Re: Henry Erying's Big Faith

Eyring: "It is dangerous to doubt the truthfulness of the church because of human behavior". Translation: It is dangerous to conduct research into the life of Joseph Smith because of what you might learn and just because he was a con man and charlatan doesn't mean the church isn't true. This, ...

Re: Henry Erying's Big Faith

I would offer the counter in that we can no the truthfulness of the church exactly because of human behavior. Or more specifically, how it manages human behavior. We know humans. We know they are problematic. To paraphrase the D&C, They will seek after power and to set themselves up above one anoth...

One hour church

I'm hearing several reports about the 'church' piloting and experimenting with one hour church in select stakes in both Arizona and Utah - can anyone corroborate this? The scuttlebutt is a 25 minute sacrament meeting, 5 minute break and then 30 minutes alternating between SS and priesthood/RS every ...

I wonder how many LDS men who were buried in their temple clothes got to the other side, discovered they had been buried in Masonic clothing and were like 'doh'? :o

Re: Catholic church donates 10% of its donations to charity

1%, 5%, 10%... it's irrelevant once you become familiar with and recognize/understand that these 'churches' are big businesses masquerading as a religion with billions at their disposal while enjoying tax-exempt status. 🤣 At that point, it becomes easy to donate what you can directly to charities su...

Catholic church donates 10% of its donations to charity

https://www.wsj.com/articles/vatican-uses-donations-for-the-poor-to-plug-its-budget-deficit-11576075764 VATICAN CITY—Every year, Catholics around the world donate tens of millions of dollars to the pope. Bishops exhort the faithful to support the weak and suffering through the pope’s main charitable...

Church/BYU-Idaho stops taking student Medicaid, repeals decision after fallout

You can't make this stuff up... https://www.sltrib.com/news/education/2019/11/22/byu-idaho-no-longer/ In a nutshell, the church (BYU-Idaho) decided to stop allowing students to enroll in classes if Medicaid was their only form of health insurance. This was in response to a state expansion in Medicai...

How was Joseph Smith dictating the B of M out of his hat?

Does anyone know of any information out there from LDS or non-LDS historians who know how Smith was really dictating the Book of Mormon out of his hat? Obviously, he wasn't seeing special characters appearing on his magic rock and so this begs the question... was he reading from something in print t...

Re: Another big Joseph Smith blow out?

How anyone who is aware of the truth about who Joseph Smith really was can sing 'Praise to the Man' without vomiting is a mystery to me??? Even more troubling is how the church (FP & Q of the 12) can honestly and seriously be preparing a huge Joseph Smith bash event for spring conference to commemor...

Re: Tithing settlement

Well, I eventually agreed to meet with our Bishop today about it and it was a total non-event... he simply asked if we were full tithe-payers, I said yep and that was that. Meeting was less than 5 minutes. But that is all a Bishop is supposed to do as there should be no questioning, shaming, pressur...

Re: Tithing settlement

Hermy nailed it. Extortion is one word that he might have skillfully woven into the fabric of what he said. Yeah, it is unconscionable to me how the church not only uses a big percentage of its donations for investing into interest bearing accounts for several years for massive development projects...

I know you've already stated that you are going to attend #8, but I'm still going to vote that you do this: Send an email stating full. How the bishop handles that could give you an inkling as to how he's going to handle things. In the case of him questioning 7 months missing, "my" reply would be: ...

Re: Tithing settlement

You’re over thinking this. You don’t owe the bishop anything. Until you’re ready to leave just keep your mouth shut. Nowhere does it say you have to pay the full year’s tithes by tithing settlement. Nowhere does it say you have to pay monthly. Just pay your tithes according to the dictates of your ...

Thanks for the replies everyone. It was a text message I got from the Exec. Sec'y and I already said next Sunday would work. Tithing settlement

I've got a little conundrum and was hoping for some advice. Re: Lila Tueller Interview

This sounds eerily similar to what they did back in 1984 when Ron Poelman gave an address which basically shot down any notion that the brethren are infallible where the hierarchy of the church had him re-do his address from the pulpit with key elements taken out so that his remarks were more in lin...
