Re: LDS Church proposes new community near future Tooele Valley Temple

You are quite right, Moksha, on both accounts - the County wants growth and the Church gets what it wants in Utah. There is an interesting dynamic at play as well with the whole petition thing. When we signed it last Saturday, other people were there signing as well and the dialogue shared while the...

Re: LDS Church proposes new community near future Tooele Valley Temple

Still just a rumor on the Butterfield Canyon road. I would be very surprised if anything happened with that - but it still makes for a nice Sunday drive in the summer :D

Re: LDS Church proposes new community near future Tooele Valley Temple

As a resident of Tooele County for about 22 years it’s been fun to read this thread and see what people think 😊. Maybe I can provide a little bit of clarification on this topic. First of all, yes, Tooele is a rural county with nearly all residents living in the northeast corner – within commuting di...

Re: Community

Hi Slavereeno, I rarely post here as I resigned a few years ago, along with my wife. All of my children are out as well. But I recognize the need to support someone when they start questioning. I was "doubting" the church years before my wife and it wasn't until my grown children were leaving and sh...

Re: Ward Council is Closed (Minded)

I don’t comment much here – I suppose it’s mostly because I have resigned and moved on. But I confess to enjoying your discussions and observing the level of maturity that is in this group. You are such thoughtful people!! I wanted to say thanks to Graey for sharing the experiences in this thread an...

Re: Let Go of My Ego

This is such an interesting topic to me, because the one thing I really wanted to have happen as I distanced myself from the church and eventually resigned this last summer was to be understood by those I left behind. I went as far as to write my own essay (a metaphor that I thought would be the mos...

Re: Do I tell DH I've tried alcohol?

I agree with jfro18 on this – you really need to not hide it from your spouse. At the same time, you will have to use some level of care divulging it. If you are done with alcohol after trying the sherry and the prosecco, I don’t know as I would even mention that at all. There are quite a few people...

Re: Carthage Jail

I was teaching Primary when I learned this stuff (church history - trying to do a good job on the lessons since I had the time to do it). I was sooo angry at being lied to. The thing that killed me as that when the topic came up four years later, they just used the same manual with all the whitewash...

Endowment Video Posted on YouTube by Mormon.org

Lithium Sunset mentioned that a friend posted this video produced by the LDS Church about its temple endowment ceremony ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd8tVXN9y6Q&t=1s ). I only learned about it yesterday as I saw a thread on the reddit from New Name Noah saying it had been taken down because of ...

Re: I'm about to be officially "outed": NOM Crowd-Sourcing

First of all, congratulations on the marriage of your child, wtfluff. Sorry you are finding yourself in a bad position with judgemental, passive aggressive family members. My $.02… the only people I would feel obligated to offer some explanation to would be my child – after all, it is their wedding ...

Welcome jb-10mm! You are on a good forum with decent respectful folks here. Though I don’t post much, I still get quite a bit out of the information and dialog that is shared. I had to respond to you simply because about four or five years ago I found myself pondering the same thoughts you are expre...

Re: Switched off vs. Pushed out?

That is the only book I have read in the "rescue the doubter" genre of books. I thought it started out all right with explanations on why people struggle, but proved quite frustrating to me for most of the second half. What can I say, apologists have kind of a bad hand to begin with in that they alw...

Re: Return and report: church hunting edition...sorry, long

Thanks for the information - it is helpful. I wondered about doing this type of church hopping in my community to find something to fill the gap, but as it turns out, I am just really liking the "2nd Saturday". My family (kids grown and married as well as siblings and their families) and I are all b...

Re: To Out Oneself or Not - Opinions on This Please

Thanks for all the input. I guess it all boils down to a personal decision where one should expect nothing from it. Or if anything at all, negativity from others. I suppose I should know this - I tried for some years to make comments in High Priests to get my peers to be more open in their views and...

Re: To Out Oneself or Not - Opinions on This Please

It's a good write up, Jeffret. We share a similar experience of performing a priesthood blessing we felt "led by the Spirit" in which did not come to pass. Mine was with my second daughter who had a rough time at delivery who I felt would recover and "be normal". In short, next month she celebrates ...

Re: To Out Oneself or Not - Opinions on This Please

Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it. The motivation to do it is solely to help open the eyes of leadership and let them know that people don't leave the church for the "Sunday School" reasons (i.e. they have sinned or want to sin, they have been offended, etc.). Maybe if some leader reads it, ...

To Out Oneself or Not - Opinions on This Please

To out yourself publicly, or not… what thoughts do you have on this? Let me preface this post by saying that that all members of my immediate family are out of the church as are my siblings. My wife’s siblings, for the most part, know about us as well and have been understanding and respectful. Some...
