Re: What Satan wants

One of the Pod Casts I'm into is "This American Life." It totally has nothing to do with Mormonism, and just tells different real stories about real American people. (Coincidentally, there was one episode a year or so ago that talked about Mormon women and worthiness interviews, but I digress). ANYW...

Re: New handbook of instructions

So I've been completely inactive since 2016 and let's just say that if I were to sign up to renew my recommend today, I'd being saying no to a lot of the worthiness questions right now. Or put another way, I'm living a life cleaner than Joe Smith did, but less clean than his church now mandates. If...

Re: New handbook of instructions

Also, under magnitude: "The number of persons who are aware of the transgression also affects its seriousness." 6.10.6.4 I wonder why they said that? It fits right in with all the other cultural stuff where it's all about appearances. I'll take a stab at a serious answer. If everyone in the ward is...

Re: What does the church get right?

I have to respectfully disagree. I had a heart attack a month ago and required a bit of surgery. This was completely out of the blue. I am 40 and in great physical shape. When I returned home my house had been cleaned from top to bottom. There was an amazing recliner in my TV room. My lawn was mowe...

Re: New handbook of instructions

So there have been a few responses that they are still editing sections of it, which makes no sense given that they officially released this, but you'd have to believe that this will change given that it was called revelation. Ditto. That makes zero sense. This one is amazing- this is the Mormon ve...

Ha! I was about to say Real Estate or the Stock Market ;)
I'll say this for them, they can find and exploit free labor as good as or better than any other gangster on the planet.

Re: Federal Lawsuit Filed Against The Church

I watch enough attorney shows on TV which leads me to believe that this case has no merits simply based on the fact people pay money to the church in return for intangible religious benefits. Judge Judy: How long have you paid tithing to the Mormon Church? RR: since I was 3. JJ: and did you ever qu...

Re: Green tea is officially bad for you, against WoW

Wtf... Green tea and black tea are both made from the leaves of the exact same tea plant. The only difference is that the leaves in black tea are fermented and in green tea they’re not. They’re both tea and against the Word of Wisdom. Some drinks have tea in them but don’t advertise that fact, so a...

Re: Federal Lawsuit Filed Against The Church

This will be interesting to watch and will be some bad press for the church and church leaders. My gut tells me it won't be any more successful than Tom Phillips attempt a few years ago. One of Tom's problems is that he didn't just stick to trying to refute the claims of MORmONism, he took it back ...

Please read this carefully, multiple times if necessary, until you understand precisely what I am doing with this. Thanks. I don't really need to read carefully multiple times to see that you are looking to piggyback off what Jerry Grover has done to try and crack Reformed Egyptian. The problem is ...

Sunday Logistics

I haven't attended in a few years, but I can't help but be curious. Not curious enough to go check it out mind you, just curious enough to pop on here every now and again to see what's up. So tell me if you please, how do Sunday logistics work these days? With the combined HPG and EQ, 2 hour block, ...

Re: Stake Center burns.

Maybe the ground dedication prayer wasn't good enough so Jebus will make them do it over. Maybe it's built over an ancient tapir burial ground. I'm sure the dedicatory prayer was fine since some authority figure gave it. I'll be that the local saints just weren't quite righteous and faithful enough...

Re: The problem of evil and the name of the church

PERFECT POST! THANK YOU!! For me, the JS/BY history crap is whay I stopped believing. The actions/inactions of current COJCOLDS presidents is why I left. It's just dumbfounding to me to know how much good the Church can do in the world with all of the resources it has, but refuses to do so. WWJD? Bu...

Re: Hierarchy and the Amazing Shrinking Gospel

I can imagine various different outcomes for the church. 5. Just to show that NOM takes all possibilities into consideration, I'll add one more. In the Church's darkest hour, just as the armies of the world are about to destroy it and its righteous leaders who have been right all along, JC descends...

Re: Hierarchy and the Amazing Shrinking Gospel

Ironically, my FIL thinks this is a great attribute of the gospel. To him repetition is the glue that holds his testimony together. To me, it creates an inability to think. I'm pretty sure that you and your FIL are on the exact same page. You just have different words that mean the same thing.

Love the dialogue and all the thoughts you guys are sharing. I was giddy with joy and euphoria when we left without the lesson. I wasn't expecting to feel like that, but I did. It was just so freeing. I don't see us changing the boundary in our situation. The guilt unfortunately sucks. The good new...

What I’m about to say is harsh, cold, and may belong on exmo reddit instead of here, but I’ll say it anyway. I’m in a similar boat as you, but it’s with my parents. The cold hard truth is that I got my kids and spouse out of the cult, and any ruined relationships with those that remain in are collat...

Richard Bushman falls into that category. He will admit to all the problems and still criticize those who decide to stop living by the standards. He lives comfortably in both worlds.
Being on the payroll I’m sure helps him maintain that comfort.
