Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
Something of note that hasn't been mentioned: Baptism is an Aaronic Priesthood ordinance. Any zit-faced 16-year-old MORmON has the "power" to baptize. ( Nothing against zit-faced 16-year-olds - that was me at that age, AND I was a red-head! ) Just a little something to keep in the back pocke...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
... So, my recommendation is you do it as tradition, even if you want to explain to the child that you do not believe, but are doing it out of love of them. Then there is no inauthenticity because you are completely open about your reasons, and nobody thinks it means that deep down you “know it is ...

Re: Conspiracy Road Trip: Creationism
... I’m willing to accept that I’m here as a result of my ancestors copulating and that in a million years from now humans and life on the planet will look vastly different (assuming we don’t destroy it in the next 1000 years), but what does that really mean? What’s the purposes here and what does ...

Re: A New Theistic Argument
... So, when we project onto God our own helplessness at stopping all that evil that atheists project onto God and say that therefore God does not exist…..maybe we are missing the point. Maybe God wants *us* to stop all that suffering, not just throw our hands up in the air and yell at God for not ...

Re: A New Theistic Argument
Something fun I read the other day about this theistic argument:
If god is going to go to all the trouble it takes to make it look like they don't exist, It's only polite to believe them.

I was a little surprised to hear Nelson state that baptism will get you into the Celestial Kingdom but only temple covenants and marriage would get you "Exaltation" within the Celestial Kingdom. I've never read that baptism alone, would get you into the CK. I've also never heard, or read that makin...

Re: Conspiracy Road Trip: Creationism
Watched the entire documentary, and... Wow. My apostate brain tells me that I was never as indoctrinated as those creationist folks but was I? If I had participated in a Conspiracy Road Trip during my two-year stint as an unpaid salesperson for LD$-Inc. would I have acted similar to the creationists...

... They tell you that you made those promises to Godalmighty, but if you really pay attention you realize that you made them to the church. True, you swear before God and Angels, but it is to Russell M. Nelson and Co. that you really pledge your life and allegiance. Am I wrong about this? Well... ...

Man that clip of the two women and the one says 'then don't be thinking' about what she heard is just so common and so depressing. ... A good (apostate) friend of mine told me once that one of his biggest issues with religion was: "It teaches you not to think." I think I replied: "Think about what?...

Re: NOMference Spring 2024 Sat afternoon!!!
Serious question. Does anyone believe that the church will ever move on from saying the word "covenant" 33 times per hour? Someone needs to do a word-analysis thingy on the LD$-Inc. website. I wouldn't be surprised if use of that word has gone up significantly during the reign of Rusty Nel. Cook. I...

Re: NOMference Eve Spring 2024!!
But what can we really expect? I mean during a global pandemic the best they could come up with was this cheap catch phrase "Think Celestial"  C'mon now. We also got a historic proclamation... about something or other. Oh, that's right.... I completely forgot about that and even right ...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!
... Does the church stand behind the superstition that garments actually provide protection from physical harm? (spoiler: they made an official statement that popped that balloon) Yet the current spiel they read before gaslighting folks about what they supposedly promised to do in the temple still ...

To me the "nice" purpose for the "Common Good" would be similar to previous answers: The purpose of religion is: To answer the un-answerable questions Give people "meaning" Community/Tribe My cynical answers: The purpose of religion is to sell people useless cures to made up maladies. The cures don'...

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!
Here's the current temple recommend spiel: The temple garment is a reminder of covenants made in the temple and, when worn properly throughout life, will serve as a protection against temptation and evil. The garment should be worn beneath the outer clothing. It should not be removed for activities...

Re: Would you do it all over?
This is a tough one.
There are definitely things in my life related to MORmONism that I would like to "Go Away!"
But... Would I want to give up all of the good in my life for a "Do-Over?"
In a way, this is a dilemma I'm glad I don't have to deal with.

Re: The Mormon church is looking to crack down on... garments?!
How bout I just draw some Magick MORmON Masonic Polygamy symbols on myself every once in a while with a Sharpie™? LD$-Inc. could even start selling Consecrated Sharpie's. Just make sure the cap of the sharpie is off when you consecrate it. Yeah, I did wonder at times why my Magick MORmON Wiza...
