If you were to announce in the foyer that you do not believe in the divinity of Church Authorities, I suspect you would get called on the carpet for it and some punishment process would commence.
Yep, that's worse than cursing God.

No, you don't sound like a hypocrite at all. I guess I forgot for a moment how difficult it can be to transition. I had feelings similar to your's just last year. I get it. I was trying to cheer you on, but I understand it's not that simple.

Re: Don't think I can go back to church after today

Hold on a gosh dang minute. Are you really saying you might feel guilty? We're talking about skipping out on an organization that teaches people to pay them before buying food for children and refuses to disclose how they use the money. Sunday School left you "boiling with anger and full of sorrow."...

Re: What can you openly not believe in?

I think the key is the way you express your disbelief. Rather than saying, "I don't believe polygamy was of God," you might say, "I have a hard time believing polygamy was inspired."

Re: Don't think I can go back to church after today

It totally sucks going through this phase. It really is “heart crushing.” I’m glad you have the support of Korihor at this time. My wife mocked and denigraded me for my unbelief and we are beginning the divorce process. Here are some things I noticed from your post: -church was so rough today -I hav...

The placebo effect essentially explains how people get a testimony.

Re: Do people really get divorced over the church

For me, the church is the "final straw" and "a big straw" like Mad Jax said. Divorce is upcoming.

This has all sorts of sad stories:

Re: Praise to the Man

The Primary program was yesterday. The kids sang only the first and third verses of Praise to the Man. Maybe the Primary leaders were aware enough to not have them sing about Joseph's blood. Haha!

Re: What was God commanding Martin Harris NOT to reveal in this revelation?

So, should I believe the Book of Mormon or the D&C? What a silly question. You believe both, but not at the same time. Everything in Mormonism is a multiple choice question and most of the answers can be construed to be true in isolation from each other, and if properly suspended in a jar of apolog...

Faith is a great trick to get people to follow a religion. It follows the Law of Attraction.

Re: What was God commanding Martin Harris NOT to reveal in this revelation?

D&C 19:4-12 just doesn't make sense! There is more written that just endless torment and eternal damnation . Nephi said: And there is a place prepared, yea, even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and the devil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell i...

I was once a "Losty" and I liked Desmond Hume, but I don't remember why I chose him a few years ago on the StayLDS forum. There was a reason. Oh, well.

My Story - I Need This Community

I reckon this is my new online community. I have spent a lot of time at StayLDS, but I don't fit in so well there anymore. Here's my story. Early Life I was born and raised in Utah. I am now in the mid-thirties. We went to church as a family but I became a rebellious teenager. I started smoking pot ...

Re: Praise to the Man

If you present this to the Primary president I expect one of two reactions. The most likely is a blank "deer in the headlights" look that states that they are simply not going to deal with your concern because it takes on a system that she loves. The other possible reaction is an angry, fundamental...

Re: Praise to the Man

Oh, I forgot to say something. I have seriously been thinking about talking to the Primary President about this. I want to say, "Hey, did you know that song refers to the Oath of Vengeance? What do you think of that? Should our kids be singing that?" Doing that would really rock the boat, though. Th...

shadow, do you know what verses were sang? My little girl is going to sing that song in the Primary Program on Sunday. I will be more more upset if they sing the second or fourth verse. I haven't liked this song for years, and I recently discovered it's worse than I thought. Brett D. Dowdle wrote th...

Re: The "D" Word

Well, some "worthy priesthood holders" are total jerks. My wife told me that when she was looking for a husband, she wanted a "worthy priesthood holder" more than anything (of course, I feel lousy now). I reminded her that her dad is super awesome and he didn't give blessings and stuff when she was ...
