Re: LDS mom makes $37k a month in secret career

I just read about it today. I would think she’s been paying it since they gave her a chance to leave her business behind in order to stay a member in good standing. I would think someone else would be kicked to the curb right away

Re: Two kinds of minds?

What does it mean to choose to believe? May be cliché but what about Santa? What does it mean to choose to believe in Santa as an adult? Does believing mean you think there's a literal magic man that lives close to the north pole that distributes presents to people on the night of Christmas Eve and...

Re: Forced Turning Point

I am so sorry this is causing so much anguish. I would second everything that Linked said and add to make sure you’re drinking water and eating throughout the day as you sound exhausted after a 5-hour deep conversation with DW and very little sleep. Would you consider canceling and rescheduling this...

Re: Forced Turning Point

Can you just botch the interview? I understand you don’t want the let the SP in on how you really feel so just don’t tell him anything about that. You might know him and have an idea what to say to make yourself an undesirable candidate. Just like you would if you were interviewing for a job you’re ...

Re: mocha latte for Neal

I think someone's cutting onions . . .you all are the best. It's been six years but you know what -- grief doesn't care how long it's been. There are a lot of good times and days are mostly good, but there are still moments where I can barely stand under the weight of it. Two of Neal's siblings are...

They really need to reframe wearing a mask in terms of preserving freedom. It's not that hard: if we wear them, we don't have to limit freedom in more intrusive ways.
Excellent point. I hope my fluffy brain can retain it.
Try this for short:

Mask up to open up (businesses, schools, etc.)

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

Some somewhat disheartening news: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52446965 TL;DR: Imperial College, London study of recovered patients finds that antibodies don't stick around long enough for permanent or even semi-permanent immunity. They figure 6 months to a year of immunity, like the immunity ...

Re: Denial

This reminded me of a book. I haven’t read it, just heard of it. The title was: Too good to leave, too bad to stay Second, I know I had a lot of things besides pure cowardice that kept me from seeing the truth about the church. I was busy surviving. There was good in the church. I needed something f...

Re: What’s the future of anti-Mormonism look like?

Apathy for sure. I don’t think the newer generations will fight, they’ll just walk away. Especially since the issues are becoming more and more well known so no reason to “shout from the rooftops “ as the ones that are staying won’t care to hear, either because they’re staying for social reasons or ...

Would she read the essays? They are included with all the other material that she probably/possibly regularly uses on the official website. Would she doubt those were true?

Sounds intriguing, Fifi, I should add the book to my list, thank you for the recommendation! I don’t listen to podcasts but I am interested in what you mentioned here. Is there a transcript or would you be able to summarize what she says about engaging believers? I listened to this -- thank you for ...

Azflyer, does your family know that you have cut down your attendance? If so, what have they said about it? Have they noticed the change in your clothing, eating or drinking habits? Maybe they know everything that they are willing to know at this time if they know that you’ve attended only 10% of th...

Re: Emma - Victim or Co-Conspirator?

Isn't it all just different shade of gray? Sometimes in these situations I am reminded of what human beings do to their thinking in order to survive or to protect themselves or their families, especially children, including the Stockholm syndrome or the notorious kapos of the WWII camps. Many of you...

I was going to say, it seems that the speaker "struggles" with labels and not the people he was referring to.

I have a few gay friends. I don't know that any of them struggle with the attraction. They struggle with bigots treating them badly.
