Re: Is forgiveness required?
Forgiveness is a nebulous term. I think a lot of people like to say it is required, because they are Christian and Jesus said it is required. Outside of that, I don't see why it would be. You want to let go of toxic anger for your own mental health and all that for sure. Sometimes that means coming ...

Re: Did Natasha Helfer-Parker get Exed?
I think there may have been an effort to bring endowed women back under bishopric courts. I personally know of a local endowed woman who cheated on her husband and that was handled by a bishopric court. I heard the story directly from her so I trust its accuracy. This was a few years ago. I just don ...

Re: Forced Turning Point
I have a hard time imagining, as an unbeliever, being a bishop. When I lost my faith, one of the first feelings that washed over me was a profound sense of relief that I would never have to be a bishop. So beetbox's words ring true to me. All I can think is that you and I must be pretty different ...

Re: Mormonism my way ?
I was attending in jeans and colorful short-sleeved button-up shirts up until the Covid shutdown. I think it definitely sends the message that you aren't a company man, but nobody ever said anything to me. I was resigned and attending sacrament meeting with my wife, though. Zealous members might try ...

Re: Doubters are lazy learners!!!!!
I've read thousands of pages of books on church history. If that's what a lazy learner is, I don't know what it could possibly look like to not be lazy, lol.

Re: The 2020 numbers
I have lost track of how many reddit posts I've seen where a pre-Covid TBM found themselves with time on their hands and unpacked their shelf during lockdown, and now they're out (and some resigned). I concur that Covid hit the church hard. My wife was pretty all-in until Covid. The way she ...

Re: The 2020 numbers
Well, if I know the church, and I do know the church, I know that these numbers are fudged in some way. The real question is: how fudged are they? My personal experience is that I know of far more resignations in my social circle this year than any other year since my disaffection in 2012. Covid ...

Re: Forced Turning Point
For whatever reason, the church seems extremely reluctant to release bishops early. This gives you power. As long as you steer clear of certain things, you can probably have wide latitude to run things as you see fit even if it is pretty different from the way things are typically run. If your SP ...

I predict that if you take all of the most interesting parts of all of the 10 hours and distil them into 10 minutes, it will still be a pretty damn boring 10 minutes.

Re: Ward Mission Leaders are annoying
The missionaries stopped by my house last night. It was a surreal experience listening to my wife explain that we'd all recently sent in our resignation letters. I'm so grateful I didn't have to listen to a message from them or something. Tender mercies. Of course, then they had to ask two or three ...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Oh, there was definitely something off with the beer. If it had been mine, I wouldn't have drunk it, but my wife didn't know any better. I've been known to get the spicy mango margarita from one of the other Mexican places here in town but this place doesn't have a bar and we were just picking up ...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Fetchface, tell us more of the continuing after-effects. Well, we had a glass of wine with dinner the other night and my wife commented that she didn't really feel much different other than a warm feeling in her cheeks and ears. I told her that the biggest surprise for me when I had my first drink ...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Wow! :o Yeah, maybe COVID helped you out of the Church. I think it was instrumental in allowing time for reflection. It may have happened anyway but the timeline would probably have been slower. My wife told me that over the past year she has been trying life out without various aspects of the ...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Thanks, guys! Right now she seems pretty motivated to make this official. She just sent in the family resignation letter! It's going to be really kind of weird to not have the church hanging over my life in any real way. My only exposure will be when I visit my parents, I guess? It really seems like ...

Re: Wife dropped a bomb on me
Well, the conversation with the kids went well. None of them seem at all bothered that we are all resigning. I think they'll miss activities with the others but other social groups can be found... Is quitmormon too much of a bother these days? Should we just send the resignation letters straight to ...

Wife dropped a bomb on me
Out of the blue last night, she says to me that she is done with the church. Like wants to resign and everything, and wants the kids names removed as well. I had to say that we need to slow down just a bit and talk this out with the kids (4 teens). While none of them is super enthusiastic about ...
