Re: Preference Falsification

As I recall, Joseph Smith ingrained this tactic in Mormon culture by threatening the women he approached with the destruction of their reputation if they should refuse his advances and not remain silent about it.

A fine tool every honest prophet of God should keep at his disposal.

Re: The big lie

Holland would say that it is true that God can cure all problems, but that doesn't mean that he will cure all problems. My point exactly. This is what he SHOULD have said but he didn't. Church membership and it's so-called priesthood doesn't cure alcoholism, drug addiction, cancer, pedophilia, spou...

The big lie

So I read this excerpt from a talk by Elder Holland. He's going on about how much he is giving for the church and that members should be like him. Willing to give their lives for the church and believing in the Savior. All good and well except for coming across as a bit of a braggart. But then he th...

I use to shoot archery in competition. One arrow out of six in the bullseye did not get me anything. To win they all had to hit the bullseye. Anything kess was failure.

Re: Tithing slips in the mail? Is this normal?

This sounds like some thoughtless ignoramus in the Bishopric (or clerk following orders) trying to give ward members an easier way to get their blessings by paying their tithing. How considerate.

And yes, I'm pretty sure it's a federal offense to use a mailbox for other than official uses.

Re: Expect No Good Apologies

Unfortunately, DW has taken this practice to heart and refuses to apologize for anything in life ever. She has even quoted Oaks' "the church does not seek or give apologies" statement when we talked about it once. Doesn't she realize that the church is a "do as I say, not as I do" kind of organizat...

Re: Letters to the Slackers

Yep....this is the "We're going to aggravate you into full activity" method Mormons use to offload their guilt about missionary work. It reminds me of the pre-pandemic time our ward decided they were going to contact EVERY member on the ward roster. Even the ones who had requested "no contact" just ...

Re: Does Russell Nelson have the guts?

And therefore may not be concerned about political turmoil because he would consider it a sign that the end is getting near. If fact, the worse things get the more validated 2nd Coming watchers feel in their end times expectations. Unless it effected the markets to a point where his $140 billion va...

Re: Does Russell Nelson have the guts?

As much as Nelson has mentioned the 2nd Coming and the gathering of Israel lately I would have to say that he buys into much of what the right uses to keep themselves believing. He won't offend them because he's actually with them, except for a few stray cows who want to usurp his power. Whoever mad...

I'm not sure I would listen to this video if not for the extensive listing of all of Mr. Nelson's recommending and professional credentials..... I mean what if they had said he was just a plain and simple plowboy trying to support his indigent family who never did a bad thing in his life and ...

Re: New to the website

I’m feeling less enthusiastic about the church, though wholeheartedly still faithful to Christ and believing in the church of its core doctrines of the gospel. I’m just looking for a community that might help me feel supported within the church. My wife and I do not want to leave, but we don’t see ...

Re: Church Growth in Times of Pandemic

I'm offended by church members and leaders always assuming you are offended, rather than acknowledging that you are merely thinking critically. Or acknowledging that you might actually have a reasonable point for questioning....instead they assume that you have hastily (and stupidly) jumped to the ...

You didn't mention Montana..... If the stats I'm looking at are correct it's better than utah at .01% 🤔 So now we know where God's truly favored country lies. And it isn't Utah.... 8-) According to the data I downloaded as of Oct 22, Montana had a mortality rate of 1.10% (276 deaths after 25,004 in...

Re: The Best Two Years?

Double edged sword for me. I was starved by the lack of in depth interaction between missionaries. It just seemed really shallow. Very few guys I would consider people I would want to be friends with. Mostly they just seemed to be a lot of immature kids putting in their time. The salesman approach t...

Re: Worship the church rather than Christ

It must be "understood" that when church leadership speak of believing in Christ, they really mean an individual comes to Him or God only through the mediators at the top of the pyramid. It goes without saying. To think otherwise threatens the power structure of the church, a proposition which is un...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 38

I don't see the chicken thing as a problem. I think it was worthwhile to leave the ancient Nephites/Lamanites in the dark wondering what a chicken is/was because as we all know, the BofM was written for OUR DAY see. This is just further proof that the BoM is true. We are the ones who know what chick...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 37

I remember a FARMS explanation that the reason there is no evidence for these massive earthquakes is that they didn't change the topography in any way, they merely broke individual rocks and broke up the ground at the small scale level. This is only partially correct. The topography was actually ch...

Re: Why can't LDS folk have normal relations with others

The obligation felt by TBMs which is brought on by the full "buy in" of the temple endowment is extremely controlling. If a member doesn't try to introduce the church they're not fulfilling their temple obligation. Their "forever family" could be at risk. I'm sure I made some real mistakes with othe...

Re: Baptismal confirmation and priesthood

I think the church assumes the ancient Apostles were the only ones with priesthood authority to give the gift of the Holy Ghost and their authority was not accompanied by the "Aaronic" priesthood as an appendage as in today's church. The pseudopigraphical 3rd Nephi 18:37 kind of confirms this. "And ...
