Re: Looks like I'll be doing my "Home Study" after all...

This just in: Mrs. Hagoth has suggested that for our home study we read Emily Pearson's Dancing With Crazy. Here's Amazon's description: Emily Pearson’s memoir Dancing With Crazy is the true story of her personal derailment, both horrifically and humorously demonstrating what happens when m...

Re: Temple Initiatory: Men vs. Women.

The Horrifying Initiatory Story thread got me thinking. I figured it would be better to start a new thread to think this one through. In my experience, men tend to be very unnerved and shocked by initiatory. Having a strange old man get too close to comfort is usually a big part of it. However, wom...

Re: UT.gov: Back to Church RMN: Not Yet

https://www.ksl.com/article/46750136/churches-can-open-under-new-utah-guidelines-but-must-still-observe-social-distancing I was thinking that it would be really difficult for TBMs to go back to their buildings and manage to follow the distancing guidelines, guess RMN and the old guys agree: In a vi...

Re: UT.gov: Back to Church RMN: Not Yet

Back as a TBM, I used to hate taking my kids to church during the winter. Primary and the nursery in particular were breeding grounds for germs. I hated how no matter how many times the leadership would say to stay home if kids were sick, there were members who would always show up and them dump th...

Re: What will church look like...after Covid-19

I think Nelson will use this to continue to remake the church like he wants it. He seems to really want to get rid of a lot of things, and with everything being cancelled because of Covid-19, the things he doesn't like just quietly won't come back. Whereas getting rid of certain traditions and belo...

If there is one thing that I loathe about mormonism, it's the culture of fake friendships. Is there such a thing in the church as a genuine friendship?
I do believe that the answer is yes. Unconditional are few, conditional are many. My observation anyway.

Re: LDS Inc. Recieved Government Assistance

Personally, as an individual, I wouldn't return the money. If I didn't need it, I would find someone who is making masks, or gowns, or feeding the poor and give it there. The government will likely waste it down the line. Somehow $1000 turns into a few hundred. Giving it directly to one individual, ...

Re: What will church look like...after Covid-19

My bishop dearly misses the opportunity to worship together, according to his occasional emails. I get these emails too. Missing being together... I don't buy it. It must be nice not to have to do all the meetings, being away from family, etc. I can imagine an email, at least from many, that states...

Re: What will church look like...after Covid-19

I think there will be many who don't want to go back to the way it was, but would never state it out loud. Quiet obedience is an important part of the church. You may not like or understand something, but obedience is key.

Christ to return? Each generation will think it's during their life. Pfft, I'm waiting for the Three Nephites. I would have thought them to be Larry, Curly, and Moe, but those three died. So no. I wonder where they are bunkering down?

Re: Unwritten Articles of Faith

Like Abraham and Heber C. Kimball, we believe that obedience to god, his church, and his prophet is the penultimate law. Anything else, including civil law, observable scientific principles, and personal conscience (sometimes referred to as the light of Christ) may be subordinated to this ultimate,...

Self-righteous condescension works both ways though. You think you have so much more to live up to. Fail fail fail. Glad THAT is gone. But there is something to be said about feeling special and having the security that you are on the right path and that all of the big questions have been answered ...

...one of my relative's PB said that he was a direct descendent of Jesus Christ. So imagine the feeling of importance the TBMs, of that line, have. We are super special. What a cruel trick to play on someone, assuming they really believed it. It dooms them to a lifetime self-righteous condescension...

I can appreciate the comparisons of Joseph to David Koresh, or Jim Jones, but are there any organizations out there similar to LDS-Inc. where the "creator" ended up a "martyr?" How have those organizations fared through time? The Jesus cult. Excellent comparison. Now... Does anyone know if any of t...

Seams noticeable under clothing? Isn't that what they want? You know those garment lines get checked out. Even I check. Hmmm, I wonder if so and so is wearing them? I don't think garms work under that shirt/shorts. I can't help it. I check. I know some of you do too. You know TBMs are checking. The ...
