Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
It's so nice to be mostly out of the church. All my siblings are out, but wife's siblings are all in so it makes it tough on her. Also, I still feel the pressure to stand in circles whenever wife's family has ordinance things. I try to avoid them when possible. That's why I think it would be good i...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
This is the child's event, not the parents. Do what it takes to serve the child's interest, even down to skipping baptism if so chosen. D&C 68 42 "For all men must repent and be baptized, and not only men, but women, and children who have arrived at the years of accountability." D&C 18 25 "And agai...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
Something of note that hasn't been mentioned: Baptism is an Aaronic Priesthood ordinance. Any zit-faced 16-year-old MORmON has the "power" to baptize. ( Nothing against zit-faced 16-year-olds - that was me at that age, AND I was a red-head! ) Just a little something to keep in the back pock...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
This is the child's event, not the parents. Do what it takes to serve the child's interest, even down to skipping baptism if so chosen. As to your part, if baptism is chosen, do what the church says you can as a non-believer. If that's nothing, then there's the answer. If that changes your child's ...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
Great responses wtfluff and RR! It seems the consensus is focus on the child and treat it as a tradition. This makes sense and seems to be the most peaceful route to go. My sticking point was do I believe Jesus is our savior? I don't think so, so maybe that's going to be a problem. But if I don't em...

Re: How to respond to believing spouse?
Thanks for all of the wonderful responses! You guys are awesome! I think I may need to be honest on this one and so it may come down to me not being able to baptize my son. However, I think my father in law that he likes would do it or my dad. And it would give me a good opportunity to speak with hi...

How to respond to believing spouse?
For those of us in mixed faith marriages-- How do you respond to your believing spouse especially when it comes to deciding whether to baptize your child as an unbeliever? I spoke with my bishop not too long ago about baptizing my son in a few months. My wife of course wants me to do so. She thinks ...

Red, ditto to the above. You have been an awesome contributor to this board and we will miss you. Hopefully you can check in frequently. Glad to hear your wife has seen the "light". I will have to listen to more of that podcast and see if it might interest my wife who is still 110% in

Re: Since we don’t have moderators
Thanks Alas for bringing this topic to our attention. I have heard this before but it's good to get a reminder and especially from someone who has had a lot of experience with it. In our last "talk" I told her that I don't think I could believe in the church again because there were too many issues ...

Hey Mayan, I don't think Moksha was saying that all saints are anti-lgbt. I think he was just poking fun at the church because of what Angel listed and I would add the musket speech given by Holland. Can't we all just get along? Namaste

Re: Replacing the New Order Mormon
I was active on NOM for a long, long time - under a different username for many years, and then after doxxing myself like an idiot one Halloween unmasking, in 2016 had to switch to my present username. When I first joined NOM, the "middle way" really was the ethos. I was perhaps not as patient with...

Re: The most correct book....
Recently my mom wanted me to listen to the following podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rECiIc5Ctak. You will probably cringe alot throughout like I did if you listen to it. I told my mom that I would listen to that if she would listen to one of the Mormon stories episodes with Mike on the bom...

Re: Went to church today (Dec 24th) and …
I attended also. I was grateful it was only one hour. My son joined the combined primary and choir number that they did. One guy was asked to bear his testimony and it was the traditional "I know the church is true--blar blar blar". It's kind of interesting. I haven't attended EQ for a long time. So...

Re: Mormon Missions ARE Human Trafficking
I also think missionaries get really good at finding the miracles, or learning how to confirm biases and exaggerate the feelings and promptings they get, while others who are certainly no less spiritual think they are doing something wrong when they're just not getting those same miracles and posit...

Re: Garments always hanging out and it drives me nuts
Yeah, I bought the brief style for shorts but they're too tight. The boxer style's waistband is too tight also. The top is too hot during the day so I usually ditch it when I get to work. I agree with RR. It would be better in bed without them ;) Maybe that could be another marketing slogan--multipl...
