Re: GA Stipend is modest compared to executive compensation
I'm getting tired of two comparisons: 1. Comparing them to a small priest or pastor 2. Comparing them to an executive The best comparison I have seen so far is to other large church leaders. I took my own bishop who earns roughly $112,000 a year, receives another $43,000 in medical, dental, and pen...

Re: GA Stipend is modest compared to executive compensation
There are a number of reasons to be put off by the GA stipends, and reasons not to be put off. See BUT tree below. - The stipends are not over-the-top. $120k/year is not that much for the leaders of a large organization ----- BUT, those stipends are paid, at some level, at the cost of the tithes of ...

Re: "Hey, Hagoth, where was the Garden of Eden?"
Well according to the guys at Universal Model they have evidence that the first people were in America, https://universalmodel.com/portfolio_page/clovis-images-2/ . The Clovis Point discovery presents and documents, with a number of evidences, the place of origin for the first humans (emphasis added...

I've always taken "Drive safe!" as someone wishing me well in the vein of "take care", not instructing me to stay out of the fast lane. Maybe I didn't hear them right.

Wow, this sucks. I'm sorry Shadow. The system is sexist, but being a non-believer is worse than being a woman. (Just typing that sentence made me feel icky; being a woman is not bad, women are awesome people who I respect.) I'm sorry you are getting the shaft from the church and I hope things turn u...

Re: Book of Mormon Stories must go
I served in Primary for a few years and it was always amusing when some fervent child wanted to sing this song. All the adults in the room were visibly uncomfortable with the sentiments expressed in this song. There are hand signals to go along with the lyrics and they are as culturally insensitive...

Book of Mormon Stories must go
Book of Mormon Stories was one of my favorite songs as a little boy, and my son loves it now. A great beat, you get to do actions with it, and you could almost yell the words. But the beat and the actions are stereotypical Native American, implying that the Native American culture came from the Lama...

Re: Defining a "Crisis of Faith"
I think a mormon crisis of faith occurs when you go from "The Church is true." to "Is the Church true?"* It's not a very clear definition, but that was when my shelf broke. Somewhere inside I felt the evidence pointing to the church not being true, but I continued to hold to my "Church is True" mind...

Re: I Find Myself Hoping Your Plane Crashes
Thanks again for all the support, you guys really helped me through this. I talked to my wife about how hard it was for me to hear her say she wants me dead and she quickly clarified that she just wants the situation to be fixed and that she can't help but recognize that my death is a clean way out....

Re: I Find Myself Hoping Your Plane Crashes
Thank you all for the thoughtful responses. My wife certainly wishes she could get out of the problems I have caused for her. My death would not bring her joy, simply relief. It's a clean solution to the problem. She wouldn't care if I lived a happily apostate life if it didn't affect her so direly....

I Find Myself Hoping Your Plane Crashes
Yesterday as we were walking out of church my TBM wife told me she was going to try to meet with the bishop to renew her year-expired temple recommend. (She had previously expressed interest in going to the temple and I told her I totally support her, and that I would get a recommend with her to kee...

Re: The Church has Narcissitic Personality Disorder
Well, since corporations often take on the characteristics of their leaders/founders it isn't surprising. I think most of the top leaders have mild to diagnosable cases of narcissistic personality disorder also. Look at the way they claim that they personally should never be criticized, should have...

Re: ...And Back Down on the Mixed Faith Marriage Roller Coaster
Thanks for your thoughts Alas, I will see if I can find a good communication book to go through together. I would have mixed feelings if she went somewhere else to figure out her feelings, but the sadness that she wasn't able to open up to me would be dwarfed with the joy that she is finding herself...

The Church has Narcissitic Personality Disorder
There have been many posts about how the church promotes narcissism, this is not one of those. The church, however, as an entity, has a severe case of narcissist personality disorder. Organizations have a lot of similarities with organisms, and in a world where a corporation gets free speech a churc...

Re: ...And Back Down on the Mixed Faith Marriage Roller Coaster
One option would be to back track even further than RR is recommending and acknowledge that you understand she is upset because she feels that you are mocking her inner most self. That would make anyone feel unloved. Once you convince her that you want to understand more about how she feels and why...

Re: Mother's guilt trip mildly endearing?
Thanks for posting this Enoch, I am wondering how to approach this with my mom too. My parents are old, not on their deathbed but their minds are slowing down. I may have missed the time when they could have processed my disaffection, so it may be time for me to just say nothing. My parents don't as...

I previously wrote about how my wife seems to be coming around a bit (see link) https://newordermormon.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=511&p=5039#p5039 , but things have turned around again unfortunately. Yesterday I saw that The Book of Mormon musical is coming to SLC and I have wanted to see it since befo...

Re: Blessings of Membership in Christ's True Church
What an interesting topic for a talk that you wife is assigned to give! Unless she asks you for advice about her talk, I would just totally bug out and let her figure out what the blessings of membership really are for her. You know, for her as a TBM, with a husband who is starting to see it differ...
