Re: Soundtrack of the NOM

I do want to go - them tickets a bit spendy. Have you been to this venue before? Is the lawn section any good? I've seen a few shows at the amphitheater, both seated and on the lawn. In my (useless) opinion, the lawn section is great. Lawn tickets are cheap. Get there early, reserve your spot, brin...

Re: Church seeks MTC case to be dismissed

Is it possible to know the truth? Maybe, maybe not, but we can definitely look at evidence. As Alas mentioned, more than one victim has come forward. There are also multiple witnesses to the alleged room where the misdeeds took place. Whether or not Bishop has dementia now, has nothing to do with h...

Re: The subtleness of Satan?

I never thought Santa was all that subtle. The bright red suit, big fluffy white beard, lead-reindeer with a glow-in-the-dark nose. I guess he's a bit subtle when he sneaks into folks' housees while they're asleep.

Oh, wait... :?

Re: Reddit Post on Joseph's Bad Math in the Book of Mormon

Polygamy: Both here and in the "afterlife", it just doesn't add up in more than one way. Unless you maintain the gender stereotype that women are more righteous, pure, simple, and therefore less accountable for certain sins. Then you can imagine yourself a heaven where women outnumber the men 20 to...

Re: Reddit Post on Joseph's Bad Math in the Book of Mormon

There are so many examples in mormonism where the math doesn't add up. The mentions on the reddit thread are just the tip of the iceberg. After thinking about it for .000001 seconds, the first couple to come to mind: Polygamy: Both here and in the "afterlife", it just doesn't add up in more than one...

Re: My list/summary of why the church can't be true... (24/25 complete)

This may not belong on your list, as you want to stick with "facts", but: I have major issues with the entire epistemology of mormonsim. Using feelings and or emotions to determine "truth" is completely unreliable, and has to be one of the worst ways to actually find truth. I'm going to try and fin...

Re: Voted off the island

+1 more to the thought that Spouseman needs to leave the island with you. We have something "slightly" similar going on in my family with an in-law doing stupid things, and then blaming everyone else, and "punishing" them for their actions. (Nothing involving children, but abusive nonetheless.) I wo...

Re: Juggling World Views

Since I spent more than half my life stuffing my square-ish self in to a round-ish magical/mystical/supernatural world view, I'm more interested at this point in science and skepticism. Most of my "study" in this area is podcasts, and "books on tape". While I still listen to (ex)mormon/religious pod...

My dad is an adult convert, so you would think this quote might give him pause, but I guess not. Re: Elder Christofferson Has Read Sam Young's Stories of Abuse

The rate of Mormons handing in their resignations has, perhaps, stayed the same. When the department that processes resignations moves their "offices" out of the Church Office Building, to another office space on 200 West, it would seem that they needed to expand due to higher volumes. Just sayin'....

Re: A Robust Sexual Ethic

But if we become the sole arbiters of our own morality, what is there that precludes us from falling into the trap of situational ethics? All ethics are situational when it comes down to it. You must always reference the situation to determine what is ethical. And all ethic systems have escape clau...
