Re: The challenges of attending church

I think coping mechanisms are different for different personalities, so take this with a grain of salt. I rather enjoy the parting of the Red Sea effect as I walk down the halls, and watch some of my ward members gird up their loins and attempt to talk to the apostate. While I recognize this is prob...

Speaking out about accepting callings

I don't think you were out of line at all, just very thoughtful about your response. We had the same discussion a few months back, when it was mentioned by a zealous EQ member that we should never reject callings as they were from the Lord. I was going to speak up, but a former bishop beat me to it,...

Re: A note from Kishkumen. (His daughter is sick)

What a horrible, horrible thing Kish's family is going through. I have never heard of this disease, and after doing some reading I wouldn't wish this experience on anybody. Wishing them nothing but the best.

Great report, Anon. And I agree, this is definitely progress - and I think it's extremely important to let the other partner know what your future plans are, and sketch it out for him like that. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone who has seen a faith crisis up close, like a spouse, can...

Re: Fear as motivating conservative values

Can I be the devil's advocate for a minute? I'm as left as they come, bordering on democratic socialist (I'm Canadian, after all) and I voted for the Green party in the last federal election held a couple of weeks ago. So you know, I have some investment on this idea that conservatives are into fear...

Re: Lunch with my apostate Dad

Wow. That was...interesting. That's unfortunate, and I'm sorry it's making things awkward with your Dad. I've given up trying to figure out why people do the things they do - I've counselled people to slow down their apostasy because the TBM family can't cope, but "poisoning your family" is a very l...

Re: Accessing NOM at church?

So this is the message I got today when I tried to get NOM through LDS Access.

Could it be that I'm looking at it too much, and they caught on?

Re: Accessing NOM at church?

NOM access used to be my lifeline during bishopric meeting. I don't have time to open NOM during the church block anymore, at least not without risking death glares from DW during sacrament meeting. I'll try to give it a shot one of these days though. I'm constantly on my phone during HC meetings, ...

Re: I'm going to Hell !

That's not a nice thing to wake up to, now, is it? Sorry this happened to you. Here's my thing. Sis M has said the same thing, and so I say, that's interesting. Which prophet has told me I'm going to hell because I don't believe? Where does it say that if I don't believe every word coming out of the...

Re: Accessing NOM at church?

This is particularly interesting to me since I control the website and domain name. I will do some checking and will set up some additional ways to access NOM if needed. This is a cat and mouse game that they will not enjoy playing. For those of us stuck every Sunday, your efforts are much apprecia...

Accessing NOM at church?

Maybe it was just today, but this was the first week I couldn't access NOM on the church's wifi. Have the SCMC finally shut us down?

Good thing I have a good data plan, or church would've sucked extra hard today.

Anybody else have this problem?

Re: Does your spouse know you post on NOM?

We have a “don’t ask don’t tell” policy in regards to my online anti-Mormon activities. Yep. That's about it! Sis M knows I post here, doesn't like it, and is convinced ya'll are leading me carefully down to hell. If she actually takes the time to read what I post, I'm sure she'll know different.

Re: I choose love, full stop.

So by your standards the church can't teach anything because no matter what they teach someone is going to be affected negatively. Can't teach the Word of Wisdom because some people really struggle with chemical/alcohol addiction like I do. Can't teach about the law of chastity because some people ...

Re: New TR question

Thanks for doing putting this in detail, jfro18. Clarified it for me, and I think you're absolutely correct about the control part. Once you start prying into my personal thoughts, we have some problems. My next TR interview is going to be even more interesting than I first thought.

Re: NOMference Fall 2019 Sunday Afternoon

I had to work, and when I was home I tried to be good and not comment, but my thanks Mopag and graey for putting all of this together. It kept my sanity when I had to listen to nonsense, of which there was copious amounts. So even if people can't comment, these posts are wonderful - sneaking off to ...

Re: Elder Oaks Defines "Gender" for Us - In His Usual Bigoted Way

Wait a minute - didn't Oaks last conference tell me not to listen to non-experts on important matters? Why the hell would I listen to a lawyer spout nonsense about biology when he clearly hasn't read any of the science? In all the literature I've read, intersex individuals make up between 1.7 and 3%...

Re: WOMEN can now be a witness to baptisms!

I think it's great. The curious thing to me is that women are never specifically mentioned. Children are, but not women. I mean, that's really the story here, right? 1-Any member holding a current temple recommend, including a limited-use recommend, may serve as a witness to a proxy baptism. 2-Any ...

Re: WOMEN can now be a witness to baptisms!

I don't think this will cause much cogdis to anyone who isn't already questioning... and it doesn't appear they are calling it revelation (yet) so I think it's easily brushed off as the leaders recognizing women more... I am assuming DW will find this to be a happy change and it will keep her retre...
