Great article.
Jana nails it, as per usual.

Re: LDS fireside this Sunday on "Navigating Doubts"

I have to admit, I like Renlund's boat analogy better than I do Ballard's "Good Ship Zion."

At least Renlund's version of the boat illustrates how unbelievably crappy it is to be forced to board this leaking tub. I can get on board that analogy.

Re: RFM: missing scrolls & catalyst theories

Just finished listening to both parts, some great stuff. I sure hope it summarizes the Vogel videos, so I don't have to spend the time watching them! They seem interesting, I just have a life outside of Mormonism. On a side note, it's taken me a while to appreciate Vogel's work. I read his Religious...

Re: Need Advice - Potential Visit from a Seventy

“We are all just regular imperfect people” is my favorite response to get. They are admitting that they are nothing special without realizing it. It is telling that when they are backed into a corner, they argue that they are just normal everyday folk instead of chosen prophets of the lard. Which i...

Re: Looks like I'll be doing my "Home Study" after all...

We had a chat about it, and I told the missus that I will take one lesson a month, and it will be from the essays. That caused some consternation, as it wasn't what we were SUPPOSED to be doing, according to Come Follow Me. I told her that it was pretty reasonable for me to only take one lesson a mo...

Re: Still doing it wrong

So sorry... you've provided so much help on these boards so I hate to see when you're on the bad end of a conversation in a mixed faith marriage. You've helped me on a number of occasions in my short-ish time here so seeing you still dealing with this really hits home. I feel the same way, alas. So...

Like all the others, I just have empathy for your situation. That IS a lot to unpack, and I'm so glad you're seeing a therapist for some help in trying to get through it all.

Good luck, achilles!

Great report, SI. Just goes to show that there are no answers, they have none, and will just gaslight anyone who dares to question. It's crazy.

Just a quick pop in to update...the meeting is on.

I am not excited about it. I am gathering my thoughts and preparing.

I will let you all know how it goes.
Good luck with that - I'll look forward to hearing how this meeting changed your life and when you're going back to church. 🙄

It's all problematic. Lots of pain. It really is. I'm glad my primary girls and DD (if she choses to go) won't be subjected to all that sexist bullsh!t. But damn...the damage that did to so many women. FMH has a whole sereis on this: http://www.feministmormonhousewives.org/category/temple/when-the-...

Re: The long rumored temple changes are happening now?

As the resident active guy, we had a temple trip planned last night as a family, and I can confirm the rumours. At least about the endowment session. Of course, I had to hide why I was so excited to go to the temple after browsing the interwebs, but the reaction from Sis M and the females in our pa...

Re: Let Go of My Ego

I had a pious friend say that to me. Genuinely surprised I asked her to name what she’d read. She asked me to tell her my list and she’d confirm as I listed them out. Turns out she hadn’t read anything I’d read nor the essays or their source material. Which I had done. But she insisted that a lot o...

Re: What do you do with a problem like Gina?

I was quite shocked, surprised and elated that this was the outcome for Gina on a general level - however, as an avid reader of her blog, the NZ church does seem rather different, as it is on the periphery. She's been extremely outspoken to a Bill Reel level of criticism at points in her faith journ...

Re: Wish me luck today :)

I have suggested visiting a therapist to my wife and she flat out said she was worried the therapist would justify my position or side with me. Surprising honesty. That's the challenge for me too - I don't want anything to do with LDS Family Services, and the missus doesn't want a "secular" therapi...

Re: Have any GA's talked about a faith/truth crisis?

The only one I can remember was Brent Neilson in 2015, about the "prodigal" and how his sister fell away from the church: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/04/waiting-for-the-prodigal?lang=eng But it was the standard party line that "she was lost, and here's how we brought her back," not e...

Hilarious stuff, ya'll. The two pills are better than acid! If it didn't have the devil's tongue of profanity attached to it, I'd make it the wallpaper of my phone for all the fam to see.

I love this place, and how we can make fun of ourselves.

Re: Nelson's Christmas devotional talk was disgusting

Yep, we had it on in our house - I was browsing sports news while it was on. I did catch that segment with the poor kid, and just shook my head. Sister M caught me and asked what it was for, and I wisely declined to discuss it. But that's the point - maybe she wanted to meet the prophet of Jesus's c...

Who brought the potato chips to snack on during the council? Man, that would be me. :D Horrible audio, but thanks for trying to put a transcript together, consiglieri. That was a big help. And not only did Bill aquit himself well, but I'm sure one or two shelves were creaking that day - including th...
