Re: Mormons and Muslims

What other similarities are there? What about polygamy/child brides? I'm no expert on the Muslim part of this comparison, but I do recall excerpts here and there of folks accusing Muhammad of pedophilia? Is/(are) there young girl(s) associated with the Mohamed story? (Insert :puking-smiley: here.)

Re: Did anyone else hear voices?

I also asked him if hallucinations were like dreams and he said no, very different, but had a hard time articulating what the difference was. It was a difference in experience, like describing what salt tastes like. Yeah, so in essence: Dreams are a "different form" of hallucinations. Got it! :P

Re: Love

I think we are commanded to love everyone. It doesn't mean you have to like them. This is almost an exact quote from someone close to me. I love everyone. I just don like everyone. (The saying definitely popped into my head while reading Linked's OP.) ETA: If so, what should love be? I have similar...

I agree that it's important to prioritize possibilities according to available evidence. Like, for instance, this genuine photograph of a supernatural entity: https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Ftse3.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOIP.8DuMBKg0m2tR5rJzRzm4UwHaFN%26pid%3DApi&f=1 EDDI...

This is one of those situations where I genuinely feel sorry for both Matthew and Gerrit... Though not my initial reaction, sadness has become my reaction after seeing these posts, reading about them and having some hours to ruminate. Sadness for both of the Gong's. That being said, I must type tha...

Re: Did anyone else hear voices?

What's the difference between a hallucination and a dream? If you're hearing and seeing stuff that's not there when you're walking around I think that pretty neatly fits the definition of a hallucination. However, there are two kinds - probably the most common - that happen in a sleep state when pe...

I have read that just about everyone will experience hallucinations at some point in their life
What's the difference between a hallucination and a dream?

And as to the thread topic: I've never heard voices, never seen ghosts, holy or friendly; Never been visited by any dead people.

Re: Big Love

I really feel for people stuck in polygamy today. If you spend some time listening to the "Year of Polygamy" podcast, or watch some documentaries about current polygamists, or do some reading of books written by polygamists: There are a LOT of polygamists who don't feel "stuck" in polygamy at all. ...

Re: Where was John the beloved buried? Or was he not buried?

Another bit of a thread-jack...

Do folks who are believers in the "restoration-ist" movement put much credence in "where" some "famous prophet" like John the beloved might be buried?

I understand Catholics with their sainthood-type-stuff "caring" about such things, but MORmONs?

Chapter 19 (“Music”) has information about using culturally diverse music styles and instruments other than a piano and organ. “Sacred music that is written or sung in culturally diverse musical styles may help unify congregations,” the text says. “Music coordinators and priesthood leaders may incl...

Re: New Year’s resolutions?

OK, I've resisted long enough. I'll let the Fluffy social reject out and type: I hate New Year's Resolutions. If I feel the need to "set a goal." I see no need to wait until some arbitrary day in January to set that goal. Why do we make such a big deal out of setting goals for the new "year?" Maybe ...

Re: Snufferism is better

I’m still fearful or leery of religion. Religion tends to suck you in with platitudes that are appealing to the human senses, and then ask you for money and to sleep with your wife. Yup. Once you see this pattern it’s hard to unsee. It’s a matter of time before Snuffer introduces the next phase of ...
