Re: We’re back! Thanks Captain Salty!

My thanks as well. I've been frantically reading my old posts just to mentally have a view of my faith crisis journey since it came back, and wow what a ride. Thanks to all for their work in the ongoing restoration of NOM.

Re: Setting & maintaining a temple boundary

She is now pushing to attend the Temple regularly and I don't want too. I find it to cultish weird & disturbing. I'm wanting to set a firm boundary to not go. She gets all upset threatens divorce etc. I'm not sure how her wanting to go to the temple equates to YOU having to go. Never quite understo...

Re: NOMference Sunday afternoon Fall 2023

I'll have to read NOMference recaps this week to see how bad this talk rated with the others. Thanks again for taking it for the team, Pres. Mopag!

Re: NOMference Sunday afternoon Fall 2023

I have voluntarily not watched all weekend, but Sis M wanted me to watch this last one by Nelson, so I did. This is awful, and not good for our marriage. Going back to ignoring it. Was the rest of the weekend this bad?

Re: Slowly fading away? The future of NOM?

Been pretty busy with a lot of things, (a story for another day) and I've read many of these responses, and just to add my two cents. I still love this place. I owe all of you so much for your wisdom and advice in helping me navigate a marriage after my faith crisis, all the while my lovely spouse i...

Re: So Many podcasts, so little time.

Clearly Mormonism is getting ever so farther in my rearview mirror, in that I simply haven't listened to Mormon themed podcasts for a long while. The ones I do keep up with are the above mentioned LDS Discussions ones - look, I know how the story plays out at this point, but the timeline format play...

Re: NOMference Sunday Afternoon Spring 2023!!

I gotta dock Corbitt if no one else has. He's the one that some time ago gave a talk (not sure where) where he said that it was wrong to press church leaders for change. Corbitt, the guy that wouldn't even have the PH if people in the past didn't press church leaders for change. He reiterated that ...

Re: NOMference Sunday Afternoon Spring 2023!!

I just caught the Basset talk, and tuned in to Corbett. That Jesus had to die to forgive our sins has been a shelf item for years for me. To validate my concern is at least +20, but his explanation is -10.

But to bring it up period is woth +10 total.

Re: NOMference Sunday Morning Spring 2023!!!

Finally caught one talk, and this one wasnt bad. I was rolling my eyeballs a bit, but it was the line about not getting peace at any price that earned a +25 from me. It was a standard submissive nonsense word salad that I hate about talks like this until he said that. I agree, this is one of Rusty's...

Re: NOMference Eve Spring 2023!!

Best. President. Ever! Thanks Mopag for all you do. My extremely useful thoughts and prayers are with you for this year's NOMference. I am stuck elsewhere for this year, and my participation will reflect my increasing apathy for all things Mormon. So I will read the commentary with great delight, kn...

Great to see you come up for air, Bishop! You and your wife hang in there. Not too many of us having-to-hold-calling NOM's left, it's a unique form of self-flagellation that only a rare few can survive intact. I feel your pain, dude! Keep on truckin' and keep blessing the lives of your ward members!

Re: Is it possible to get your donation history from the church?

So I found this interesting, so I went on my donations page to take a look. It looks like what is disappearing is your official tax receipt - not the actual record of your donations, that seems to be intact, at least in a ten year interval. I was able to go back as far 2013 and have a look. Thanks a...

Re: Church paying $5 Million SEC fine

I was wondering what Sam Brunson, the usual financial apologist for the church was going to say about this, and I must say I'm impressed: https://bycommonconsent.com/2023/02/21/the-church-the-investment-advisor-and-the-sec/#more-120243 Here's the lines that will make things for Dr. Brunson very inte...

Re: Church paying $5 Million SEC fine

Here's the church's response: https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/church-issues-statement-on-sec-settlement TLDR: We relied on legal counsel, regret the mistakes we made, and the matter is closed. "The matter is closed?!!" Do these people still have no idea how the internet works? It's...

Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?

Jana Reiss has an article up about the temple changes, and this seems to be in line with the things I've heard: https://religionnews.com/2023/02/10/more-jesus-less-touching-14-changes-to-the-mormon-temple-endowment-ceremony/ I will go soon, and just clarify if Jana's sources are accurate. It's a lit...

Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?

I haven't been yet, had a busy week and next week will be worse, but sometime in the next month I will go, and then return and report. I have heard a couple of things, though, through the grapevine of people who have been to a session. One is that the session is now about 12-15 minutes longer than i...

Re: New alligations against Ensign Peak Advisors

I read that article too, and I'm with y'all that I don't think it will go anywhere either. It doesn't seem that lying about anything will get you much of a punishment anywhere anymore, and I would think the church has enough political and financial clout that they will get away with it. Old man yell...

Re: A quick update.

I fear the in laws who are church broke, two time temple attending temple workers who stay a second session just to be participants after their “worker shift” is over are planning an intervention. We have a niece getting married in March so so Ryder is struggling with the need to maintain a recomme...
