Re: Your tithing dollars at work!

Wow I think you or whoever said it was true--the church is becoming a real-estate business!

I posted one not long ago "Do you hear the people sing" from Les Miserables.

I like yours too. Sometimes it feels like my marriage is on a tightrope and also friend and family relations

Re: Garments always hanging out and it drives me nuts

Yeah, I bought the brief style for shorts but they're too tight. The boxer style's waistband is too tight also. The top is too hot during the day so I usually ditch it when I get to work. I agree with RR. It would be better in bed without them ;) Maybe that could be another marketing slogan--multipl...

Re: Quakerism

... she has learned a lot about Joseph Smith and has caused her to realize that he is an imperfect(fallible) man. . Quakers seem to move through this world almost unseen, doing good without getting much attention. Seems like a pretty Christian way of being, compared to the big, loud, demanding Chri...

Re: Quakerism

Interesting. Christians actually acting like Christians. Good for them. Apart from having a strange name, I'd never given them much thought. Question- are they the ones we should thank for this brother and sister business that Mormons have embraced and which there seems to be no end to? Yeah wikipe...

Quakerism

I went to a business conference in Philadelphia over the weekend. This is also where I served my mission and went to grad school. I visited the historical district and in particular the historic Quaker church and museum. Here is a link https://www.historicasmh.org/ . I was impressed with how this ch...

Re: Welcome to the Tuesday Podcast Club!

I wonder if RR suggested this because I have been struggling with being honest with my wife and kids about some things--such as drinking coffee, watching R rated movies and considering trying alcohol. Anyway, I listened to this podcast and it makes me wonder if some of us who have lost our faith do ...

Re: Lying

Not to take away from Alas's sound advice, but if you want to do something bad enough you will do it, and deal with the consequences. You want to try beer but don't want to do it behind her back. So you bring it up, she recoils. She asks you never to do it. You don't. Is your marriage really better...

Re: Lying

I 100% relate to your situation stuck. I lied to my wife about my beliefs, then she found in an email from someone else and it crushed her. I lied to my wife by not telling her that I drink coffee until she confronted me about it and it crushed her. In my mind, the idea of telling her about those t...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?

I agree with RR, that feminist issues make more women leave than historical issues. So, get a copy of In Sacred Loneliness, and leave it lying around. The Ghost of Polygamy is another. Bring up the issues. Get on Exponent II if you need information. Take her to see the Barbie movie, and discuss how...

Re: Lying

I think it depends on your TBM spouse. After I had broke the news to my DW that I was struggling and the dust settled from that cogdis, months later I disclosed to my DW that I was having a beer with friends at lunch once in a while. That caused her more cogdis and she told me she didn't want to kn...

Re: Lying

[putting on my counseling hat] your situation may be different, but what the marriage experts recommend is to talk it over with your spouse rather than do something behind their back. The conversation might go something like, “what would you think if I tried an alcoholic drink when we go out to din...

Re: Lying

Thought? Suggestions? You could always introduce your wife to Carefully Worded Denials™. I mean, if that sort of lying is OK for Joseph Smith, and you follow Joe's example, everything will be fine, eh? DISCLAIMER: The above sarcastic sentence is NOT good relationship advice. In fact it is REALLY BA...

Lying

Recently met up with an exmo friend and he suggested reading Lying by Sam Harris. He made some interesting points like it's best to avoid lying and I suppose cheating (adultery) to preserve your marriage and the marriage of the other person involved. It's sort of like following the golden rule when ...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?

Being a victim is real. Being hurt is real. No question. And a lot happened to make people not pay attention to the real stuff because of distractions. I've been listening to the Mormon Stories podcast on Joseph Smith and human/sex trafficking. There were probably a lot of victims in that and also ...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?

I don’t think most women leave based on evidence or doctrinal reasons. Or even historical reasons. However, emotional pain is just as relevant as any of those. What causes emotional pain within the church? Patriarchy!! Point out to your wife this overlooked observation. If all of the WOMEN were to ...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?

I like this post, liked reading all of your posts as well. One of these days the church will wake up, realize that coffee's not like snorting coke off a Las Vegas whore's hind end (liked that one) and is harmless. As one who's pulled a cork or two over the years, not to access, and drank plenty of ...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?

You've mentioned morality shifting, and it should when your foundational beliefs shift. But ideally you will be getting more moral, or at least you will be more authentically moral. Morality in the church is following the rules given by the church. That's a very shallow version of morality, and it ...

Re: How do you get your spouse to see that people can still be good after leaving the church?

- Started getting dw and the kids out into nature more, trying to use some weekends to steal them away from church for more fulfilling activities - About a year later dw and her kids found their own way out, happy wife happy life! In summary, my method was to live my life with no more devils or ang...
