Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 22

I'd like to see the Nephite who could catch a Bighorn lamb. Especially in the areas where they live. Hahaa! Well, I’m sure you’ve seen the Arnold Friberg paintings of Nephites. Certainly the athletic physiques he portrayed shows that if anybody could have caught a bighorn lamb, it would have...

Re: An integrity crisis?

Hey Græy, Please go easy on yourself. I remember teaching a high priest group lesson, and it was probably about the pioneers and/or other suffering this life can bring. I explained that I felt I'd led a privileged life to that point in time (probably didn't use the word "privilege" because I didn't ...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 22

Thanks Deac! That means a lot to me. I hope the Annotated BoM helps validate some of us and maybe even helps a few devout Mormons have a little better understanding of why their loved one or other acquaintance can no longer believe. I doubt many devout believers would change their mind about the BoM...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 21

Alma jr brags about how he has never accepted any money for his work in the gospel, and yet Joseph jr tried to make money off religion at every turn. In fact, it strikes me that Joseph learned nothing about being righteous from the BoM and followed zero of its teachings. This is a really good point...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 19

Nice lesson. How does the wordy Book of Mormon work with the concept that Joseph never actually looked at the BoM during “translation”? Thank you! I think your question is a great one. If the “translation” was not actually derived from and communicating the same things as the characters on plates f...

Re: Hey God, you there? I’ll send you an email.

Hope this isn’t too much of a downer, but this thread reminds me of the sorrow I felt when I admitted to myself I could no longer believe in God or even a god.

And, I often think of this video when I feel that grief now.

Which leaves me baffled as to why I can’t get a decent price for my signs and tokens. Maybe the COVID-19 crisis has upended the market? Yeah, that's hilarious that they make a big deal of selling them. Another revelation that didn't anticipate the internet. Tangent thought: In context of The Gospel...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 16

Just a note on the Holy Ghost. One may recall that Simon, the magician attempted to purchase the power to do miracles and bestow the Holy Ghost upon people when he saw Peter and John lay hands upon the previously baptized Samaritans. Peter said essentially, "Your money perish with you..." if you th...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 16

When I see how arrogant and dismissive some members of the church are toward other faith traditions and religious scholarship I just have to remind myself that they are just demonstrating the single most essential lesson you must learn to be a true Mormon. From inside the world view they are not be...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 15

Am I confusing Lehite records with the Martin Harris Lost pages book of Lehi? Are they the same or different? The list 116 pages were allegedly from the Book of Lehi or plates of Lehi, if memory serves. So, one could refer to the 116 list pages as Lehite records, but I was using “Lehite” in a more ...
