Re: NOMference Sunday Afternoon Spring 2023!!

The Lethbridge temple is a bit of a head scratcher. There are quite a few members - I think three stakes - but only 45 minute drive from Cardston. This will really reduce the volume for the Cardston temple.

Re: Is there a single unique truth claim of Mormonism that holds up?

This is an interesting question and got me wondering if any religious truth claims could be said to "hold up"? I guess it depends how we define "hold up," but I actually could not think of anything. The earth certainly seems to be older than the traditional Christian creation story indicates, there ...

Re: Relaxed mission attire

A visiting GA told us in a zone conference that they had heard through some surveys and focus groups that the missionary dress code might be causing some people to feel uncomfortable or less interested in talking to the missionaries. He said that they were considering some changes but many of the se...

Re: CES/BYU Employee new requirements

Good thing no one ever lies in a job or temple recommend interview. /sarcasm I am also a bit confused at why there is a difference between the length of abstinence required for different jobs. Job requirements: - type 90 wpm - lift up to 25 lbs - manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmen...

Re: Meldrum on Mormon Stories

Wow - actual dowsing rods! It kind of makes sense though. To be a true believer in the tradition JS started, a person probably does need to accept the idea that dowsing, scrying, and other folk magic traditions have some validity. Still, it is quite a telling photo. My guess is that Hagoth is right ...

Re: The BIGGEST problem with Mormon God

Agreed. I have always found it strange that the first vision story is used as evidence that god has a body of flesh and bone. In none of the several versions is there any physical interaction. Not to mention that even if contact confirmed some material substance, that still would not qualify as evid...

Re: Rescuing the Restoration Conference

God was serious about the restoration in 50CE. But then in 1820 he was really serious. But now in 2022 he's really really serious. By the year 3000 we might start to see a pattern here. I looked in my seer stone and saw this clip from the year 3000 AD Rescuing the Restoration conference "God is mov...

Re: Rescuing the Restoration Conference

Interesting - if slightly bewildering. From the perspective of my agnostic-leaning worldview, this appears to be yet another spin around the cycle of disillusionment and reformation. Not too different (at least in concept) from the Reformation led by Martin Luther 500 years ago--and really any numbe...

Re: Where was John the beloved buried? Or was he not buried?

The Smith Family Cemetery, in Nauvoo, Illinois, is the burial place of Joseph Smith, his wife Emma, and brother Hyrum. Joseph Smith's parents Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith are also buried there,[1] as are Joseph Smith's brothers Samuel and Don Carlos. Others buried there include Robert B. Th...

Re: Lamanites called to Enoch Space City?

There is a very interesting alternative chronology of history that I glanced over which compares the historical recordings of the solstices instead of the ancient writings passed down from the nobles and monasteries of the "dark ages" in Europe. This mathematical reorganization of the past reveals ...

It will be interesting to see how he handles things should he get a turn in the top job. In terms of age and seniority, there is a chance that he gets to be president at some point - at least for a short time.

Re: Zygotes on thrones

Following this logic, I’ve sometimes wondered if this means abortion providers are responsible for more exaltations to godhood than any prophet, seer, or revelator.

Fortunately, I don’t believe in exaltation or prophets, so it’s all academic to me. ;)
