Re: House Church lessons

Ours has evolved quite a bit, but I am really happy with what it is right now. There are 3 of us: apostate me, TBM DW, and PIMO 16 year old daughter. We take turns picking the hymn/spiritual thought. _________________________________ Opening song and prayer. Sacrament (DW would get mad early on beca...

Re: DW Back To Church

So it finally happened. Our ward is supposed to go back August 2. TBM DW read the stipulations in an email the stake sent out and got really mad about it. They kept talking about how the Covid-19 coordinator (new calling evidently) had to record the name of the leader responsible for the meeting and...

Re: Opening Up Church Again

I'm not comfortable with the instructions for administering the sacrament. The aaronic priesthood should wash their hands and promise not to touch their faces, something they should have been doing all along. Then you just pass the stuff around as normal with everyone handling it. Local leaders are...

Re: What will church look like...after Covid-19

I think Nelson will use this to continue to remake the church like he wants it. He seems to really want to get rid of a lot of things, and with everything being cancelled because of Covid-19, the things he doesn't like just quietly won't come back. Whereas getting rid of certain traditions and belov...

To sum up my point, the leaders teach fake caring for people because they really don’t care for people, only the church as an institution.
Yup, exactly. The church only cares about you in the context of what you can do for it.

Re: Culture of Fake Friends

I don't blame this girl who contacted your DD too much. It's obvious there was a grown member behind her who was pushing this agenda. The adult leader and the churchs' "program" are really the ones to blame. Oh yeah, I don't blame the girl. She was totally put up to it. I just told my daughter that...

Culture of Fake Friends

My teenage daughter and I were riding around today and a girl from the ward started texting her. This girl had never really paid attention to or had much to do with my daughter, and all of a sudden, she's asking about how she's doing and all. DD was surprised and kind of happy this girl was thinking...

Re: What did Brigham know about the 1st Vision?

So if he knew about it, I wonder if Brigham believed it was Adam and Jesus that appeared to JS or Elohim and Jesus? From what I have read, the first vision didn't really play into the main narrative of the church until much later. I read somewhere that the reason it is called the "first vision" was ...

Re: Sunday Morning NOMference!!

DW is so worried I am going to poison our daughter's mind about the church. Thank you Rusty and company for doing that for me! Seriously, thank you. You should have seen her face during the hosanna shout. Complete WTF is this?! So weird and cringey for her. In addition to a conference full of boring...

Re: Annual Statistical Report* Released

That’s boundary shenanigans. My stake took 6 wards and made 7 last year with no boundary changes. Just took 500 people per ward and made it 400 to create a new ward. Similar thing here. We have a Stake President that's all about climbing the church leadership ladder. In the past couple of years the...

Re: It's not even wrong

I was thinking about this today... why is obedience the skill we are supposed to learn in order to be exalted? This life is supposed to be the training ground for exaltation; sort of godhood basic training. Wouldn't love or empathy be a better basic skill to learn to be an exalted human that creates...

Re: Does your spouse know you post on NOM?

I don't tell her, but I don't "not tell her". If I mention something I read here I just say "I read on the internet that..." and she never asks for specifics. I've told her about my disaffection in general several times, and then the next day she goes on and interacts with me like it never happened....

Re: Question about conference

The only thing I remember about GBH concerning polygamy was the Larry King Live interview where he said polygamy wasn't doctrinal. He's taken some heat over that one, because, you know, it was and is doctrinal and for many years was pretty much the defining characteristic of mormonism. He often cite...

Re: What did you really learn from the temple ceremony?

I used to wonder what all of the signs meant. I got my endowments post-1990, so I never knew about the penalties. I used to make up things in my mind thinking it was inspiration about what they meant... all kinds of weird stuff. Later I was quite distraught to learn I was basically pantomiming the g...

Re: Kwaku the Deceiver

Wow, I think Kwaku was a little butt-hurt there.. I was trying to follow his rebuttal, but it was less than clear and it was just miserable to watch with all of the personal attacks sprinkled in. I ultimately decided I had better things to do with my life than listen to an "internet comedian" try to...

Re: Elder Steven Snow: Most Members Couldn't Care Less

It’s hard for me to see it as anything but a tacit admission that they knowingly deceive the members. Yup, that's exactly what it is. Omission is deception. They know they don't have good answers, and once a person starts down the rabbit hole they end up in a much less faithful position. The best t...

Re: New youth program being defined

I think the things the youth will be picking their own goals are things like the YW have been doing now for a long time. They have a book with lots of suggestions for each YW’s value, or they can name one they would rather do. So, under “Devine worth” the girls have a long list of suggested project...
