Re: Seven Months Down. 53 To Go.

Thanks for your report to the NOM High Council Bishop! It is a great window into the functioning of a ward in 2021. I know firsthand how hard this is and I'm glad you're getting the support from NOM. Good vibes to you.

Re: Should I get a Priesthood blessing?

How’s the eye? Any updates? I had a cornea transplant surgery a couple of weeks ago. My doctor told me yesterday it successfully got rid of the amoeba problem! I am feeling much better and light sensitivity is slowly improving. I hope to return to work in two or three weeks. My vision is still very...

Re: Dehlin Alternate Reality

We've talked about this before, NOM was once a place where people came who knew the Church isn't what it claims to be but wanted to still be engaged and make it work for them. I once thought this place isn't like that anymore because we had run off anyone who thought that way, but I've since decide...

Re: Mormon Bishop Accuses LDS Church Of Atrocities

Wow Stealth! I had no idea!! I didn't join NOM until 2016. You are so amazing!! Thanks. Much appreciated. Unlike former bishop Richard Ostler, I spent all my "capital" in one shot and went all in. He's much wiser and more disciplined in the use of his capital. He's definitely "playing the long game...

Re: Mormon Bishop Accuses LDS Church Of Atrocities

This is amazing, Stealth! This past Sunday one of the speakers in our ward talks about Helmuth Hübener ( wiki ) The 17 year old church member who spoke out against Nazis before WW2. President Grant had visited Germany a few years earlier and told the church members there to get along with the Nazi ...

Re: Tales of Tithing Settlement

As a former bishop, I know that tithing settlement is a busy time and stressful so I made it easy on our bishop and so DW and I just emailed him our status which was partial tithe payers. Next year we will likely pay no tithing at all. DW and I consider both of our money as jointly held but we compr...

We're not as flashy as MS or Sunstone or Mormon Discussions but we have our place. I'm glad I'm back. I always loved this place.

Re: Debate night live thread!!!!!!

I exchanged email with a couple of the main people at FAIR. They think these guys are the secret sauce to keep young people from bailing out of the Good Ship Zion. That's scary..... That FAIR could be that desperate. They must be aware that they're losing this battle badly. I think they are clearly...

Re: DHO's Attempted Gaslighting of Electroshock (EDIT: AVERSION THERAPY) Therapy On Gay Individuals At BYU

Just so everyone is clear.. electro shock therapy is often what people say when they mean electro convulsive therapy, or electro convulsive shock therapy, which is still a viable treatment for severe depression. The controversial therapy that was conducted at BYU in the 70's and maybe as late as th...

Re: Why are temples going Moroni-less ?

We are aligning ourselves more and more with conservative evangelical Christianity. Contrary to what many ExMos and Post Mos say, I do think we had some positive unique aspects to the culture and the theology but they are falling by the way side in order to help us blend in even more. This just kil...

Hi, River Morgan here. For those who didn't participate in the old NOM board, I'm a GOF* 😂 and mouthy to boot. i'm BIC and still a member of record, but out for almost a decade. I raised a family as a good Primary President mommy though and they are all still very much in, to my sorrow. I see probl...

Re: Families Floating in Hereafter

I was curious as to the reason God would want to take away your loved ones or break up your family if you are not Mormon. Any thoughts on what would be God's motivation, or if this is a self-serving notion from LDS HQ? My sense is that it is a residual of Augustinian/Calvinist theology of a psychop...

Re: Mormon Bishop Accuses LDS Church Of Atrocities

Yeah, I remember that night. Wow, was it really ten years ago. For a kind of different perspective, I talked my husband into going to that meeting of NOMs. He was reluctant, but o assured him other spouses were going, and he finally agreed to go with the promise that he could tell me at any point t...

Re: Mormon Bishop Accuses LDS Church Of Atrocities

I didn't discover NOM 1.0 until late in 2014, I think it was. Maybe even later - all the more reason to feel a bit sad that my posts from those early years are gone. So this is before my time here, that would have been very interesting to see the discussions surrounding this. Do you feel comfortabl...

Re: The Branch is broke that is zero dollars !!!

Dialectic. Holding two truths at once.

In this case:

1) Unit budgets are rule governed and based on SM attendance. Lower attendance--less money.

AND

2) The church is hoarding more money than most human beings can even imagine.

POV: It has to do with the cognitive revolution as described in Sapiens for primates who achieved consciousness. They began to make meaning. They came to believe that there were higher powers connected with rocks, streams, trees, animals etc. These primates also had wiring that was tribal in nature ...

Re: My formerly orthodox wife uses the "C" word

As some of you know my wife has gone through a serious and radical faith transition. She no longer holds a calling and attends only occasionally. This has been a really difficult transition for her and she has even had to have some therapy to help her through it because she has had mental health is...
