Re: What is your freedom worth?

A better question for me is, why might I be more willing to pretend for money then I am for relationships? In both cases you are giving you life force, your very being, for something cold that will never reciprocate. Yeah - but that sounds like what most folks already do for a living. Big picture, ...

Re: "Why don't you want to believe?"

These kinds of questions have always confused me. I don't understand why anyone would want to believe anything. Our ability to understand our own reality seems so limited that it seems all we can hope for is to gather as much data as we can and form tentative hypotheses about what things might exist...

Re: How much do the Q15 and Q70s really know

My guess is that actual knowledge of the various issues varies greatly across this group. Some have investigated a bit and found answers that work for them, but many others are probably only vaguely aware and lump it all in with the expected challenges of the "last days." I've been amazed at how gen...

Re: Prophet accommodations

Slavereeno, your post really puts the situation in perspective. The apostles have two options. Stay with members and get adoration, attention, and hero worshipped. Or Stay at a hotel and eat at Chili's to earn loyalty points, go unnoticed, and a bad bout of diarrhea. What would you choose? I'll tak...

Re: Access Denied

It'll be as easy or as hard as you make it. If there's anything I've learned since becoming disaffected, it's that the pressure to perform in church assignments is entirely self-created. If all you do is say hi in the hallway, and you say that in the interview, what's the EQP going to do? Maybe try...

Re: Joe Bishop 2nd Annointing - is there a quandry here?

While I agree that it is all make-believe, my understanding of second anointing/calling and election doctrine is that the recipient is guaranteed exaltation in due course, but will pay a steep price for their transgressions before being eventually delivered. I've always understood this to mean that ...

Re: Patrick Mason Talk

The talk is nicely written and contains some beautiful sentiments. However, the path he suggests would necessarily require an open admission that the church is not literally true in any meaningful sense. And once you concede literal truth as the foundation and become the organization Mason suggests,...

I second the nomination for Santana. Any opposed?
The Oye Como Vas have it. Motion passed.
Opposed. Brother Van Halen is clearly favored above all others, save perhaps Elder Clapton.

Re: What do they do with TSMs stuff?

I would assume it is the same as when any of us die. His heirs (kids, I assume) inherit his personal effects and dispose of it as seems best to them. Some stuff - like personal papers, etc. - might be transferred to church ownership by pre-arranged agreement. I could be wrong, but I can't see why it...

Re: Trying to Get a New Monson Obituary Written by NYT

In comparison to the other "obits" it runs on notable deaths, I found the tone of Monson's deeply disrespectful. I do get this, and even why Sis M. thinks so, that they did in fact focus on the negative rather than the positive the man did in his life. I really do. But think of it this way; we only...

Re: The Hypocrisy of President Monson’s Funeral

Meh. I strongly suspect that Boyd Packer was the only one of the GAs who actually believed that. I've been to many an LDS funeral and no one has ever paid that advice much attention - even when bishops ask them to.

Re: Back on the Mission Dream

I have that 'nightmare' from time to time too. In mine I have the sense that I have already served multiple missions - as well as, "Hey, I'm married now. WTH!" But she's not included. Pretty much this. Getting less frequent but i'm closing in on 50. I always wake up relieved and pissed off at the s...

Re: Turning in TR

I've done this (giving back a TR) before. In all honesty, it felt GREAT to say (to the SP1C)-- I don't want this. This is basically the reason I'm thinking of doing it. If turning your TR in will give you a sense of finality or closure - go for it! On the other hand, my experience has been that qui...

I don't comment much, but feel moved to weigh in on this one. So, no, the needle will not be budged. And no, it is not worth the effor...

Re: Temple Prayer Roles

I could be wrong here, but isn't the actual prayer used in a temple prayer circle very scripted? Between Christ's warning in Matthew 6:7 and general church practice, it always struck me as a very blatant "vain repetition." Yes, very scripted. I was an ordinance worker for a while and we were basica...

Re: A different Q15----------

My honest answer is that I've never really understood the question - or at least it has never made much sense to me. Since there seems no reliable way to find out about the existence of God, I have never felt like I had enough evidence to base a belief on. I guess I neither believe nor disbelieve pe...
