Re: What's the deal with the social media fast?

This is going to create a bit of a headache for some people. My wife coordinates Activity Days pretty much all through facebook because all the moms are on there and it is convenient for group communication. Yes, there are other ways to do this, but its kind of a pain to make the switch for 10 days.

Re: Sam Young and the church on CNN

That article is extremely thorough. Really well done. I wonder what Sam’s next move is? Just saw a FB post from him the other day that he was being interviewed for "This American Life". Contrary to what the church had hoped, I don't think this one is going to just go away yet. That would be awesome...

Re: The Toxic Teachings of Henry J. Eyring

So in other words, a person needs to be perfect in order to determine the church is false. I'm sure the church would love to set that as the bar. I do wonder, would they apply that same rule for someone trying to determine if say the catholic church is false. You see Eyring, whatever basis you estab...

Re: After 10 years, I finally did it

I guess in some ways it's not an authentic life, but how many of us are truly living a 100% authentic life? Have we all told our employers that working 40 hours a week sucks? Have we all shed our clothes and gone naked? Do we only eat Pizza and drink beer 100% of the time? No, we live and love with...

Re: After 10 years, I finally did it

Lostintime, I'm terrified to tell my mom (my dad passed away many years ago) because all my other siblings have already left the church. I am her last hope for carrying the torch to her posterity. She has told me many times how I'm her rock, and has turned to me many times when she has struggled wi...

Re: After 10 years, I finally did it

I just had the exact same experience two weeks ago! Your story is almost identical to mine, but I only waited 5 years instead of 10. It's kind of a surreal experience isn't it? As I was telling my wife I was thinking, I can't believe I'm saying this out loud. I had pretended to be TBM for so long t...

Re: After 10 years, I finally did it

Congratulations, you two! (Hmmm... that sounded less gay in my head.) Now, a piece of unsolicited advice for both of you: be sensitive to the asymmetry between your experience and your spouse's. For you, it might feel like a blessed relief: after all these years, you can finally stop pretending. Ma...

Re: After 10 years, I finally did it

The hardest thing for me is seeing her cry and knowing its because of me, but she assures me that she's glad I told her. I had another conversation with her last night. She expressed that she feels like she's a bad wife for not recognizing that I had stopped believing (when we first got married, I w...

After 10 years, I finally did it

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while. I hangout a lot more these days over on reddit, but at the end of the day, this place still feels like home. As memory serves, I joined the old board sometime in 2008. I took the mantra to "take it slow" to quite an extreme, being content to exist in t...

Another former mission president in legal trouble

Sorry if this is a repost, but I didn't see it anywhere. I saw this in the news the other day but didn't connect it to mormonism until someone over on reddit pointed it out. I know not everyone here frequents reddit, so I thought I'd share. I woman decided to determine her ancestry by sending her DN...

Re: Protect LDS Children News Conference - Return and Report

1. An undercover audio or video gets recorded and leaked to the media. Start recording these interviews. 2. Can we file a class action lawsuit against the church to get their attention? Anyone who has been harmed by these interviews can join. I'm not a lawyer so not sure what basis there would be t...

I'm really curious to see how this affects European membership. Europe was already in a death spiral membership wise, and I can't imagine this will help anything.

Where did the post come from?

Just curious.
Same here. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Was it a private facebook post. Kind of a pointless way to try to end speculation.

While certainly not appropriate for this site, the proposed "Merit Badges" over on the exmormon subreddit are absolutely hilarious for someone that doesn't mind a little irreverent humor.

Re: Don't think I can go back to church after today

I've gotten myself on a schedule of skipping sunday school pretty regularly for this reason. I teach in the YM, and can pick and choose lessons there that I can stomach, but sunday school is just too much for me. I've had to just walk out a few times when I just couldn't stand it any more.

Re: Laws of Physics

This idea that God follows the laws of physics has always bothered me. If god followed natural laws, we wouldn't need religion, we would study him from a scientific perspective. Placing god outside of natural laws is the only hope for any religion. It blows my mind that the church hasn't recognized ...

Re: The Third Way Fails Again

Dude that sucks. I've been frequenting NOM for about 9 years now, and while it was easy for awhile, lately I've been finding that hearing stories like this over and over just keep slowly building, and now suddenly I'm starting to experience some of the anger I've been hearing about from others for a...

Well done. I've always respected you as a poster, especially as probably one of the only posters here that is what is holding the family in the church instead of the reverse, you catch it from all sides. Those critical of mormonism can't understand why you want to stay, those within mormonism can't ...

Re: Elder Oaks - encouraging holiday insensitivity?

I always wonder why you can't actually just get to know a person well enough to know their religious preference, and wish them a happy whatever based on the actual individual rather than feeling like we need to just broadcast a canned holiday greeting regardless of religious preference.
