Re: Happy God

I know what you mean! I used the free trial of Headspace and started at just 3 minutes and worked my up to 15. Once I had finished the trial I felt like I had the hang of it and didn't pay for more. The general recommendation for beneficial meditation seems to be 30 minutes but 15 feels about right...

Re: WoW pisses me off!

Anyone have something similar? Absolutely. All of this is completely anecdotal, but : Myself and a few of my siblings are getting to the point where all of those "age related" illnesses could / will kick in. Those of us who more than likely followed the WoW are having more issues with those "illnes...

Re: Your Random LDS Questions

I will start: Will LDS people accrue Celestial Kingdom demerits for eating green tea ice cream? According to urban legend, David O. McKay said you can eat all of the tea, coffee and alcohol you would like. Section 89 states that you are not supposed to drink those substances. Dang. That means I hav...

Re: Happy God

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, just throwing it out there to see if anyone has looked into this research and what they think about it. I don't know if I'll keep looking for God but meditation has been an overall very positive experience for me and I become increasingly convinced tha...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

What do you think, how far would a simple apology go? ...It would take a while to make up for that, and even then, would trust actually be restored? What if they did not ask for your trust - but instead used their faults to promote individual agency and beliefs? They've been incapable of "promoting...

Re: "The church gets more right than it gets wrong"

"More right than wrong." What does that entail? Confirmation bias, motivated reasoning, Texas sharpshooter, and how many other stupid human tricks and logical fallacies? Here's what my confirmation bias says: "The church" convinces people that they are broken, and then sells them the "fix", but the ...

Actually: That was one of the best syopsis of the bible I think I've ever read.

But what do I know? (I'll go ahead and answer: Next to nothing.)

One of the first that comes to mind... Jaredite Barges: Wait a minute here, there are too many things that just don't add up; Reality doesn't work that way... Oh well [shrug] Elohim Magic! (Add the tight dishes to the shelf.)

Re: Your Random LDS Questions

Here's a legit question I asked in the RMN meets the Pope thread: What happens if all 15 top COBlers parish in an unfortunate plane crash or some other "God needed them more than us." end of mortality demise? If all the beloved non-profits, seers and key holding revelators are no longer living, doe...

Re: Alcohol Content of Beer in Utah vs Walmart

Utah lawmakers have struck a deal to let higher-alcohol beer be sold in Utah grocery and convenience stores. House members signed off on the measure Wednesday by a 61-14 vote, sending the bill back to the Senate for a final vote that is expected to occur Thursday. This second substitute bill would ...

What helped me: I missed a 5-minute polygamist ceremony on the inside, focused on enjoying the rest of the day, and it turned out wonderful.

Are they doing a ring ceremony or anything like that?

Re: Visiting New Orleans

I made quite a few visits to N'awlins for work conferences in the past. I was still mormon -ing to the best of my ability during those visits. Never there during Mardi Gra. The food was wonderful. The tourist-y sights throughout the city are fun. Bourbon Street was interesting while mormon -ing to t...

... I would also imagine that they schedule travel times so somebody from the 12 is away from SLC at any given time so if we get nuked or the COB gets toppled in an earthquake they can take over. Not during the bi-annual convention. (General Conference.) I could be mistaken though. I'm not positive...

Re: Mormon/LDS/ETCOJCOLDS website name changes now official

I'm kinda surprised that here, a week later, when I visit churchofjesuschrist(dot)org it redirects me to lds(dot)org, not the other way around. I would have expected redirecting all lds(dot)org traffic to the new cojc domain to be something that happened in conjunction with the announcement. Cart b...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

What do you think, how far would a simple apology go? A "simple apology?" I don't think a simple apology would go far at all. It needs to be a very complex, very in-depth apology. And beyond that, any kind of apology won't mean anything without some restitution for what they've done. They've been l...
