowded theater or airport and create a dangerous situation. There is no ob...
